Alright, Anthony Bailey,
worth a watch

Good Bye, Lenin! in Movies ·
The movie is alright,
though it makes it look like East Germany was some kind of utopia.
🙄
A naked guy is always a win in my book.
😬

And... I had no idea Americans could be that cold—at least, that’s how it comes across in the film.
That reunion with the father, someone they hadn't seen since they were kids, felt incredibly detached. It felt weird to me—I was practically in tears, yet these people acted like nothing happened.
😳
nimblemarlin17 said:I watched it last night. It wasn't half bad. Actually pretty fun.

Absolute garbage. Boring.

Extremely informative.
😳

What should I do if I think I may have toxoplasmosis?

If you suspect that you may have toxoplasmosis, talk to your healthcare provider. Your doctor might order various types of blood tests specifically for toxoplasmosis. These results help them figure out if you actually have a Toxoplasma infection and if it’s a recent, acute case.

I wonder if doctors here even run these kinds of tests, or if they aren't even aware of this parasite.
🙄

Even though it says the symptoms—swollen lymph nodes and a weakened immune system—usually just pass after a while.

All in all, nothing to lose sleep over.
😳
Frank Cooper3 said:You breathe in dust containing bacteria in an oocyst state. Or you get it straight from a cat if you touch its waste and then accidentally put your hand in your mouth. Look, I'm not suggesting you go digging through cat crap with your bare hands 😉 but you could be cleaning a litter box, get some contaminated filth on you, then pet the cat and end up ingesting it. There are other ways too, like eating raw meat, etc...

😲
I really should have kept my mouth shut.

It’s simple. There is just no such thing as safe Open Water—not with anything out there. Period. What’s dangerous is dangerous.😁 😁

Ed Wood said:What really gets under my skin is the production value. It’s well below anything I consider tolerable.
That drags everything else down with it, making the whole thing feel amateurish.
And let's be honest, the work isn't even remotely revolutionary, so the final verdict is simple: it's barely watchable.

To me, it feels almost like an amateur production anyway—there isn't some massive Hollywood studio backing it up—
but the movie aimed for realism, and they actually nailed that part.

The situation the characters find themselves in is unwatchable; the film is genuinely uncomfortable... but that’s just proof that it was well-made.
Frank Cooper3 said:Look, everyone’s known about 🙂 toxoplasmosis 🙂 for ages. Just stay away from cats. 🙂

Alright, fine.
😁

But... I don't get it. How does that parasite actually jump to humans?
Just by touching a cat? Or maybe through their saliva if they lick you?
😕
shadowfalcon33 said:It’s called Toxoplasma gondii.

But honestly, nothing out of the ordinary there. Plenty of different life forms can parasitize a brain. 😉

😲 😲 😲
I knew it!

And they definitely mess with your emotions!
Man, what a waste that I didn't finish medical school. I would have loved to dive into this research—could've been a hell of a career.
😳

...just a few minutes...

Yeah, I was abused. Eight long years of it. The fallout is permanent and massive—constant anxiety, being hooked on meds, and building this mental wall where I convinced myself every girl is out of my league. I blew so many chances because of it. To this day, I haven't even had a first kiss.

It’s been two years now. I still see that piece of trash hanging around the neighborhood. They'll get what's coming to them eventually...

My situation was different. At my first job, I dealt with someone just like that. The worst part? A few years after I quit, I ran into him and actually talked to him like nothing happened. I have this problem—I’m always too friendly. It's just how I am. It’s hard for me to be blunt and tell someone they're bothering me. Being honest is tough.

_Atlanta_ said:I’ve personally never dealt with bullying at school, work, or college because I don't let people get away with that kind of crap. Bullying is everywhere—on the streets, in our own homes.
We had this girl in high school who was constantly targeted by everyone until she finally snapped during her senior year. What do I know? I just felt terrible for her and disgusted by the people taking their frustrations out on her. The administration did basically nothing, even though everyone knew exactly what was happening.

What really gets under my skin is how fast the school reacts when a "good" student makes one tiny mistake. They swoop in to punish them and tear them apart without a second thought.
😠

I’ve been there myself.
😳
This is just way too much information for me to process
😬

yep..
😳
it's official...

this movie completely killed my desire to hit the coast this summer.
😳

I don't miss the ocean at all.
😳
I don't even have those usual seasonal dreams about being at the beach like I do every single year around this time..

actually, more than that...
🙂
staying far away from the water.
gottcha said:Great. Now we get to sit through all the excuses. "Oh, I was under the influence of a parasite." Real classy.🙂

🤣

Ugh—
if that turns out to be true, it’s easy enough to just kick that parasite out.
🙂

That would explain everything about Roy.
Anthony Bailey said:Then why on earth were you even watching it? 😎

I just stumbled upon it by accident.
I was sorting through my playlist and had to turn the TV on to check the settings on the DVD player.

Heh.

Once the sentence is served, let me just say this: they ran endless, obsessive experiments on my people. They studied us down to the last detail just to ensure that if anything actually existed, they’d be the ones to find it.

unknown said:So, just before I walked my dog, I was watching this documentary about parasites. It’s actually pretty fascinating stuff... I haven't even seen the beginning, honestly. I've only caught bits of it twice.
Once the week before last, and then again today. I missed the start both times, so I don't even know the title.
But it's genuinely interesting...
Anyone else seen it?
And man, I bet the mods are gonna move this thread from Psychology over to Natural Sciences or something if we keep going down this rabbit hole...

Look...
The whole reason I started this thread was to talk about how parasites affect the human psyche.
😳

If this turns out to be true, it opens up massive possibilities—like being able to clear up certain mental symptoms that manifest through behavior on a psychological level.
Lawrence Booth2 said:The best kind is when you aim right into the stream while you're taking a leak.

😁😁😁

Thank God I missed that!
😳

Don't even bring that up again.
🙂

Anyway...
What's your take on parasites that actually influence human behavior?
😳

It gets messy when you factor in religion... and the legal side of things too.

If someone is being driven by a parasite, should they really face "hell" or some divine retribution according to religious doctrine?
Or should they be held accountable under U.S. law if they aren't truly responsible for their own actions?!
😕
