2005 remake - absolute garbage

casualotter21 said:A classic: there's an interesting movie on NPR. When is it? At 12:30 in the morning. What a waste.

Look, I’ve already caught bits of it while traveling through Europe and honestly... it was just okay. It’s not some mind-blowing masterpiece, but it’s decent enough.

I watched it on TCM US—they aired it last Christmas
😬 ,

nothing special about it.

Elizabeth Garcia2 said:Just another terrible American movie released in the last five years.
Even the usually brilliant Srđan "Žika" Todorović couldn't save this one.
It’s honestly shocking how much American filmmaking has tanked lately.
Everything I've watched recently feels just like this disaster—amateurish production, obnoxious leads, wooden acting, and a screenplay that is just painfully uninspired and stupid...

I disagree.
Look, I hate American movies from the bottom of my soul
but this one was actually solid—and if I say it's solid, then it's damn good.

Just one comparison for you
No matter how many crappy domestic movies get churned out—not a single one has ever reached, or will ever reach, the level of this masterpiece
which was filmed back in the late 1960s!

But sure, let’s just keep making teen dramas about sixteen-year-olds here

From what I recall—this movie did show up here in the States—down in a small town in rural Ohio.

Honestly, this movie is a masterpiece.
👍 👍

I’ve lost count of how many times I've sat through this.

Then one day, one night something happened - and snap!, it breaks and you just don't give a damn anymore.

It’s probably just people who can't handle a decent thriller or horror movie.

...

Must watch: 🙏🙏🙏

I didn't read everything just so you wouldn't ruin the movie for me!!

I have to see this!
🙏 🙏 🙏

👍

ps
As soon as it started, I went looking online for the true story behind it, but there isn't any information out there at all.

Not much to say here.

A total classic.
Engaging, thought-provoking, and a blast to watch.
👍 👍 👍

Honestly, we won't see an American production hit this level until pigs fly.
😁

And let's be real—pulling off a movie with this kind of plot and crew is incredibly difficult.

Zachary Castillo17 said:This movie is garbage... Seriously. The leads are boring, uninspired, and I didn't feel even a shred of empathy for them. Total crap.

Maybe the director was trying to pull a psychological stunt here, subtly suggesting it's perfectly fine to just feast on strangers when the characters are presented as nothing more than unfortunate victims.

👍

That’s the whole point—
I just can't stand watching it.
It isn't funny, and it sure as hell isn't interesting.

It doesn't even land as dark humor for me.

dustyscout53 said:That's because you just don't get the humor. If I wanted to prove it, tell me a few comedies you actually found funny.

Look, you're right,
I don't get this kind of humor—
it reminds me of those old cheesy pop songs.

My style? Think Airplane!, Young Frankenstein...

dustyscout53 said:Well, in that case, you’ve got a black heart and a black soul, you total loser. Go watch Bambi with your husband instead.

hahah
😁 😁
why is it black?
😕

Because I don't tolerate alcoholics, vulgarity, or abusers—basically everything dark in life?!
😕 😛

dustyscout53 said:So you haven't even heard of the Coen brothers? Wow. Real film critic right there. Way to go.

Look, I don't claim to be some massive film scholar,
but when I review movies, I do it honestly, straight from the gut.

😳
Wait, I didn't even check if it was the same directors.
😕
If not, then the director of Bad Santa definitely saw Thornton in "Man" and realized he was the perfect guy for the role.
Honestly, nobody else could even touch that role. It’s gotta be Thornton. Period.

Sometimes I think my ability to see right through people is actually my curse.
😬 😁 🤣
Bad Santa in Movies ·
anyway-

the movie starts-
exactly like "It's a Wonderful Life"
🙄
Thornton just sits there rambling, whining and moaning about his life like we actually give a damn. I guess he's trying to trigger some sympathy so the audience will "forgive" him and finally understand why he acts like an Asshole throughout the whole thing..
😵

that movie is also a total masterpiece of its genre
🙄

Oh, and now I actually have to read the book too.

God help me.

Besides, even if I did, Stanislav Yanevski wouldn't even be in the book.

Oh, look at you two finding common ground.

Our local forum tough guys.
😁

My review stands.
😳
Try making an actual argument about the movie instead of attacking my age.

Yeah.
Even I can't wrap my head around why you're so clueless..

Because those guys were basically screwing each other,
🙄

for pretty much the whole damn movie.
