Honestly, I got more out of picking up a few books about Joan of Arc. Real history is way more gripping than fiction. As for her trial and execution, it was a total sham—a rigged setup orchestrated by the English with help from certain clergy members who were loyal to them (back when parts of northern France were under English rule for decades).
The whole trial—if you want to call an Inquisitor's court a trial—was a complete mess and violated basically every rule in the book. That's why a third trial was launched years after she died. The first one, like they showed in the movie, happened when she asked the King for an army; back then, the Inquisitor and his crew decided she actually WAS sent by God. So, they handed her the military command.
At that third hearing, her name was finally cleared, the previous convictions were overturned, and she was cemented as a national hero and all that nonsense...
To this day, there's a massive amount of historically verifiable facts preserved about her. If anyone actually cares about the real story, it’s easy enough to find.😎
So, yeah, that's the short version...
Hey slyowl9,👋 😘
Personally, Joan really hit home for me.
I'd heard the name before—just knew she was burned at the stake—but I never actually knew her life story.
After watching this movie, I became a total fan.
👍
And it even changed my perspective on France for the better (it used to seem like such a boring, maybe even sinister place 😳 ).
