Omicron variant in Coronavirus ·
Gerald Chavez7 said:A case was spotted in the Czech Republic

...also traveling from Egypt. I have this nagging feeling the "source" is actually located somewhere else in Africa—not in Yari or Botswana.

It wasn't from Egypt, it was from Namibia.

And there's even some suspicion surrounding a case over in Germany.

Kyle Nelson2 said:I honestly find it mind-blowing how people are just out here booking international flights like nothing happened. Look, I get it, they’ve had their shots, but seriously? Just chill on the travel frenzy for a year or so. You’ll have plenty of time to make up for lost trips later...

You can't just stop living. I’ve had three shots, I followed every single federal mandate and listened to every word the CDC said, but sometimes you just have to go. Honestly, I’ve been pretty stuck in one spot for the last two or three years. I’m actually packing my bags right now, though I have to admit, this new variant has me feeling a little sketched out since it’s obvious my current shots won't cover it. But whatever, life is a risk regardless. You could catch COVID sitting in your own local Starbucks.
Stomach issues... what's going on? in Health ·

I honestly don't know what's wrong with me. It just hit me out of nowhere. I've never dealt with anything like this before.

Same here. I’ve never had anything this intense happen. Sure, maybe I'd have some minor issues once in a while for an evening or half a day, but never like this—where it just won't stop and nothing seems to work.

So, I've been dealing with this stomach discomfort for five days now. It’s not exactly "pain," if that makes sense... I threw up on the first day and had a ton of acid reflux. I tried sipping some Perrier, but honestly, it just made things worse—which is weird because sparkling water usually saves my life when my stomach acts up. My bathroom habits have been pretty loose lately, though that's pretty much my baseline anyway.

My stomach feels absolutely massive and bloated. It’s driving me crazy; I’m super sensitive to everything right now and it’s seriously messing with my daily routine. It’ll feel okay for a split second, then boom, right back to square one. Nothing seems to offer any long-term relief. For some reason, eating a tart apple actually helps a little. Everything sweet just makes me nauseous. My stomach constantly feels empty, so I feel forced to keep snacking just to dull that hollow sensation, but then the symptoms just come rushing back. I’m definitely not feeling 😁 coffee. As for cigarettes, I'm not sure... maybe they're an issue. Basically, greasy food and sugar are my enemies right now. The acid reflux has died down, but instead, I've got this constant reflux of liquid and intense bloating. It literally feels like I swallowed a bag of rocks.
For example, cottage cheese and crackers are fine, but soup kills me. Bread and spreads? No thanks. Fresh salad is okay, but cooked veggies make me feel terrible.

I'll probably head to the doctor tomorrow, but I'm curious—what kind of tests should I be asking for? And what could this even be?

I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary that anyone else hasn't touched. Nobody else is sick. It’s just me!

What am I even supposed to eat at this point?

What kind of inhaler are we talking about here? The blue one? The gray one? Or the white one?

I don't think they even realized they're testing for swine flu when there aren't even any respiratory issues involved!

That’s probably because swine flu isn't widespread here in the States, but let me tell you—not everyone with swine flu shows respiratory symptoms. Some people just deal with stomach pains or diarrhea, and others just get massive headaches or body aches and joint pain. Most end up with a high fever, a killer headache, and such bad weakness they can't even lift their heads off the pillow. Everyone reacts differently to an infectious virus.
They could just run an Influenza A test since it's a quick one, just to see if it's actually the influenza virus.

Lyme disease is way more dangerous than just one round of antibiotics.

I honestly don't get how people can be so casual about a possible Lyme diagnosis, especially when the bite mark looks exactly like what we're talking about. This isn't some harmless thing; it can mess with your heart and your brain if you don't deal with it IMMEDIATELY.

It hits your joints, your bones... basically everything living.

I personally wouldn't dream of putting off antibiotics.

It’s pretty obvious from the look of the bite itself, plus the way your body reacts. Most other bug bites just don't trigger that kind of response.

I don't think the doctor went overboard with the antibiotics, honestly. Lyme can leave you with some seriously nasty long-term consequences—we're talking organ damage and stuff. Do yourselves a favor and actually look into it; you'll see what I mean.

Personally? I wouldn't mess around with this. I’d just take the antibiotics.

They ruled out meningitis. They pulled blood and urine samples, but they haven't finished the lab work yet, and the doctor won't even see her until tomorrow...
She's on some standard IV drip right now, just lying there flat without a pillow—apparently, that's supposed to help reduce the pressure in her head (?)
I actually asked if the doctor said for sure whether this is definitely infectious, or if she suspects something else entirely... maybe she's even in the wrong hospital?
God knows. We'll find out tomorrow. 😢

First thing is they have to figure out if it's a viral or bacterial infection.

If I were you, I’d be pushing them to test for Influenza A. If that's what it is, she needs to start antivirals immediately. But hey, that's just my two cents since we're dealing with a massive outbreak over here in the States, and things are looking pretty different compared to how they are back home.

So how do they actually know it's infectious?

Has anyone else in the family come down with it yet?
I’m really hoping someone here can actually give me some useful advice. I’ve been dealing with these symptoms for about four weeks now, and nothing like this has ever happened to me before.

It all kicked off with this pain in my wrist, and then this little bump started forming right on the joint. Honestly, I figured it was just from spending way too much time hunched over my computer, since I've had minor issues like that in the past.

But then, a few weeks ago, that nagging, dull ache in my wrist suddenly flared up out of nowhere. Since then, it’s spread everywhere—my other joints, my arms, my legs... everything hurts. My temperature hits 37.5 degrees at night, but the pain is always worse.
I went to see my doctor, and they ran tests for rheumatoid arthritis, but everything came back negative. All the standard labs look fine, except for my ESR (Erythrocyte sedimentation rate), which is slightly elevated.
They also checked for other types of arthritis, but those were negative too.

That aching in my limbs lasted for about three weeks, but now it’s turned into this weird, constant tingling sensation in my arms and legs. It feels cold, like I’m being hit by a draft, and it just won't stop.

On top of that, I’ve got this chest pain on the right side, and I get that same tingling feeling there sometimes. I’m getting zaps in my fingers, my upper legs, and occasionally the back of my head goes numb. My EKG came back normal, though.

The doctors are basically clueless about what's causing any of this. Personally, I’m convinced a round of antibiotics would fix me right up, but they won't touch them until they figure out what's actually wrong, and God knows how slow this whole process is.

I’ve also got swelling in my legs. It seems like if I take something to help with water retention, like dandelion tea, things improve a little bit.

Just to be upfront: I smoke, I drink way too much coffee, and I spend a ridiculous amount of time sitting at my desk.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Living like this is becoming a total nightmare.
Joint pain issues in Health ·
My joints are killing me—specifically my arms and legs, just those areas...

It's been going on for about 8 to 10 days now, and honestly, it feels like it's getting worse.

I already went to see my doctor and they ran some tests to check for rheumatoid arthritis, but I won't have the results back for a few more days.

In the meantime, I’m running a slight fever every now and then (around 100°F), and I feel this overwhelming urge to just sleep. As soon as the pain in my bones and joints kicks in, I get hit with this massive wave of exhaustion.

Aside from the pain, I don't have any other symptoms. I've got these little tender lumps on my hand joints that ache whenever I move my hands, followed by this pain in my fingers and right in the middle of my palms—though I can't pinpoint the exact spot. It’s the same sensation in my shins, forearms, and upper arms, but it doesn't hit my knees. It’s this sharp, pulsing sensation, kind of like when you have a toothache.

The pain is constant, it just jumps from one spot to another, and it's leaving me feeling completely wiped out.

Does anyone have any clue what this could be? I've never dealt with anything like this before.
Anonymous said:I've been running a low-grade fever for about ten days now—somewhere between 99 and 100 degrees—and my joints in my hands and feet are just aching everywhere. Some of them hurt constantly, while others come and go. My ankles are the absolute worst; they haven't let up since this started, and now I'm getting these red patches and bumps that look like I was bitten by giant mosquitoes. On top of all that, I’ve got a sore throat, which hasn't happened to me in years.

Look, I know, I know... I need to see a doctor. But I'm still holding out hope that this will just clear up on its own, so maybe someone here has a clue what the hell this could be.

I am going through the exact same thing! Same joint pain in pairs and the same red spots!

Does anyone have any idea what this might be?
Dealing with depression in Health ·
I went through the exact same thing a few years back.

The way I see it, we’re looking at physical issues here, not some mental breakdown.

How old are you, anyway?

Go get your iron levels checked again—and I mean seriously check them!

That constant exhaustion and being on edge? That's almost always a sign of anemia.

The fact that you’re snapping at people and just don't have the energy to even hold a conversation... that impatience to just end the chat? Yeah, that's textbook anemia right there.

My thyroid levels were fine, and I don't deal with depression or anything, but I acted just like this when my iron was low. A few supplements really turned things around for me.

Here’s what actually helped me pull through:

I took iron supplements and focused heavily on iron-rich foods. My doctor told me straight up that the pills take about six months to really kick in, so in the meantime, you have to eat your way out of it.
I also took Vitamin B complex (honestly, it’s a lifesaver for irritability and totally safe)
And Ginseng!!!! You absolutely have to try it. It's safe, but man, the energy boost is massive.
Cut back on the pasta, grains, and bread, and start eating way more veggies, fruit, and fresh juices.
Eat plenty of fish.
And how on earth do you know it's premature?
