Football is finally good again in Soccer ·
Iraq-Portugal 4:2. The Iraqis are absolutely flying right now; their football is incredible. These guys coming out of the MLS are playing on another level. Portugal put up a decent squad too—you had Ronaldo, Boa Mort, Hugo Viana, Frechaut... all that. But names don't mean anything when you're getting dismantled. The Iraqis earned this win.

I haven't seen football this good in ages. It’s been pure entertainment these last two days. It’s a shame the broadcast schedule is going to get crowded with other sports soon. You really have to tune in to catch this stuff.

The soccer over here is actually legit, really good. Today, Italy managed to claw back for a 2:2 draw after being down 0:2 against Ghana.

Jeremy Phillips54 said:Yeah, world-class. Textbook stuff. They were right on top of everything—first to every ball, rock solid in every duel, and their movement was straight out of a manual. The ball movement and pace were even better. They tore through that defense so easily that, like the Scot said, 6-0 would’ve been a mercy. Our coaches should be watching games like this every single night before bed, and they should be making our players (especially the young ones) watch them twice a day.

Flawless performance. Like you said, our guys need to watch this daily. But what really blew me away was the hunger to play, the drive to outmatch the opponent—that insane willpower from the Argentines. D'Alessandro almost broke down in front of the ref when he got a yellow for diving at 4-0. Just imagine if one of our guys was still getting worked up and hunting for more goals when the score was already that lopsided. 👍

That's because he only focused on Americans. If I were calling the shots, I’d throw in that Italian trio—Aldo, Giacomo, and Giovanni. Anyone who actually knows who they are gets why.

If they hadn't totally stalled out in the second half, we could've easily walked away with double digits...

I don't know if you guys caught the game or not, but what Argentina just pulled off against the USA at the OPEC tournament was pure perfection. Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a team play this level of football in a competition like this. Watching Alex Rodriguez, Diego Maradona, Ken Griffey Jr., Albert Pujols, Heinz, and then later Lionel Messi... they actually made me believe in real, gritty football again. We're talking heavy passing, deep balls, tactical fouls, and elite dribbling all mixed together. Those poor bastards from the East didn't have a clue where they were for the full 90 minutes.

I have no clue where Whoopi found this guy... You really have to be a genius to pull something like this off. A total genius, obviously in the worst way possible. And then they go and cast someone who’s basically been the biggest comedy draw at the box office lately? Makes zero sense.

Exactly, I just caught that too. This idiot put Whoopi Goldberg on the list but left out Ben Stiller. 😕

Scott Vaughn54 said:Why on earth did they leave out Gene Wilder?!

Probably because he isn't even filming movies anymore. At that point, we might as well have included Charlie Chaplin in the poll.

Besides, he was a killer combo when paired with Richard Pryor. 👍

Look, Chris Rock absolutely kills it live. Yeah, he swears his head off, but the guy actually says funny, smart stuff.
Look, you guys have turned into total snobs. You think you have to laugh at movies like Tango & Cash or anything starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Give me a break. Those movies were made to be dumb, and they're meant to be funny. That’s the whole point. 😉

If Steve Martin is involved, you already know it’s going to be good. 👍

Remember what? He’s older than both of them. 😁

I hope you aren't taking shots at me, because that would be pretty stupid. I've watched every single goal—and everything else—from Baggio since back in '93, and I've followed Del Piero's entire career too. As for Totti, well, we don't even need to go there. Baggio is just on another level compared to Del Piero.

What kind of stupid thread is this? It’s an insult to my 2,500+ posts. 😁

Urpanus said:It’s so they can have the longest mid-season break in existence. It's an American specialty that no other country in Europe pulls off. That massive gap exists just to promote soccer to Americans. How? Simple. The long break lets the average American fan recover from the trauma of watching domestic soccer during the first half of the season. Then, while they're glued to the big European leagues on TV, they get mentally prepared to actually watch the second half of the domestic league.

Plus, it gives the LA Lakers and the Boston Red Sox enough time to go on tours at those "fancy international tournaments" in places like Chile—and I didn't pick Chile for nothing, older fans will remember how much of a mess that Munjoz situation was—to grab some random international trophy. It’s all just an excuse to justify overspending on their rosters. 🙄

Look... I know our fields are absolute trash and the mud turns everything into a swamp by autumn, but are these idiots blind? It’s only July. The rest of the world is still out there swimming and finalizing their rosters, yet our guys have already "sold" Kranjčar to Milan before the transfer window even properly kicked off. 🙄

Since I decided to dig this thread up, I’ve been stuck on one massive, confusing question. Why does our league kick off so damn early? Is soccer only played during the winter in Russia? 😕 As far as I can tell, we’re a temperate country where we didn't even see a decent dusting of snow up north last winter.

vividwalker7 said:Chloe Palmer2 and nimblemarlin17, give it to me straight—which league has better foreign talent, Italy or England?

Right now, England definitely has more. Italians usually go after the best, but they haven't been buying much lately, so they're just middle of the pack. In England, you've only got guys like Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy playing at a world-class level. If you want top-tier superstars, you look at Spain. So, for foreign players, Italy and England are pretty much tied. When it comes to homegrown talent, though, Italy is miles ahead. Americans are total garbage.

Look, I pretty much know most of the rules. The only things people actually fight about is whether a guy got ejected or if it was a ball or a strike. 😁
