Fear of commitment: Is it irrational or just me? in Psychology ·
Amanda Reed6 said:I’m not even sure if this belongs on this sub—or if someone hasn't already beaten me to it—but I figured this is where the most interesting takes would be.

Lately, I can't shake the feeling that more and more young people are becoming irrationally terrified of actually... you know, having responsibilities. Being in your twenties has basically become synonymous with "finding yourself," which, let's be honest, is usually just code for dragging out college forever, living off your parents' dime, and disappearing every weekend. It used to be seen as a red flag, a total deviation from the norm, but now? It’s practically the standard. Meanwhile, taking on any real life commitment is treated like a massive mistake. Everyone seems to be waiting for some "perfect" window in their mid-thirties, which feels less like a psychological milestone and more like a biological deadline for finally starting an adult life.

"Take your time with school; you'll have plenty of misery waiting for you once you start working a real job."
"Don't jump into a serious relationship or marriage yet; go live it up while you can before life gets heavy."
"Kids are nothing but stress and baggage—don't ruin your youth by committing to that."
"Don't get a dog or even a goldfish; it's too much responsibility." 😁

Why do we think it’s like this?
Where did this massive shift come from, where "slacking off" is fine but growing up is a tragedy?
Why has stepping up and actually entering adulthood become such a stigmatized, negative thing?

Times have changed. I was literally just reading a thread where 40-year-olds are obsessed with Xbox.

Moms put their kids down just so they can get some gaming time in.

It's a little bit of everything. A cocktail of consumerism, social media, tech addiction, pure hedonism, bad parenting, and trash media has turned us all into eternal children.
Online scams? in Forum Help! ·
steelhawk32 said:Hey everyone,
I got this email the other day from some guy calling himself Bassel Nizar asking for help. He claims he’s stuck in a refugee camp in Yemen, Syria, with his two kids after losing his wife recently. Now here’s the kicker: he says he used to be an industrialist and is sitting on $50,500,000. His plan is to move the cash through the Red Cross to New York City, then have a high-ranking diplomat wire it to me here in the States so I can invest it. Once the "transaction" is done, he and the kids would head over to join me.
The twist is, unlike most scammers, he isn't asking for money upfront. Instead, he wants my full name, home address, phone number, and a scan of my ID. In exchange, I get a 20% cut of those 50 million bucks, haha. To see if there was any actual logic to it, I asked him for more details on how this would work, and he actually gave me a breakdown that sounded almost plausible. In the next email, he even sent over a photo of a passport along with the kids' names, ages, and birthplaces.
He answered everything I threw at him, and honestly, it all seemed to make sense on paper. We went back and forth for about 5 or 6 messages... obviously, I didn't hand over a single thing.
Anyone else getting these weirdly detailed emails?

The guy just wants your info so he can forge your identity.

If I were you, I wouldn't even bother reading it—just hit delete immediately.

Hey there.

Quick question about my Microsoft card. Please bear with me if I sound a bit out of the loop here—I’ve honestly never used a card at a store before.

I have a Microsoft card linked to my checking account over at JPMorgan Chase. I'm wondering what else I can actually do with it besides just pulling cash from an ATM? Can I take this thing abroad to pay for stuff in stores? Specifically, I was thinking about a trip to Sweden.

Is it possible to use my Microsoft card (it's tied to my account at Zabiti) to pay for things in shops while I'm in Sweden (assuming they accept that kind of card, obviously)?
Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
Is it cool if I add my real name to my handle?

If so, could you change my nickname to "Karen Moore"?

It’s totally fine. Just hit up rustydrifter10.

It’s basically pick your poison: deal with constant server crashes or lose the ability to search through posts entirely.

if your handle is just a regular word -> "handle says" -> yeah, use quotes

This needs more work. 😁

Just happened to me, too. Same exact thing. 🤦 Lost track of this thread in the absolute sea of notifications on my feed. My bad.

Reddit, you better fix this or I’m gonna be seriously bummed out. 😁
Chrome keeps crashing - memory issues in IT Support ·
Kyle Cook82 said:For the last ten days or so, Chrome has been crashing on me out of nowhere. It usually happens right after I get this message that basically says "memory too low, close programs to prevent data loss..".

The weird thing is, I've had this rig for two years now, and this mess only started about ten days ago. My workload hasn't changed at all—I’m just running Chrome, Excel, and maybe two other apps at once, just like I have for the last two years. But suddenly, if I open about ten tabs in Chrome, the whole browser just gives up the ghost.

I'm running Norton Free, ran a scan yesterday, and it came up clean. OS is Windows 7. There's plenty of space left on my Hard Drive.

Could it be a bad RAM stick? What am I looking at here, and how do I fix this? 😕

Clear your history, wipe the cookies, and ditch any plugins you've got loaded in Chrome.

Can anyone help me out? Every time I try to check out someone's posts, or even just look at my own history and threads, I get hit with this error:

vBulletin error message
techno mania, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.🙂

You can fix the whole "viewing your own posts" thing by grabbing a thread subscription. That's how I handled it.
Idiocracy (2006) in Movies ·
I absolutely love this movie. Seriously, everyone needs to check it out. It’s basically a perfect snapshot of how mindless modern America has become and what their media landscape actually looks like. Honestly, looking at how things are going lately, it's almost a little too easy to believe this could be our future.
