The movie doesn't really stick because it’s pretty broken. First issue: That Gandolfini-like figure is totally useless; feels like the writers realized it halfway through and just cut him out with a couple lines of dialogue. Second issue: There’s no real plot or climax. You finish it feeling like you missed the point. Third issue: It’s way too violent, though honestly, that says more about the era we live in than the film itself.
I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this movie yet, especially since it's a frontrunner for a few Oscars. 😕
So, my wife and I caught it last night. She wasn't feeling it, but I actually liked it. She thought the moral was too basic and hated that whole subplot about the layoffs, but honestly, that was the best part for me. Watching his life being constantly Up in the Air and seeing how he handles letting people go? That’s where the movie really hits.
Maybe the fact that I loved this movie while my wife absolutely hated it proves it’s polarizing, or maybe it just means our marriage is built on shaky ground. 😁
Decent flick. Nothing groundbreaking, but it holds its own. It’s a pretty good look at how a marriage can slide from total bliss into a complete train wreck, even if the ending gets a bit over the top. Interestingly enough, looking at the IMDb ratings, it seems like teenage girls are out here giving it nothing but thumbs up. 😁It might just ruin their idea of what marriage looks like. 😁
Spent my whole afternoon watching it and honestly? No regrets. It’s easily the best of the Oscar nominees, even if I get why it didn't take home the trophy.
Langella definitely earned an Oscar for his performance, but since I haven't seen Milk, I can't really say how Penn stacked up. That said, Frost/Nixon is a solid 9/10 for me. It's super tense—even though you pretty much know the ending, the acting is so spot-on you'll feel like you're watching actual archival footage. Definitely worth a watch. 👍
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is exactly how rom-coms should be—not greasy or pathetic, just funny, actually engaging, and packed with killer performances. It hits all those marks, making it easily the best surprise of 2008.
Man, things like this make me regret living in these tiny backwater towns that call themselves cities but don't even have a decent theater. I'm actually jealous of anyone headed there to catch this.
Parodies are basically comedies for people with zero depth who just want cheap gags thrown at them. Whatever, though—they’re living in their own little paradise. 😁

Not really, though. If you can get past the fact that the West Ham crew—which is basically one of the most badass companies in the USA—can just adopt an American who's basically a whiny little hobbit, then sure, you might enjoy it.
Facts. The Canadians were played against the Mexicans and then screwed over by the Americans. The officiating was garbage, not even close to fair. They did the exact same thing to the Mexicans to help them out in the finals. But honestly, the Canadians are the last people who should be complaining about the refs.
And now the Mexicans are dragging this all up just to push their own agenda. You can never win with them; the ref always finds a way to rob them.🙄
