I was actually reading an article about ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) today. It was my first time hearing about this psychological issue, and based on what you wrote regarding your sister, she seems to have the exact same "symptoms"...
Am I just a little slow? in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’ve never seen the point in talking about myself. Honestly, I don't have the urge. I also can't stand listening to people drone on about themselves either. The only exception is when it's my inner circle—just two people I actually feel comfortable with. With them, I don't mind opening up.
I really dislike it when people feel the need to recount their entire life story or give me a play-by-play of everything they did that day. It just doesn't interest me.
The same goes for larger social gatherings. Everyone tries to outdo one another, fighting for airtime, but I see zero value in trying to shout over everyone else. People think I'm weird for staying quiet, but whatever. 😁
I have this friend who loves dissecting every tiny detail of her dating life with me. Me? I don't think I've ever shared anything about my romantic life with anyone in my life. xD I just don't get why anyone would want to know those kinds of intimate details.
I'm in my early twenties. I went to see my doctor because I’ve been feeling weak, nauseous, having abdominal pain, and just generally feeling terrible for two weeks now. I'll only list the results that aren't within the optimal range. My blood work shows:

HEMATOLOGY

MPV 10.8 ref 6.8-10.4 - elevated
Eosinophil granulocytes 0.54 ref 0-0.43 - elevated
Eosinophil granulocytes rel% 7.9 ref 0-7 - elevated
Neutrophil granulocytes 37 ref 44-72 - decreased

MICROSCOPIC SEDIMENT EXAMINATION

Leukocytes 1-3 ref 0-2
Squamous epithelial cells 1-3 ref 0-1
Bacteria rare

SERUM BIOCHEMISTRY

Total Bilirubin 48 ref 3-20

My Bilirubin was high once before a few years ago too—it hit 40—so I don't know if this could be something I was born with or if it's something I actually need to worry about?

My apartment isn't big enough to fit all that anyway, haha. 😢
I need help, please! in Psychology & Therapy ·
It’s wild how many people get a knot in their stomach just thinking about their school days. For me, elementary school was a total nightmare. Luckily, I found my crew in high school, and we're still hanging out today. Sure, there were some rough patches, but overall, high school was alright. People seem a bit more grown-up and mature by then—they don't just pick on people for no reason like they do in middle school.

Toxic family dynamics: How do you deal with it? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Zachary James5 said:I’ve got a massive problem with my parents. And honestly, just with my whole family.

For four years, I lived in a boarding school—except for summers and holidays—and it’s only now, right before I head off to college, that I’m realizing just how different we all are.

Let me give you a few examples:

I’m an organized person. Back at school, I had a ton of stuff, so I had to keep everything within reach, but it was all neatly arranged, even if my room felt tiny. I’d clean at least twice a week, take out the trash regularly, and so on. You could say I was almost excessively tidy—a bit of a "nerd" or a "geek," I guess.
But my parents, my sister, and my grandma are my total opposites.

My mom in her own house and my grandma in hers are the only people who actually know where anything is located. For instance, when you go looking for a screwdriver and can’t find it in the garage, so you ask the "bosses" where it went, they’ll tell you it’s in the bathroom! It drives me crazy because it makes zero sense.

Or when I need to put things back that they’ve picked up. Like, say, a piece of wood my dad used for a project, and when I ask him where to put it back, he just says, “Just put it over there.”
Needless to say, I have no idea what "there" actually means. When I take it somewhere I think is appropriate, like the workshop, they just tell me, “Don't blame me, you don't know any better.”

You’d think life would be easier if things were kept in some kind of order, but when you have a hundred items scattered all over the house like this, it’s a total disaster.

Furthermore, I hate it when they tell me what to do. The most banal, irritating example is when they lecture me—a skinny guy—about what I should eat and how much. Aside from my sister, they’re all pretty large.
They’re constantly offering me food. After lunch, they’ll tell me to have more, try a little of this, or ask if I want dessert.
When I was at boarding school, I had a set meal schedule. I’d eat five or six times a day, eating as healthy as possible. Since I was living there, I didn't have the chance to cook for myself. I tried to keep my diet varied and ate plenty of fruits and vegetables because I played sports and stayed active, studying not just for school but researching things I was personally interested in.

I can’t talk about anything with them because they’re stuck in their own weird heads. My father talks to my grandma—his mother—constantly, maybe thirty times a day, and all they ever discuss is what they ate, or something I said once, or blah blah blah... She is the most important person in his life.

One last thing: there was almost a car accident recently. I wasn't there, but my father told me how he nearly got into a physical fight with the other driver. He was furious for a while, and then he came up with the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard: he blamed my mom because she didn't stop him from fighting, even though he didn't actually fight anyone. I immediately thought, how idiotic is that? Why does he need her? Does he need someone to babysit him?
It goes without saying that he blames my mother for everything that goes wrong in his life.

I want to know how to deal with this suffocating feeling of pressure and how to get through these next few months.
I can't live normally; it’s such a strange sensation. They expect me to talk to them, but I won't, because I don't really trust them. During the worst parts of my puberty, they weren't there for me or gave me any support at all.
Things were worse before; I was just a kid, terrified they were going to get a divorce. My father used to threaten my mother with that constantly, ever since we started going on summer vacations together. I didn't have a great childhood, but I don't want to cry about it—that's in the past. Now I have a different problem that I think I can solve. Or maybe I can't. But I want to do something about it.

My dad does the exact same thing to my mom, and she hasn't done a single thing wrong. It’s honestly pathetic. It’s like these people can't just man up and take responsibility for their own messes.

I dealt with something similar a long time ago, and it just cleared up on its own🤷

I just can't bring myself to get angry at anyone in Psychology & Therapy ·

My dear friends... Have you ever found yourselves in a position where you simply can't bring yourselves to hold a grudge? Where you realize certain people have treated you quite poorly, yet you feel no anger toward them whatsoever... No resentment, no bitterness... just nothing.
I am curious to know how healthy that actually is... and if it's even a good thing at all...??

Yeah, I'm the same way. It’s pretty rare for me to actually get angry. I honestly thought I was the only one who felt this way lol.
Personally, I don't think it's great. There are times when people do things that would make anyone else lose it, but I barely feel anything. Sometimes I force myself to get mad or start an argument just because I know it feels like the "right" reaction to what happened.
Lately though, I've been feeling more irritation, thank God. 🙏 I'm getting there. 😁
Lost in space in Psychology ·
I think plenty of people deal with this; it’s really not that big of a deal. I’m constantly forgetting where I’m headed or where I just came from myself. Maybe when you're moving toward a destination, you just zone out and focus on getting there instead of actually paying attention to your surroundings. Next time you head somewhere new, try making a conscious effort to look around and lock in a few landmarks. It might help you find your way back later. Honestly, though, I don't think many people can actually map out a route perfectly after passing through a place just once.

I mean, what kind of guy actually *doesn't* want to be level-headed? 😕 Isn't being chill basically a virtue at this point? It’s definitely better than just being constantly pissed off and on edge all the time...

Look, being calm is fine, but I’m so laid back people always call me a zombie. And honestly, when is it a bad idea to lose your cool a little, vent, and snap at someone who's getting on your nerves? I just can't do that. That's how it is. Hopefully, you get it now.
