It’s been nearly three years since I first joined. I still log in every once in a while just to check the pulse of things, but let’s be honest—this picture book is absolutely dead. If my ban ever gets lifted, I promise I’ll play nice... mostly just posting photos and keeping my comments harmless. Nothing disgusting, I swear...
If there's any chance, thanks 🙂
If not, no big deal 🐔

Honestly, after seeing how weak the opening weekend was, I totally wrote this one off as a massive flop. Such a bummer, too, because on paper it looked like a decent, breezy summer comedy—you know, some hot girls, a few laughs, and obviously starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who can pretty much carry any dumb movie or at least make it slightly better than it should be.

Trailer

But then, man, it actually caught me off guard. Even though it struggled with a measly $57,247,747 here in the USA, it pulled in a solid $94,900,000 overseas, with Germany leading the pack at $13,737,337.

So, the total haul ended up being a respectable $152,147,747.

Since the budget for a comedy was sitting high at $69 million, the movie actually managed to turn a profit. We all know that magic math equation where you take the budget, add a big enough chunk, and boom—profit.

It makes sense that it did better internationally, though. Baywatch was huge back in the 90s over in Germany, and David Hasselhoff is still an absolute legend there. Back in its prime, that show had over a billion viewers worldwide. It’s only logical people still remember it, even if I wish this flick had been an even bigger smash.

SPOILER?
Both he and Pamela Anderson make cameo appearances in the movie.

I watched Mack too a long time ago
Back when I was just a kid, watching without subtitles (those old movies used to air right after Cartoon Network 🙈)...
Obviously, I had zero clue what they were actually shouting about, but it broke my heart seeing how that guy in the cast behaved toward his wife 🤣.

If "Hidden Figures" doesn't hit the mark for me, then he might as well just go buy a La La Land Oscar 🙂...

I tried watching it without subtitles, but I just couldn't focus on what they were actually saying... plus, if they even mumble a word, it’s totally lost on me. 🙂

What other movies have been adapted from stage plays?
I remember watching Mother Night—that was actually decent, even though it was just two actresses on screen talking the whole time. But honestly, that might be because I’d already read the play beforehand. And the actresses didn't talk in that exhausting, rapid-fire way these people do... watching this feels like a workout. I'm practically sweating just trying to follow along, like I'm biking uphill or something. 🙈

I totally checked out after an hour (and the movie is nearly two and a half hours long) 🙈

It’s painfully obvious this was adapted straight from a stage play. The entire runtime is just endless, drawn-out monologues from Denzel Washington about topics I couldn't even wrap my head around because he talks way too fast... the subtitles were basically flying across the screen at a hundred miles an hour.

The rest of the cast? They’re basically just there to act as a backdrop for his preaching. And when they actually do get a line in, they talk with that rapid-fire pace you see from those two characters on "Gilmorica," just loaded with urban slang 🙂

"Fences" is an American drama directed by Denzel Washington. It's based on the play by August Wilson, which he wrote himself...
The story follows a family living in Pittsburgh back in the 1950s—the father used to play in the Negro Leagues. It really centers on the tension between him and his son, plus all this heavy stuff from his past that he just can't escape...

The cast includes Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sidney.

Both Denzel and Viola were nominated for an Oscar

I mean, seriously? How does she just jump into cars with everyone like that? It makes no sense... 🙂

Seriously? I thought it was totally delusional to think those two would just hook up and then immediately go house hunting in some leafy suburb together...

I’m just not seeing any of that supposed "spark" between them...
honestly, I was practically counting down the minutes until they weren't sharing the screen anymore.

that guy who paid her $1,000 just to jerk off is way too much for me to handle... 🙏

plus, the whole cowboy thing? makes zero sense to me.
that Shiite guy totally ruined the vibe when he barged in right when I was getting invested in what they were actually going to do to her after she got drunk.

American Honey is this high-energy, lyrical odyssey about a pack of wild teenagers drifting through the American Midwest selling magazines. Burnt out by a rough home life, young Star escapes her dysfunctional family to join a crew of traveling vendors. She falls for Jake—played by the eccentric Shia LaBeouf—and quickly gets sucked into their outlaw lifestyle of constant partying, breaking the law, and endless wandering. This fourth feature from the award-winning director Andrea Arnold offers a gutsy look at the subculture of American youth outcasts, all based on real-life experiences.

I honestly cannot believe I sat through three hours of a movie where absolutely nothing happens. That "couple" is easily one of the most irritating pairings I've seen on screen lately. The actress playing the lead looks like she’s sporting a mustache and has no teeth, which makes her a total distraction in every single scene. And the guy Shia plays... good grief, what an insufferable creature.
Just a bunch of messed up, annoying punks. I don't get how she just sits in that truck with him when he tells her he has a delivery to make, and then she hops out and finds those losers again like he just drove around the block instead of miles away to god knows where.
A pleasant surprise seeing Elvis's granddaughter acting as their boss. Truly the only character who didn't drive me insane.

It can't possibly be worse than something like Passengers
It’s fine if you just want to kill an hour or two without having to strain your brain trying to decipher what the author was actually getting at... because it’s blindingly obvious they're just pushing that typical Tumblr user narrative that Black people are somehow more intelligent than white people. It's just more of that propaganda that only lands with Americans—and specifically those types who make a career out of typing out angry rants about societal injustice on their keyboards.

The Space Race meets the American Dream in Hidden Figures. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, Hidden Figures focuses on three brilliant African American women scientists who, despite being pushed to the fringes of society, shaped massive historical moments.

Based on the true story of three African American women working at NASA during the high-stakes space race between the USSR and the USA, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn, and Mary Jackson were the actual brains behind the operation that launched astronaut John Glenn into orbit. These three mathematicians essentially flipped the script on the race to the stars and paved the path for the USA to reach the moon.

In the first trailer for this film about inspiring women living in an era designed to hold them back, Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monsa give us a look into the lives of these overlooked scientists.

Ted Melfi directed the film, based on the screenplay by Allison Schroeder, and the cast features Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell.

.

One movie I’m actually looking forward to. The cast looks solid and from the trailer, it seems entertaining enough. I just hope they don't ruin it by forcing the narrative that one of the leads—or even the whole damn movie morati sweep up awards just because of race... you know, all that same old "Oscars sol White" nonsense that gets so exhausting every single year... 🤦

So, Natalie Portman is pregnant again
just like when she bagged that first Oscar
maybe she’ll get lucky this time too and walk away with a statue while rocking a baby bump... assuming she doesn't go into labor before then...
If it were up to Lupita Nyong'o for the next
, she’d probably hand it to Sarah Paulson... but then everyone would start screaming about "racism!"

Yeah
it doesn't look like it to me either, not even close
Natalie is just too beautiful
she's clearly gunning for another Oscar...
