Resident Evil series (2002-2008) in Movies ·
Forget about the prequel, everyone! Bloody Disgusting just confirmed it was all an April Fools' Day prank:

Update: Just to clarify, this was an April Fools' Day joke. All of you who stole this story and credited Screen Gems, serves you right.

No matter how terrible the "Afterlife" installment was, it clearly pulled in way more cash than the previous entries, and both Milla Jovovich and Sienna Guillory have already taken to Twitter to confirm they're training for the fifth film.

That reboot news was actually just an April Fools' Day prank by Bloody Disgusting, which other outlets then picked up and ran as if it were legitimate news.
Phobia - the first segment (the one with the girl and the cell phone), toward the end. Possibly the greatest jump scare ever put to film.

The Thing (Carpenter's) - specifically the blood test scene and the defibrillator sequence.

A Tale of Two Sisters - there's something under the sink.😱

Shutter (the original) - most of the movie qualifies, though the opening stands out when the protagonist catches "something unusual" through the camera lens for just a split second.

The Eye (the original) - the scene where the ghost suddenly appears with the scream "sitting on my chair".

Ju-on: The Grudge 2 (the Japanese sequel) - a solid portion of the film.

The Descent - the accident at the start, then one intense jump scare after the protagonist wakes up in the middle of the night. And, of course, "the scene" in the cave.

Dog Soldiers - the "cow from the sky."😁

REC - this film is absolutely loaded with jump scares; it's difficult to single just one out.

I’ve managed to sit through the first 10 minutes or so of the film. For those who haven't seen it yet, let me tell you: you truly cannot grasp just how unimaginably bad this is until you experience it yourself. I can only begin to imagine what kind of disaster the rest of 😱
turns out to be.

While Sony Pictures is gearing up for Resident Evil: Afterlife, the 3D sequel set to hit theaters on August 27, 2010, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively (and officially) learned that the studio is already eyeing the fifth installment. Even though Milla Jovovich in Afterlife is a done deal, keeping
her in the mix is likely becoming a massive expense and a logistical headache, despite her marriage to producer Paul W. S. Anderson. Rather than pushing the current narrative further, the studio
is actually mapping out a bit of a reboot, currently referred to as Resident Evil: Begins. It is still quite a ways off, but the concept involves reimagining the saga of an elite military squad
battling a rogue supercomputer and a swarm of scientists who turned into flesh-eating monsters following a lab disaster.

Recently, the producer of the Resident Evil movie, Jeremy Bolt, stated that these claims are inaccurate and that everyone has completely misinterpreted the situation regarding a fifth installment being a reboot. In reality, the fourth film, Afterlife, serves as the start of a new trilogy. That is all there is to it. Furthermore, Milla Jovovich mentioned on Twitter that a fifth film will happen if Afterlife performs well enough at the box office—which it certainly will, considering every single sequel has outperformed its predecessor.
Anthony Smith3 said:Whatever. Dolph Lundgren has always been cooler than Steven Seagal just by existing—especially in those kinds of action flicks where that actually matters. But hey, taste is subjective, I guess. As for Arnia, he only stayed relevant because he picked the right projects. If he hadn't landed The Terminator or Conan the Barbarian, he wouldn't have had much of a shot with stuff like Red Sonja, Raw Deal, or Twins.

I'll be honest, I wasn't really a fan of Dolph when I was a kid either. But over the last couple of years, thanks to some folks who actually know him personally, I gave him another shot—and man, the guy is a total powerhouse as an action hero. Personally, I think movies like Rocky IV, Red Scorpion (which is a killer 80s flick, basically his version of Rambo III), The Punisher, Dark Angel, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Joshua Tree, and Universal Soldier are all absolute bangers from that 80s/90s era. Same goes for those first five or six Steven Seagal movies, too.👍

Regarding Arnold Schwarzenegger, he was at his absolute best in movies where he had the least amount of dialogue. 🤣 I was actually quite pleasantly surprised during a recent rewatch of "Predator," realizing it might actually be his finest acting performance. 🙂 Both him and Dolph fall into that category of actors who may not be classically talented, but they command the screen instantly just by being in the frame.

Anyway, to avoid drifting off-topic too much, I’ll just say this—it’s great news that Cage's upcoming "Season of the Witch" filmed part of its production here in America, just as Rob Cohen's "Medieval" is set to shoot here as well. And then there's Bollo's "Bloodrayne 3" 🤣 Let's hope the production doesn't stop with just these few projects. As David Price5 puts it: we just need more foreign capital to flow in. 👍
David Price5 said:It looks like a lot of you really can't stand Uwe Boll. I'm curious, how many of his movies has everyone here actually sat through?

Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Dungeon Siege, Far Cry... you can't even decide which one is better 🤣 (even if Dungeon Siege and Far Cry fall into that specific category of being "so bad they're actually good")
For those interested, here is the script review for that film.

Anthony Smith3 said:Come on... if Uwe Boll could shoot here... then let Rob Cohen film something too LOL🤣😁

I honestly can't decide which is worse. 🤣

As for Uwe, he might just make a comeback in our beautiful America; he's confirmed he'll be filming Bloodrayne 3 this spring, with Kristanna returning for the title role. 🤣

The second film is easily the standout. Honestly, Wolverine is by far the weakest of the four; while the action sequences might hold some merit, the moment the characters start talking, the whole thing turns into absolute garbage 😳

To me, the first Resident Evil movie stands out as the best of the bunch. I think part of the reason is that Anderson didn't try so hard to cram in every single game element—something he handled pretty clumsily in the second and third installments (though, to be fair, they were still highly entertaining despite their massive flaws). For instance, he completely botched Nemesis by turning him into a pushover, and in the third film, he just swapped Jill for Claire without making any meaningful changes. I actually read the original script for the third movie where only Jill was featured; she had the exact same lines that Claire ended up delivering in the final cut.
The first film captured a much better atmosphere than, say, Extinction, where they pivoted entirely toward action and replaced genuine horror with loud, jarring noises (which is ironic, considering the games eventually took that same direction starting with the fourth entry). Beyond that, I really loved the Beltrami-Manson pairing; it’s a shame they didn't team up for the subsequent films. I also have a huge soft spot for Milla 🙈, which is why the live-action movies will always rank higher for me than Degeneration. To my mind, Degeneration felt mediocre at best—it functioned more like a glorified commercial for Resident Evil 5 (promoting the Tricell corporation and all that) rather than a standalone film. The acting was disastrous, though that was somewhat expected given that the Capcom folks chose the same actor who voiced Leon in the fourth game. That being said, I will admit that Degeneration wasn't boring.
Saw VI: Thoughts? in Movies ·
Alright, have any of you three actually sat down to watch this movie yet? 🙂

The critic scores are surprisingly high—Rotten Tomatoes shows that while the original still holds the top spot, the sixth installment is right on its heels 😲 Does that actually mean we're looking at a winner here? Given that the fifth one was an absolute train wreck, I shouldn't be surprised by these numbers, but still...

The script was decent enough, though there’s a sudden shift in focus during the final third (right after *that one scene*, if I don't want to go spoiling anything). Now, we just have to see how Twohy handled the execution on screen. Since I pretty much catch every movie featuring Milla, I’ll definitely be checking this one out 😳

Go ahead and check that first TS-copy from two years ago like you did before, then let me know if the quality holds up. 🙂

Edit: I just checked YouTube to see if anything had surfaced, and I honestly couldn't believe my eyes—someone uploaded the end of the second film. I'm assuming it's ripped from a TS-copy. I only watched a few seconds of it, but the picture quality looks solid (based on the comments, people seem to agree it isn't a fake).

A short clip from the movie just surfaced on IMDb. 18+ (explicit violence)
rustyscout34 said:Look, I believe you that he's good and his performance was great! But I think calling him the best of 2008 is a stretch. He's good, maybe even excellent, I don't doubt that, but I won't know if he's truly the best until I see it myself (though I have my doubts...) 👍

p.s.
goldenhound32, you've got me on your ignore list, so I can't really respond to you...

Personally, I found that movie to be mediocre at best. I can't deny that Jean-Claude Van Damme was solid in the lead role, but the film itself was a bore, with the exception of that famous monologue and a few other scenes. I should emphasize that I wasn't expecting any action sequences before watching it.

On topic: I generally avoid Hallmark productions and similar "based on a true story" movies that air on PBS or FOX around 2:00 PM. I usually just change the channel whenever I see Leo Thompson in anything other than Back to the Future; perhaps it's because of that awful "Jane Doe" series that they just never seem to stop filming. 😁

Movies you couldn't even finish in Movies ·
It is quite rare for me to actually turn off a movie mid-stream, but today was an exception; I reached the halfway point of my second film and simply decided to call it quits.

1. 60 Million Dollar Man - one of those numerous parodies starring Stephen Chow, but much like From Beijing with Love, this one was utterly unwatchable.
2. So I Married an Axe Murderer - despite being labeled a "hilarious" comedy in several places, I was expecting something a bit more engaging than a total sedative.

😂 It won't even hit American theaters until November, and you shouldn't expect a Netflix release until February 2010 at the earliest.

There was some talk about him having a cameo, so I honestly expected him to show up as one of the infected rather than how it actually went down.
