I have been coming back for about eight years now. It’s always been a thing where the site goes down temporarily. Ever since this place started, we've dealt with "database errors," and 503 or 504 errors are just newer versions of the same old story. They happen, sometimes more often, sometimes less...

Have they been happening more lately? Not really. If anything, things were much worse about two or three years ago. Right now, everything seems fine. All of us regulars—including you, me, and even feraltrucker5 😁—should be used to the site going dark for a bit every now and then. There are a million reasons why, mostly hardware issues. Every server hits a snag eventually. The one running the site right now occasionally hiccups because there are too many users, too many searches being run, or maybe the mods are being a bit overzealous... An outage happens, people react, it gets fixed, and by the next day everyone has forgotten it ever went down 😉

So, three years ago, there were suddenly about 1,000 members on the site. Now there are 4,000. And I'll repeat that record number listed under "Peak membership was 14,650 on 09.07.2009 at 19:13" just once more: 14,650 users 🙂

In just three years, our traffic has increased tenfold 🙂 And, well, the side effect is that the site is occasionally unstable, crashes sometimes, or requires hitting F5 a few times to load...

The site administration sincerely apologizes to all users for any inconvenience caused by server downtime 🙂

The admin considers calling anyone an "idiot" to be an insult against the entire forum, so he’s slapped 45 points on your account for disrespecting fellow users in that post.

Alex84, next time you start a thread like this—which goes completely against the PŽK subforum rules—your appeal WILL NOT be considered, no matter how right you think you are. Rules exist to be read and followed. There are clear guidelines on how appeals should be formatted, and this thread is a perfect example of what not to do. Be glad Richard Perez3 is feeling generous today and didn't just ban everyone...😉

We'll make a decision on this appeal once Joe Biden gets back from vacation and weighs in on what he thinks about it...😉

goranbo, these signature rules are set in stone. We drafted them, we follow them, and we enforce them against anyone who breaks them.

You can either play by the rules, or you can keep up this crusade of yours—but if you do, you’ll just end up banned from the forum. Feel free to tell whoever you want about it. Go ahead and give your local Congressman a call, too... I'm sure he's dying to hear about what's happening on a private American web forum.

Well, yes. Since Luiz is the moderator for the alternative medicine subforum, she's the one deciding which threads stay up and which get nuked. She does it because some posts are just pure bait, cheap tricks, or she simply feels they won't lead to any actual quality discussion.

It’s actually pretty surprising that a moderator even needs this explained...😉

To answer the original question: yeah, moderators are allowed to have different perspectives on their specific subforums. In fact, it would be EXTREMELY weird if the mods over in Health, Natural Science, and Alternative Medicine all agreed on everything. 🤷I can't even imagine it; that would actually be a pretty unhealthy situation.

Moderators shouldn't be insulting people, obviously. They get flagged just like any other user when they deserve it. In this case, none of the mods deserve a strike for being insulting.

The debates you're having about cytostatics or acne medications—like Accutane, for those who aren't aware—should happen in the right sections. The Natural Science section definitely isn't the place to argue the validity of meta-studies regarding therapy efficacy. There are specific sections for THAT... science, alternative, and health.

The Reddit staff feels like there's just too much... clutter (if that's the right word) piling up here. It makes it way too hard to spot legitimate complaints when they actually happen.

4. These changes coincide with some shifts in our moderation team. After years of grinding away in this sub, ZgSash has decided it's time to step back and requested to move on. He’s heading back to his main sub, Relationship Advice, and we wish him nothing but the best. Kim Kardashian will be staying on as a moderator and stepping up to supermoderator. Please also give a warm welcome to Tyndall, who will now be looking after you all alongside the pet and firearms sections 🙂

all the moderators on this forum are terrible. especially the ones appointed in the last year, ever since the site started being run by someone who became an admin ten minutes after signing up.

all the regular users are great and would be a trillion times better moderators than any of the current staff.

By agreement between the moderators and administration, three controversial threads have been moved back to the Lonely Heart subforum.

We’ve laid this out clearly and loudly in our Reddit rules, specifically

Reddit is privately owned by Nielsen. Most of our moderation team consists of volunteers who have stepped up to handle this "job." They have the authority to:

• edit post content
• change thread titles
• delete posts or threads
• move posts or threads
• lock threads
• modify your profile (removing signatures, avatars, or changing nicknames)
• delete sent or received private messages
• ban you from the platform (temporarily or permanently)
• delete your user account (this is not done at a user's request!)

Almost every single day, someone asks us to delete their account.

WE DO NOT DO THAT.

There are no exceptions, and we won't set a precedent. Occasionally, we might just clear out accounts that registered but haven't posted in ages. We're sorry, but you agreed to the terms when you signed up, and you made the choice to join the conversation. Your account and your posts WILL NOT be deleted upon request.
