I honestly think this would never have happened with Lewis Hamilton, because he’s just so incredibly meticulous about everything; he has this almost obsessive need to stay in total control and double-check every single detail with his crew. 😁

And neither Schumacher 1995 both

Both those titles were won in the second best (for Schumacher) or third best (for Prost) car of the season.

I feel like you didn't actually name a driver who won thanks to a truly dominant car or anything like that; instead, it seems like you're just talking complete nonsense. 👍
ruggedhawk20 said:Props to Mercedes. They’ve basically proven they’re the top dogs with the best car—seven seasons straight now. Honestly, the greatest feat in Formula 1 history is building a machine so dominant that even a total amateur could hop in and cruise to a win without any prep work at all.

I feel for Lewis. This whole situation just casts a massive shadow over his entire legacy.

Aside from that one back in 2008—which he basically stumbled into because his only competition was a mediocre Felipe Massa driving a subpar Ferrari.

He’ll forever be remembered as the guy whose car did all the heavy lifting for his career achievements.

It’s funny, because unlike those other champions who actually earned their titles through grit and hard work—you know, things like driving tractors, riding school buses, or even hauling septic tanks—this guy apparently just had a fast machine. 🤦

Honestly, I feel like we’re going to see all sorts of wild takes on this forum lately. Someone claiming a driver only won because of his car? Goodness gracious, give me strength!
It honestly seems like an energized George Russell really just highlights how incredibly composed Lewis Hamilton is, since he's driving at precisely the right pace to stay ahead of the game😁

And, I suppose, it also goes to show what a total disappointment of a driver Valtteri Bottas can be sometimes

He certainly drives, I suppose, but there’s just something about his style that feels a bit lackluster and lacking in real character. As for being ahead of his teammate, I honestly think that’s mostly because Carlos Sainz had such an incredibly rough start to the season.😵
I feel like Lando Norris just seems to be sliding backward with every passing season and every single race, so I guess they really ought to consider dropping him and bringing Sergio Pérez back into the seat instead.

What does a Mercedes engine in a McLaren from 2007-2013 have to do with the Mercedes V6 Power Unit from 2014 to now?

Who was actually behind the wheel for Mercedes in 2014? And whose Power Unit was sitting inside the McLaren 2014 car? Who was driving for Mercedes back in 2014?

And honestly, where was the Mercedes 2014?

😵
stormybadger8 said:Aha, so winning the first PP and a race counts as zero progress...
I guess that's just a tiny little detail that any random team on the grid could pull off easily.
🙂
Double DRS and FRIC, which have been in development since 2012, aren't important either... totally irrelevant.
And I suppose Lewis developed the motor himself during the break between the last race of 2013 and the first race of 2014, since his Twitter wasn't working so he had nothing better to do than mess around with the motor...🙂

🤦

I mean, I guess Lewis was already chasing after the Mercedes' motor even before the Mercedes team truly existed as we know it today. 😵
stormybadger8 said:Except, there aren't even many people left who actually built this Mercedes machine...
We're talking about Brawn, Rosberg, and Schumacher...

Lewis and Toto stepped into an already well-oiled machine with a pretty advanced car...
Sure, they pushed it one step further and kept it at that level for years, which creates this illusion of a "struggle"—if not against anyone else, then certainly against Bottas, who is clearly struggling hard...

Because let's be real, Russell isn't some alien living several levels above Hamilton. He didn't just jump into a car he can barely fit in and slap Bottas around without any prep...

God knows how good Lujo really is, but it's certain that Bottas is basically a walking coma.
In fact, Lewis could probably lap him by a full circuit every race, or two laps ahead of the competition if Toto actually let him...
But he never will, because Toto knows perfectly well that if they show that kind of dominance, the FIA will just rewrite the rules to nerf their wings...

If I recall correctly, those guys were the ones who actually mastered that strange little thing—what was it, a platypus or some kind of weird bird?—with that ridiculously short wheelbase. It felt more like a caricature of a car than an actual racing machine, if you ask me. 🤔

So, I guess that's what RB, MSC, and NR essentially handed down to Lewis as his legacy.

A total caricature of a car.
I suppose things might be a little less crowded around the track, which honestly sounds kind of nice 😁
Nicholas Newman2 said:😂The way things are starting out, Williams Racing might actually grab a point here.

It’s certainly possible! I mean, what an absolute spectacle it would be if Williams managed to score a point while George Russell fails to finish the race, 😁
I guess it looks like Max just slammed right into the wall for absolutely no reason at all 🙏🙏🙏
wiredfalcon2 said:Anyway, Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel both put in solid races.

But where on earth were they? What was actually going on with them? Were they even the ones driving this thing? 😬

I guess by "good race," you just mean they didn't completely mess everything up, right? 🤔
It seems like McLaren managed to clinch third place in the championship through no fault of their own, which is actually quite a lovely result if you think about it! 🤣
Alex Barnes93 said:Driver salaries don't count toward the cap.

If my previous post came across that way, then I suppose I didn't express myself very clearly, because I definitely wasn't including those salaries in the cap calculations.

Since it looks like The Bear has organized things so efficiently, they might actually have to spend a whole lot more money next year than they have in recent seasons just to hit that limit.😁
stormybadger8 said:What does the button layout on a Teddy Bear have to do with which engine is sitting in a Williams Racing car? 🙄

I wasn't saying Noup wouldn't drive...
He'd still be driving and he'd still have the best car on the grid, but he still wouldn't see a title coming his way...

Not a bit.

I suppose that’s probably why I decided to leave out that whole bit about the buttons when I was quoting him in my previous reply 😵

mellowtiger83 said:Max wins today. Bottas isn't even capable of a win anymore; maybe Russell will take it. Bottas has mentally checked out this year. He simply can't handle the pressure.

And it’s just not true that anyone could do what Russell is doing. Not a chance. He stepped into a brand-new car with a completely different button layout, an awkward driving position, smaller shoes, and so on. The balance is different, the braking points are different—everything is different compared to Williams. Everything. And he had two or three practice sessions to get used to the machine.

It is perfectly clear at this point: Russell is a better, faster driver than Bottas, and perhaps even on par with Hamilton.

So, I went ahead and used bold text just now for those folks who, well, perhaps possess more... diesel-powered engines 😁
I was recently catching up on a documentary about how Mercedes-Benz handles their marketing and team finances, specifically diving into some of those clever financial maneuvers Toto Wolff pulls off.

Watching the coverage on Sky just now actually reminded me that we’re looking at a budget cap of $145 million next year.

So, I guess if you take all that math, add it all up, and then factor in Lewis Hamilton's salary, next season might just turn into an absolute bloodbath.🥱
So, Russell is claiming he left everything out there on the track.

Honestly, I can't help but think that if Lewis Hamilton had been behind the wheel instead, he probably would have just cruised to a victory, and his post-race comments would have sounded way more like "just another day at the office" rather than "I gave it my absolute all." ☕
Alex Barnes93 said:Look, Max is hands down the best driver on the grid right now in every single way. That whole "head through a wall" thing... I mean, maybe someone would do that in a video game, but anyone who thinks he'd actually pull that stunt in real life clearly isn't watching Formula 1.

And just to set the record straight—I'm a Mercedes fan through and through when it comes to the team. As for the drivers? Honestly, I don't care who's behind the wheel as long as Mercedes is pulling in the kind of results they usually do (though definitely not this current clown show we're seeing lately) ☕

Do you mean just until Lewis Hamilton makes his comeback? I suppose he might actually be right about that.
shadowmarlin22 said:Hamilton has more followers and fans than all the other drivers combined. A zero is only fitting for the GOAT.

I can't help but get the feeling he might actually be talking about Valtteri Bottas instead of Lewis Hamilton, if I'm being honest.🤔
