Oštrić - Persecution and Banning in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Over on History, in that thread about the Black boxer in Nazi Germany, I actually shared a little thought regarding Jesse Owens.

It went something like this:

Just a tiny bit of trivia that really gets to the heart of the topic. I suppose it's worth noting that while Hitler didn't shake hands with Jesse Owens—just as he didn't shake hands with any of the other medal winners that day—he did acknowledge everyone with a Sieg Heil, including Jesse Owens.

In contrast to Hitler, who at least offered a greeting, Roosevelt never actually congratulated him, greeted him, sent a telegram, or showed any kind of recognition toward Jesse Owens, which I think really hurt him deeply.
Quote:
“Hitler didn’t snub me—it was our president who snubbed me,” he said months after the Olympics. “The president didn’t even send me a telegram.”
When you look at racism, I guess the land of the free and the brave was actually more backwards than Hitler's Germany.
Well, my post was deleted and I ended up with a 50-point penalty, with the explanation being that claiming Roosevelt was a bigger racist than Hitler constitutes "trolling."

First off—racism in the USA and how Americans treated Jesse Owens is incredibly well-documented; I mean, you could find a million articles on the subject all over the internet.

For instance:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/ra...d-jesse-owens/

Secondly, it seems like lonetrucker4 clearly just can't pick up on sarcasm.

Thirdly, I get the feeling this guy might have some pretty deep-seated biases against me.

I know you're just a classic troll and provocateur. I assume you aren't actually a supporter of Nazism, otherwise you would have come out much stronger.

Honestly, what on earth? My post wasn't provocative, it wasn't off-topic, it wasn't offensive, and there wasn't anything incorrect or improper about it at all.

And I get hit with 50 points for that?

It feels just like last time, when I got slapped with a "trolling" penalty and a ban, only to have my post pulled out and turned into its own separate thread. It's just baffling.

To me, this looks like nothing more than simple harassment and retaliation, purely because I don't see eye-to-eye with lonetrucker4 on the issue of global warming.

I'm kindly asking someone in charge—anyone who isn't lonetrucker4—to please review this penalty and the points I've been docked.

Does anyone happen to know what this error message actually means?
It keeps popping up right after I finish installing the HP software for my Canon image scanner.

Well, it looks like the installer is trying to run on Flash, and since Adobe disabled Flash at the start of the year, you're kind of stuck. I guess you'll just have to hunt around for some alternative workaround that might actually function for you.

Maybe take a quick look at this website

Actually, I don't think that's an animation at all; it looks more like some sort of textured 3D model to me. I guess if you wanted to extract all the underlying model data, you'd probably need a really specialized player just to handle it—assuming a standalone player even exists for something like this! If it doesn't, you might have to set up an entire server just to replicate the environment enough to view it properly. Honestly, I'd say just forget about it. 😬

Oh, it definitely changed! I think maybe you just can't see your own last active status when others are looking at you, even though it still shows up perfectly fine on your own profile.

WOW!!!

It’s become personal for YOU????
YOU?
Not for the guy who can't even get into his own driveway properly because some inconsiderate idiot is constantly parked there thinking they're "just stopping for a minute"...!!!!

Can I just pull up there again and wait for the cops, then demand to see the paperwork to ensure the sign was actually installed according to local ordinances, even if I risk getting slapped with a few hundred bucks in parking fines myself?

Sure you can.
Actually, it might be the best way to handle it.

If they decide to give you a proper ticket this time...

The officer probably let you off the hook the first time because you claimed it was your first offense and you were only there for "a minute." I guess he didn't want to look like one of those "out of touch cops" handing out tickets for nothing...
But if you repeat this kind of stupid, reckless behavior, don't expect any more leniency...

What should the homeowner or the person who put the sign up do in that case?

Maybe they could report you for multiple violations and have the District Attorney file charges against you for several different offenses?
And maybe, just maybe, have them seize your firearms in the process?

I've read through a million different laws and regulations, but I haven't been able to find a concrete answer. It seems like the code enforcement officer should show up and follow protocol, while the owner of the sign is responsible for their own unauthorized signage...

Did you buy your driver's license at a garage sale?
If you had actually taken a driving course, you'd probably know that you aren't allowed to block anyone's driveway, and that a tow truck will haul you away without a second thought.
That kind of entrance is also access for emergency vehicles—fire trucks, ambulances, and stuff like that...

I wouldn't worry too much about it, honestly; we were actually discussing the exact same topic before he got banned, and then he even tried creating clone accounts just to get around the ban. I guess you shouldn't fall for the same old tricks twice. Check out the user manual 😉

Grace Torres55 said:I mean, how is that actually supposed to fix my issues with Google?

Well, I suppose you probably registered that specific number with Google back when you set everything up, 🤔

The way you're trying to handle this doesn't seem to make much sense to me, honestly. If that were the case, anyone could just pop a new SIM card into their phone and somehow hijack your entire Gmail account, right?

In the end, since you haven't used that old number for verification very often, I imagine it should still work just fine if you try it.
Can't log in to my Gmail account in IT Support ·
Grace Torres55 said:I might have explained things a little poorly before; what I actually meant was that I attempted to log in using my usual desktop computer, the one I always use for everything. I only popped my new number into my old phone just to get it activated, but I haven't actually tried logging into Gmail or anything else on that device yet—mostly because I didn't want to risk messing anything up or making the situation even more complicated!

So, here is basically how everything seems to be unfolding for me:
I guess I’ll start by typing in my username.
I guess I’m still on the hunt for that password!
So, I just received this message saying my account has been blocked due to some suspicious activity, and now they're asking me to provide a mobile number so they can send over a code to unlock everything! I guess it might be legitimate, though I'm feeling a little bit uncertain about it, maybe?
I tried to enter my phone number just now, but I keep getting this frustrating error message saying my device has been used too many times for verification purposes. It’s a bit of a headscratcher because, honestly, I don't think that's even true! I haven't used it nearly that much, but for some reason, the system seems convinced otherwise. I guess there might be some kind of glitch happening on their end, or maybe I'm just hitting a limit I wasn't aware of? It's certainly a bit of a nuisance when you're just trying to get things sorted out.
I guess I’ve hit a bit of a wall here, because honestly, I can't seem to move forward with anything else at this point!
I’m actually sitting here breathing into a paper bag just to stop myself from hyperventilating, because honestly, I am just so incredibly fed up with them—may they all face some serious misfortune this upcoming holiday season! 😠

I was just thinking about how much easier life would be if we could simply revert to an old phone number whenever we felt like it! I guess it might be a bit of a project, but I've been wondering if there's actually a way to get a previous mobile number back once it's been changed. Maybe it’s worth reaching out to your service provider—perhaps someone at Verizon or AT&T—to see if that specific number is still sitting in their inventory, though I suppose it's a bit of a long shot, isn't it?
Case vibration issues in Desktops ·
I’ve actually noticed that you can run into those annoying vibrations even with a Corsair tower case, which I’m quite certain doesn't have thin or flimsy panels at all.

Once those vibrations start acting up, maybe try pressing your finger against the structural panels to figure out where they're traveling, and then perhaps you could just wedge a little bit of cardboard or something similar in there to dampen them.

wiredtrucker13 said:I managed to get the driver installed, but honestly, I could really use some step-by-step guidance from someone who can explain things like I’m a total beginner! Maybe even send some instructions over via email?

Oh boy. To be perfectly honest, my scanner is just sitting up on top of my bookshelf gathering dust right now, so I don't think I'm really in any position to walk you through the process step-by-step. I guess your best bet might be to search for a tutorial on YouTube!

wiredtrucker13 said:This scanner seems pretty straightforward enough, but my real struggle is that I’m just not quite sure what the next steps are once I actually start scanning a document. I know everything eventually ends up on the computer, but I haven't really figured out the workflow. Is there anyone kind enough to walk me through the process?

I guess you just need to install the driver and the scanner software first. From there, it’s just a matter of scanning and then saving the file. It’s actually quite simple once you get it set up!

placidtiger142 said:How on earth would I go about checking that?

To be honest, I haven't the slightest clue, since I've never actually owned a laptop with integrated graphics—I tend to steer clear of those things like the plague! 😁

Maybe you could try a quick Google search, or perhaps someone here with a bit more expertise might chime in with some helpful advice.

If I were forced to take a wild guess, I suppose you might try disabling the integrated chip through the BIOS or via the Device Manager, then uninstalling its drivers and seeing what happens.
PC issues/troubleshooting help needed in IT Support ·
You might want to double-check if your laptop is actually utilizing that dedicated graphics card you have installed. It’s entirely possible that everything is just running on the integrated graphics instead.

The Right Stuff (1983) in Movies ·
Is anyone else currently watching the series The Right Stuff?

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7423322/

The first season just dropped with eight episodes, and it follows everything leading up to that very first American flight into space by Shepard. I have to say, it seems to dive much deeper into the details from the book, and since it isn't restricted by movie censorship, you get all the raw stuff—the greed, the infidelity, the cheating, and those intense internal rivalries. It feels much more authentic that way, I guess.

As for the second season, they are supposedly planning to cover the timeline from that initial flight all the way through to the landing on The Moon.

gentlerider7 said:The reason the headline uses the word "utopia" is because we’re talking about some kind of pipe dream, right? Like, in this imaginary perfect society everyone dreams about, who on earth is actually going to show up for those grueling jobs? We aren't even trying to figure out how to fix this in the real world—because let's face it, we all know how the free market works right now—we're just debating the logic of an impossible fantasy.

Personally, I just don't think the concept of a utopia and the idea of labor can ever truly exist in the same sentence, 😁but
that's just my take!

That is exactly my point! I mean, if we actually reached a point where a surgeon’s salary was basically the same as a coal miner's, I guess we would just see a massive wave of people signing up to work in the mines.

Sam Martinez9 said:Sure. Provided you actually have enough time to go back to school for every single one of those degrees.

The real question here is defining what constitutes "dirty" work. The original poster pointed to cooking, but honestly, there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't dream of calling a kitchen a dirty environment.

Personally, I don't view any job as inherently dirty, though I suppose being raised as a woman in this society might have shaped my perspective on such things.

To me, "dirty jobs" are quite literally dirty. I mean, you can't exactly show up to work as a chimney sweep in a crisp white button-down and expect that shirt to stay spotless by the end of the shift, right? That's what I mean when I say dirty.

ruggedraven36 said:Total nonsense. Look, if we can manage to follow basic traffic laws across the entire country, why can't we handle a simple rotation rule at the national level? It’s straightforward stuff—easy to grasp, easy to accept. Of course, that’s assuming anyone actually gives a damn about fairness. If they don't, then this whole debate is just a waste of breath. You can't force someone to be decent—that should go without saying.

Well, if that's the case—and if being fair is really our top priority—then I guess we should probably start rotating through all the dream jobs, too. Personally, I think I'd be a pretty decent surgeon, or maybe a university professor, a ballerina, a theater actor, or even a pilot! 🤔

I suppose if we don't find enough people willing to take on those kinds of roles, wages for those positions will eventually start climbing, and once they hit a certain level, I imagine someone will finally decide it’s actually worth their while to jump in.
Banned? in Banned Users Corner ·
It honestly feels a bit surreal to me that I’d get flagged for "trolling," only to have that same moderator take my post and spin it off into its own dedicated thread that’s already drifted all the way down to page four.

I mean, if they really had to make a change, I suppose it would probably make more sense to just categorize it as off-topic instead.

But hey, whatever, my ban actually expires in about 45 minutes anyway, so it’s really not a huge deal, though I guess it is somewhat a matter of principle.

I suspect I only ended up getting flagged because I happen to disagree with the moderator on a few other topics, so maybe they're just feeling a little vindictive.
