This movie was a total bust. It tried to be this deep "slice of life in New York" story, but it was just a mess. There were so many plot holes and jumps in the timeline that I honestly thought I was watching some bad bootleg where half the scenes were missing. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m giving it a 5.5/10.
Like, for example?

Zachary Barrett4 said:My ex was constantly distracting me while we were watching No Country for Old Men, which made it impossible to really sink into the film, so I think I definitely need to give it another watch on my own terms.

For sure. It would be a total shame to miss out on a movie like that.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

I tried watching this thing maybe five or six times, but it’s just so incredibly stupid, pathetic, and poorly made. Honestly, the main character is so irritating that I feel like storming into the theater with a machete just to slice everything up... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I hate this movie so much.

Anyway, I'm going to calm down now.

Grace Diaz76 said:That is just incredibly naive. First, he almost breaks up with his girlfriend because she feels neglected, and then—as if she’s some kind of trophy for the friend who nearly destroyed their relationship—she invites him to a wedding. And what’s the logic there? Just because this guy gets sent to rehab because he actually needs it, and despite having money in three different major banks, he somehow doesn't have a life?
As if two guys are just going to stand there and tell each other they love each other in front of fifty people. Yeah, right.

I think you missed a few details. It wasn't him who nearly ruined the relationship; it was Paul Rudd's character. Plus, he actually helped him out with his career. And seriously, if someone has money sitting in three different Chase accounts but doesn't have a wife or kids, does that mean they don't have a life?

I've been waiting forever for this movie, and honestly, Zooey Deschanel is just incredible.🙂
Sarah Michelle Gellar in Movies ·
mistyrider36 said:Look, I know exactly when Sharon Stone started acting—she was in her early twenties. But even so, she’s got way more roles under her belt than Sarah has had so far. The difference is basically twenty years of experience. Besides, what are you... a director, an actor, a producer, or a writer? I mean, if you're actually capable of judging acting quality like that, you probably must be some big industry expert.

Oh, please. Tell me, who are movies actually made for? It’s definitely not for the critics; they're made for the people watching them. And guess what? I'm one of those people. And wouldn't you know it, I can tell good acting from bad. Do you really need some professional film critic to hold your hand and tell you what's actually worth watching?
Sarah Michelle Gellar in Movies ·
mistyrider36 said:No, absolutely not.
Sharon Stone actually had way more acting experience than Sarah when she filmed Basic Instinct. She was over 30 at the time, whereas Sarah was only 23 during Series of Wonderful Maladies. And honestly, Sharon Stone's work back then wasn't exactly groundbreaking either. Besides, you can't really say any actor is going to be mediocre forever; people said the exact same thing about plenty of stars who are at the absolute top of their game now. As for her not being pretty? That's just a matter of taste. I find tons of people unattractive that everyone else thinks are gorgeous. An actor grows with age, and their talent develops through hard work. Who knows, maybe even Emma Roberts will turn into something special. Nobody can tell for sure.

Go ahead and do a little digging into when Sharon Stone actually started acting, and you'll see that SMG definitely had more experience under her belt... The fact that she constantly looks like she's 15 and only knows how to play those specific types of roles? Well, I guess that's just how it is...

mistyrider36 said:Look, I don't pick up Teen or OK magazine anymore—I'm not ten years old.
Do you really think I'm not mature enough to judge who's a talented actor?
I've been watching acting since I was six.
I guess I might have learned a thing or two over those ten years.
And if you want to think Sarah isn't good, well, that's just your humble opinion.
In my book, she's great, and that's my take.
But honestly, I don't think either of us is in any position to be the ultimate authority here.
At the end of the day, we aren't the ones casting them in movies.
If we don't like a movie, we don't have to watch it.
But you can't take away my conviction that she's the best. Not from me.
And as for Cruel Intention... maybe you should try acting out a role like that yourself.
I mean, all the awards and nominations she pulled in for that movie and for Buffy pretty much speak for themselves.

Fair point.

Just a simple comparison. Take Sharon Stone playing that femme fatale in Basic Instinct. Compare that performance to SMG in Cruel Intention...

mistyrider36 said:I honestly feel bad for some of you. She’s one of those rare actresses in Hollywood who isn't constantly dragged through the tabloids; she actually has talent, a stable marriage, and is expecting her first child. I guess what people are really missing—the stuff that makes someone famous—is just constant partying and drugs. That’s all anyone talks about: people like Paris Hilton, who was born a regular girl with a mountain of cash, and her whole lifestyle turned her into this party girl headline magnet. Meanwhile, people who have actually achieved something through pure talent get pushed to the back pages. Personally, I think Sarah did a great job in Buffy and Series of Wonderful Maladies, and even in Scooby Doo because she plays such different roles. I'm just waiting for you guys to see her performance in Veronica Decides to Die! If it doesn't blow you away, it'll probably just be because you're being stubborn. And even if she isn't plastered all over our local news like someone from OK!, which just makes up stories anyway (for example, since Sarah is my role model, I saw an article claiming she said she had a beautiful voice and was dropping a new album, only to hear her tell the whole world in an interview months later that she'd rather not sing. That’s just one of the lies our "elite" magazines put out), it doesn't mean she isn't somebody important on the other side of the world. In America, she’s one of the most respected and talented actresses, yet our domestic industry keeps buying crap like that movie with Paris Hilton. It's no secret that the entertainment business here isn't exactly top-tier.

Wow, talk about talent in Series of Wonderful Maladies... she was brutally bad in that one... Ryan Phillippe and his wife at the time were twice as good...
And all that garbage about tabloids, what does that even have to do with acting?
Gene Hackman doesn't get dragged through the papers and he's one of the best ever...
Edward Norton doesn't get dragged through the papers and he's going to be one of the greats..
Meryl Streep doesn't get dragged through the papers...
etc etc...
SMG is an average actress and she'll probably stay that way... And honestly, she isn't even that pretty..
Maybe you should stick to reading Teen and OK! and leave judging an actor's actual ability to the rest of us...
Telepathy or just pure misery with AT&T and Nokia? in Miscellaneous ·
Look, honey, you seem a little lost here. I’ve got a $100 monthly plan and I can barely even hit that limit. I make calls and send texts whenever I feel like it without having to constantly check my usage. I don't have some unlimited deal, and honestly, I don't even know which specific plan I'm on. A ton of people around me use T-Mobile, and it's cheap for everyone.

velvetcrane57 said:I honestly think anyone trashing this movie just doesn't get humor. Seriously, half those scenes were enough to make me tear up, especially that part with the Amish guy... I mean, come on, sure, the plot might be a bit silly, but when you have characters and moments like that, you can't just sit there feeling nothing.

The Amish part was actually pretty good..

And if I don't have a sense of humor... then fine, whatever..😂

velvetcrane57 said:Every single movie you just listed is great in my book too, so I don't get how you can call Sex Drive such garbage while putting Superbad on your list!
It's like saying you hate Empire Strikes Back but think Return of the Jedi is a masterpiece!

The reason Sex Drive is trash is because it's just so incredibly cliché, especially the main guy. Honestly, it drives me crazy when the lead is this much of an idiot doing stupid stuff, all while the script tries to claim he's actually smart and decent or whatever. And that scene where his mom just bursts in at the start? Please. The whole thing is predictable, dumb, and totally played out. That definitely isn't the case with comedies made by Apatow...

But honestly, regarding The Air I Breathe, the movie is great. The plot is solid, and the performances by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Forest Whitaker are especially standout—even the critics agreed on that... there's a connection here, just watch it again and maybe it'll click for you...

The movie isn't bad, it just feels a little too sentimental for my taste.

James Lee84 said:she's such a talented, natural-looking actress😉))well, let me correct you there... hehehe

Natural looking? My grandma is natural looking, but that doesn't exactly make her a supermodel.
And honestly, you can find plenty of skinny blondes just like her everywhere you look...
I watched The Air I Breathe and it wasn't even that great; she basically just spends half the movie crying.
