Then, once you swap the processor in a year, you can pick up a 58xx when they're actually affordable, and you'll finally be able to use its power properly. But I have a feeling you'll end up just buying the new series anyway. 😉
You've got a point... and damn it... I'll probably just buy the new series. I've been psyching myself up for new cards for a year now, just waiting for them to drop. By the way, what do you think the actual improvement will be on this CPU compared to my old card?🙂
So, the new ATI card lineup is finally out... I'm thinking about picking up an HD 5850. My current setup is running an AMD Athlon 64 X2. I realize this is massive overkill and the CPU is probably way too weak... just don't start lecturing me about upgrading my processor or the whole rig, because that isn't happening until next year. For now, I guess I'm wondering how this card will actually behave with my current CPU? How much of a performance jump am I realistically looking at with an HD 5850 compared to my old GeForce 7300 LE? ☕

And what about those pirates off the coast of Somalia? Why hasn't there been a full-scale strike there? You don't see them rocking nuclear weapons either, do you?
What do you guys think?
Iraq was invaded mostly to get closer to Russia... plus, there's the oil factor... as for North Korea, maybe they aren't in any particular rush to deal with that mess.☕

And yeah, this whole thing has nothing to do with drivers 😉 for several reasons I don't feel like listing right now because I really need to get some sleep. The point is, it's not the drivers.
I've already done it three times! Three! I swapped the RAM three times and those bastards just keep handing me defective sticks...😠 And it's the same crowd at Best Buy where I bought my entire setup—computer, monitor, printer, camera, joystick, memory cards... everything. I've been a loyal customer and they still decide to screw me over with junk hardware...😠😠😠 I'm done messing around with them. I have a warranty... but what am I even supposed to say? Tell them the memory is screwing me again and show them a Memtest86+ screenshot? 🤔 Then they'll just take the stick back for "service," leave me without it for a week or two, and eventually try to hand me another dud...🙄 Maybe I'll head down there next week if I feel like dealing with their nonsense, and we'll see what they have to say...☕ Here they are... the geniuses: http://www.bestbuy.com/
So, I installed the drivers for my GeForce 7300 Le and, naturally, the drivers for this Nvidia fucking chipset, and now the PC has been running okay for maybe half an hour...
Is it possible the chipset and the RAM were just fighting each other? Maybe installing the Nvidia driver cleared up the conflict?🤔 😕
If that's actually what happened, does it mean I can't use an ATI HD 4890 card because of this chipset issue? Because without the Nvidia chipset driver, the RAM keeps messing with me and either crashes Windows 7 or freezes everything...
Basically, will there be a conflict if I install the Nvidia drivers for the chipset and then install the ATI drivers for the HD 4890? If it's going to cause trouble, I'd rather just grab a GTX 275 right away; even if it's more expensive, at least I won't have these issues with the chipset, drivers, and RAM....🤷
Here’s what the Memtest86+ results look like... It just stopped right here....
Also, when I first installed these RAM sticks, they gave me the same trouble they're giving me now; after a few restarts they supposedly "worked," but then I tried installing Windows 7 yesterday and ran into the exact same mess, except now they won't work at all...👎
By the way, I'm typing this from Windows 7 in Safe Mode, and it isn't crashing or freezing... I can't even adjust anything in the BIOS regarding the memory, so maybe there's some major issue with Windows 7???
Is anyone else running into issues with win 7 x64 on 4 GB of RAM? The system just freezes... maybe after a few minutes of use, or sometimes even right at startup. It happens constantly. I checked the memory usage and it seems fine, and it runs perfectly normally with 1GB, 2GB, or even 2.5GB. But once I hit 4GB, everything just locks up—even during the win 7 installation itself.😕🤷
It’s me again... I stumbled upon an ad where someone is selling a GTX 285 for $633. They claim it still has two years of warranty left through Best Buy and that the card is perfectly functional...
I could use some input... should I pull the trigger on this one, or just grab a weaker GTX 275 from a local shop so I know I'm the first one to touch it and nobody's messed with the hardware?
Any advice would be appreciated... what kind of experiences have you all had buying GPUs through online classifieds? 🙂
Brenda Cooper3 said:So I downloaded Windows 7 from the Microsoft site. Nothing special, really. I was never particularly impressed by these visual flourishes anyway. It feels much the same, just the same basic logic as Windows XP. It keeps asking for permission every time you try to install something. Honestly, I think XP was much cleaner. Maybe it’s just habit, but I have my doubts about these newer OSs. I suppose Microsoft only releases them to keep people interested. Otherwise, we’d all just stick with XP and never buy their new stuff—like Vista or this Windows 7. Some might even jump over to Linux once they get tired of Windows. I don't know. People always gravitate toward something new, but that doesn't mean it's actually better than what came before. I'd give XP an 8/10, but Windows 7 is more like a 6/10 for me.
😂 It isn't all about aesthetics... if the Aero look bothers you, just turn it off... the real issue is what's under the hood...☕
upgrade: Windows 7 Home Premium: $119.99 Windows 7 Professional: $199.99 Windows 7 Ultimate: $219.99
retail: Windows 7 Home Premium: $199.99 Windows 7 Professional: $299.99 Windows 7 Ultimate: $319.99
And we all know what the vast majority of people on this forum will actually pay... $0 😂🤣
I know this is off-topic, so please don't delete my post... does anyone here have a GTX 275??? Or maybe an HD4890??? I honestly can't decide which one to get... one day I want one, the next day I want the other...😁 I just can't seem to commit to a single choice once and for all.😁

Maybe. $117Maybe the Silverstone Strider 500 w. I guess. $153The first two options have more punch, but you probably won't go wrong with any of them. They all seem to have enough power for your current rig, and likely for whatever you build next, I guess.
If you're looking for a card, maybe go with the GTX 275. I guess. 🙂 I guess even if that processor is way too weak for it, you really should have at least an Intel clocked at 3GHz for something like this. Maybe. 🙂 Let's say we're looking at an E5200. 🙂
I suppose I know my processor is just too weak...😢 If I decide to go with one of those newer, more powerful processors, I'd probably have to swap out the motherboard too. That means the board, the CPU, the GPU, and the power supply... basically the entire rig. Maybe.🙂 I suppose I'll just settle for a new graphics card for now... regardless of how it performs, it'll probably run at least five times better than what I'm stuck with currently.🙂
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU: DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2000 MHz 3800+ Motherboard: Lenovo ThinkCentre A60 Chipset: Nvidia GeForce 6100, AMD Hammer System Memory: 4096 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM) GPU: Nvidia GeForce 7300 Le (128 MB)
I'm currently running at 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz, though I suppose a new monitor might show up eventually... The power supply is also too weak. I need a replacement... if anyone knows of a decent one for around $167?? 🤔
I'm torn between the GTX 275 and the HD 4890. Which one is actually better? Which should I go with? I guess I'll spend up to $533 on the card...☕
Steven White96 said:I installed this week's RC build, and I'm running into an issue. I have three drives—one PATA and two SATA—but one of the SATA drives isn't showing up. It shows up in the BIOS, but not in Windows. Any ideas?
Maybe check the Device Manager to see if the drive is even listed there... if it is, you might just need to go into Disk Management and manually assign it a drive letter, like D:, to get it to show up in File Explorer.☕
