Windows installation and Serial ATA issues in Software ·
First off, tell me which motherboard you're running and what kind of drive we're talking about—PATA or SATA? Also, is the drive plugged directly into the motherboard controller or some separate PCI controller?

That's because Alcohol has way better support for image files than Nero does. Personally, I use both—Nero for burning discs and Alcohol for handling the images.

Any antivirus works fine as long as you actually bother to run updates every single day. 🙂 My best advice? Just watch where you’re clicking and stop opening sketchy emails. Honestly, if you’re running an older machine, the only thing that really matters is which software won't tank your performance. That's basically it.

If you're broke or just cheap like me, grab a free version and call it a day. But if you're convinced a paid license offers better protection, then go ahead and drop those $83, plus whatever $50 it costs annually to renew. You'll sleep better. It's not like it's breaking the bank or anything.

What do you mean it doesn't? McAfee and all those other AV programs definitely offer a free month-long trial. It works just like the paid version, so you aren't missing out on any features, at least for those first 30 days. Just download it, test it out, and then decide if paying for McAfee or something else is actually worth your money.

I spent half a year cycling through different AV programs on my rig before finally realizing I was just wasting money on a license when the free versions perform just as well.

It's all the same crap. I've cycled through trial versions of everything mentioned above just to end up ditching them for free antivirus programs. Right now, I'm testing out Norton, and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

If I actually had to pick one, I’d probably go with McAfee, specifically that "mid-tier" Cybersecurity version. My only real gripe is that it eats up a lot of resources. If you're running an older machine—something under 2 GHz with less than 512 MB of RAM—you might be better off grabbing McAfee, which stays practically invisible.

You probably have this: Virtual Dub 1.4.13, not the MOD version.

No comment. Not sure how or why it isn't working for you, but it doesn't matter. You can do the exact same thing with the standard version.

So, you open the movie (File -> Open, click the file you want, and hit Open)

Let's say you want to strip out the entire audio track:

Highlight the section in the scroll bar where you want the audio removed. Just hold Shift and use the left and right arrows. Once you reach the starting point, hit HOME. Scroll further until you reach the end point and hit END. If you want to strip the audio from the whole movie, you don't even need to highlight anything.

Alright, once you've highlighted it, go here:

Audio -> No Audio & Direct Stream Copy

Video -> Direct Stream Copy

File -> Save As -> and type in whatever filename you want

When it finishes, your new video file will be sitting in a folder, just without any sound.

I've got that same DVD at home. Someone ripped it for me once and yeah, it’s a total mess. What trips me out is that the picture and audio are actually great. Usually, those DVDs you grab at a gas station have crappy video and garbage sound. Still, I'd much rather have the latest Disney release for the US market with English subtitles.

The translations aren't even right most of the time, and don't even get me started on the dubbing. 👎

Yeah, it is. He took a lot of stuff and transformed it his way. I'll check if I have the book on a drive somewhere and download it.

Howl is definitely an innocent little story where Hayao shows off once again why he's a master of animation and imagination. And man, the way the Castle was designed 🙏 It's like he was tripping while he was drawing it. 😂

Same here. That scene with Chihiro is a straight-up masterpiece. But Howl's is pretty solid too—fairytale vibes but stays serious. I actually saw it in a theater here about two years ago when they had it playing on Broadway. Still can't believe they actually released it. A friend told me you can grab the DVD at a local drugstore or something now.

Yeah, I read the book. It didn't hit the same. Pretty sure you can just find a download for it on a torrent site.

I checked out the latest one, Spirited Away—wait, no, Tales from Earthsea. Wasn't great. 👎 But that was made by the son, not the legend Hayao Miyazaki himself.

Why bother? You can just export the audio directly from Premiere. It works whether the source is already an MP3 or if you need it as a WAV. Some people really love making things harder than they need to be.

Stop talking nonsense. How can you not find it? You've got Netflix right there at the top between Video and Settings. Either you're blind or you just can't read.

Look, I’ve been using Adobe Premiere Mod 1.5.10 for years and honestly, I’d tell you to do the same. If there’s a newer version out, go for it, but this one has never let me down.

Actually, looking at it now, there's some kind of build 2 version available, so you might want to just grab that instead.

Here's the PremiereMod homepage:

Just download the software along with all its plugins. Obviously, if you want anything to actually work in PremiereMod, you need to have the right codecs installed for whatever video you're trying to encode or mess around with.

Anyway, once you fire up PremiereMod, just hit File -> open video file and pick whatever you're working on.

Once that's loaded, just follow what I mentioned earlier under
Streams.
😁As for me, I think I'll download this latest build just to see what the deal is.

So, you just open up an AVI

Streams -> Stream list

A window pops up showing every single stream packed into that AVI. Just hit "Add" and pick the audio track you actually want to use.

Obviously, you've gotta set that old audio

to Disable or just kill it entirely. After that, go to File -> Save as -> give it a name, and make sure you select Direct stream Copy under the video options when you save.

Man, I think Photoshop might have some kind of brochure template built-in, but honestly, I can't be 100% sure.

I remember helping a buddy out with some flyers once; he was doing all sorts of stuff in Photoshop. Now, whether he used a different program for the actual layout or just stuck to Photoshop entirely... I don't really recall.

Thought I was the only freak doing that. 😬

But they really messed everything up lately by splitting messages into two texts once you hit a certain character count. It used to split them too, but they'd still only charge you for one message instead of two.

Is there a single program that monitors all temperatures? in Software ·
I used to run MBM (Motherboard monitor) back in the day. I think it could track pretty much everything, but honestly, I can't say for sure. Just Google it and see if it still does what you need.
