If you're focusing solely on making female friends, it might be a bit more of an uphill battle. Generally speaking, women tend to have a packed schedule with a ton of activities to fill their day.

Let's just move past Anderson and Mile already; honestly, expectations aren't exactly sky-high anyway.

Even five years after my first watch, I’m still scratching my head—who was actually the villain here? Was it the Japanese person, the woman, or the Shaman? There's even a theory floating around that the Japanese person and the woman were actually working together.
What's the secret to a perfect pizza? in Food & Drink ·
You can definitely whip up a killer pizza in your own oven at home—honestly, it'll probably beat 90% of the local pizza joints. Mine usually turns out a bit thicker and richer, but since I stick to high-quality ingredients, a single slice is enough to keep me full for the rest of the night. I like to add the sir right toward the end of the bake to make it even better.

Am I an alcoholic? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Comparing this to heroin isn't quite the best analogy. Heroin has a much more intense "kick," and the withdrawal process hits differently than alcohol, which has such a massive spectrum of dependency. Heroin addiction is pretty binary—much like how a woman can't be "slightly pregnant." An addict has to rely on methadone and go through a very slow recovery process, similar to how an alcoholic can't just quit by simply changing their habits or mindset. Most people who drink regularly are dealing with a psychological dependency. Very few people actually stop at two drinks on a Saturday night without feeling that pull for a third.

Most people are problematic consumers. If you're shaking without a drink and going through withdrawal is a health risk, then you’re an alcoholic.

I remember catching a documentary on National Geographic—maybe it was Brain Games or something similar—where they discussed a specific psychological phenomenon

The scenario was this: a man, perhaps incapacitated by illness or intoxication, is lying on the pavement in a busy metropolitan area. Despite being clearly in distress, passersby simply walk past without intervening, each individual operating under the unspoken assumption that someone else will step up to help.

Does anyone here recognize this concept, and does anyone know the official name for this syndrome?

If a friend is in trouble, lend a hand, but try to teach them how to handle things themselves next time. If you find yourself constantly playing the savior for the same group of people, you aren't going anywhere with them. They either need to learn how to dig themselves out of the holes they fall into—which, let's face it, is usually their own fault—or they'll just fail. Honestly, it's better to let them hit rock bottom than to let them drag you down with them.

It feels almost impossible these days to avoid being taken advantage of. Even if you're a genuinely decent person, you're bound to run into a manipulator at some point. Whether you're a "nice guy" or a "good guy," you'll encounter people who will exploit your kindness, and you'll have to decide how to handle them moving forward. Manipulators tend to gravitate toward empathetic people.
As soon as you spot someone like that, you should probably cut them out of your life. Living with those types of people is like holding onto a balloon full of garbage—eventually, it's going to pop. Don't let them start blowing up a new 🤣 once that happens. I don't know how else to put it without sounding a bit crazy 😵.

Personally, the worst kind of people are those who always expect something in return. Some people allow themselves to fall into that trap, but I believe you don't owe anyone anything indefinitely, even if they did save your life. You still have to judge their character for what it is.
Like the old saying goes: "A true friend isn't the one who helps you, but the one who won't let you down."

I've learned the hard way that this is absolutely true. If you're always available, always ready to jump in, and constantly at everyone's beck and call, people start taking you for granted. They stop seeing you as an equal. Honestly? I'd say it's better to cool things down a bit.

How to be a good person without being a doormat in Psychology ·

I’m finding myself using that approach more often lately. I lead with tolerance and respect, and just hold that position until someone proves they don't deserve it. We live in a world where you really have to watch yourself—you even have to dose out your kindness. Take a friend of mine, for example. He spends way too much time chasing after certain crowds who clearly aren't interested in including him, and he's starting to take everything for granted.

Why was he sticking his finger in there? A digital exam should be performed strictly by a doctor. It’s most likely just hemorrhoids, though parasites are a possibility too.

The thing is, avoiding them isn't always easy. In most cases, anyway. I had this one guy constantly hanging around my place, playing video games—all on my dime because he was riding my old reputation. When I politely let him know that wasn't happening anymore, he’d still show up at my door unannounced, driven by nothing but his own selfish needs. Of course, whenever he was hosting BBQs for his new crowd, I wasn't even a thought.👎

I recall seeing some data suggesting we share about 98% of our DNA with bonobos—maybe even more...

There are different ways to crunch those numbers. Even if the gap is just 2%, on a genetic level, that's still massive. But hey, if certain people want to act like primates, be my guest.
