Paul Thompson3 said:I remember seeing some guy online—someone with a pretty messed up home life—saying, "I always say, who needs enemies when you've got family?"🤣

Well, listen, you can never really know what kind of situation someone is dealing with regarding their own family... 😳 😛

You make a valid point @Nicholas Gonzalez8. Keeping a journal could be a worthwhile endeavor... 🙂

There are certain things you can only share with true friends—not just anyone, but those few people you trust implicitly. 😉

Pizantrofobija is essentially the fear of placing one's faith in others.

I find myself equally terrified of that possibility. 😳 😳

And honestly, isn't it better to just make a mistake than to live in constant hesitation— wondering what might have happened if you had actually taken the leap??? That sense of— what could have been—is incredibly corrosive to the spirit. 😳 😳
Do you guys actually do this...? in Miscellaneous ·

And do you lick the edge of the cup too?

I lick absolutely everything. 😳 😲

On a few different occasions, they haven't bothered to get back to me at all. I suppose I was just lucky... 😳 🤷

What is this even supposed to mean??? 😳 🤷

I wasn't being sarcastic.

steelseal21 said:We basically tailor our likes and dislikes based on what we've dealt with in the past. It’s simple psychology. If you had a run-in with someone who had a particularly hooked nose, you’re probably going to find people with that same look off-putting down the road...

That’s an interesting perspective; I hadn't considered it quite that way. 😳 😵

That is exactly how it should be; stay true to yourself. 😛 😉

There are times when I just lose it. I get suspicious, demanding, and insanely jealous with my partner. I end up sabotaging my own shot at exactly what I want: a relationship full of actual love. I become my own worst enemy by chasing after what I feel like I'm owed and trying to force it to happen.
Everyone wants love, sure, but why does it have to be this freaking hard?
Some days I feel strong and steady, but then some random trigger hits and my whole system just collapses.
Then I start clawing for more love, begging for more proof that my partner cares, and of course, that's exactly when they pull away.
I need to break this cycle because it's draining the life out of me and keeping me stuck.
Emotions carry this terrifying amount of energy, but my therapist seems totally hesitant to actually dive into it with me.

Yes, it is simply that difficult. It is just... obviously, it has to be this way. I mean, how many times have people on this forum written about having a family, friends, or a partner, yet they still feel completely emotionally hollow? Like, despite all that, it feels as though none of it actually exists... 😳 😵

It is commendable that you intend to make these changes. However, one must consider why you expect someone else to fill that void within you... You must cultivate that sense of self-worth personally; you have to truly love yourself before anyone else can possibly do the same. This process begins internally. It is a matter of taking things one step at a time. For instance, simply reducing those constant doubts regarding your partner might be a starting point. Perhaps try agreeing when he wants to head out with his friends—allow him that space a few times so he can actually see that you trust him. It should be clear to you that if this behavior persists, you will only drive him away. No one enjoys feeling suffocated... 😵 😵

Tell me, have you perhaps heard any rumors that your boyfriend was unfaithful to his ex? If you haven't, there really is no reason to panic... 🙂 😉

The less you obsess over how your parents treated you, the better—because, at the end of the day, you can't change the past. You just have to turn a new leaf and move forward... 😳 😵

I was exactly the same way until I graduated high school. Honestly, when both parents are working full-time, most kids don't really get that chance to bond deeply; instead, you end up being raised by grandparents. It sounds like your father probably grew up in a household where affection wasn't exactly expressed, and in an attempt to compensate for what he missed out on, he ended up projecting that jealousy toward you kids. He was likely just searching for someone to love him and show him the warmth he never had, which is perfectly logical... after all, it's a basic human need. 🙂 😉
