Hyenas (1992) in Movies ·
Probably the first movie from West Africa I've actually sat down to watch 😁

I wouldn't say I was blown away, but it was definitely interesting! Beyond the main plot about romance and a personal vendetta, there’s this really sharp critique of colonialism and consumerism in developing nations...

I have to admit, it caught me a bit off guard, but honestly? It’s great to see these kinds of themes being explored on screen now 👍

Does this sound like Patti Smith singing a Nirvana track to anyone else? 😁

We don't have a tie. I mean, we aren't counting clone voting as anything more than one single vote, especially since this poll is totally public 😁

So, it's official: PJ Harvey's next album is dropping next week 🎉 Fire When Ready, Lisa Davis46 👍

I can't extend this one. I can only push it out for another 24 hours. Honestly, I could probably just go in and manually close it out at midnight, but who knows if I'll actually be awake by then... 😛

Lisa Davis46, you've got until 11:04 PM. Just sayin'... 😛

I don't think I've ever felt tension quite like this... even during those intense overtime periods back at the last World Cup ☕

Look, I’ve been spinning PJ Harvey lately, but honestly, maybe we should leave the deep dive to whoever actually picked her. As for starting this thread... whenever you get around to it! Tomorrow during the day would be perfect... 😉 Just make sure to cast your vote first, before she makes a run for it 😬

I don't think we're actually going to open three different threads for Album of the Week... two was already pushing it, honestly! 🙂Go ahead and cast your vote for your favorite, though. Who knows? Maybe yours will end up taking the crown!

Added 😉

We’re getting so close to the end of the survey! If you haven't jumped in yet, please do it now before the deadline hits 😉

Also, honestly? Having this many suggestions might actually be a bit much... so I'm thinking we should cap it at five max. And hey, it might be easier if we don't submit them ahead of time—let's just see how things look on Thursday and decide right then and there.

Solid titles, for sure, but what are we actually listening to? 🙂 We're voting in the poll right now.

And hey, way more suggestions this time compared to last week! I'm really hoping that momentum carries over into even more activity for the next one... 😉

Kiss me, love me
stick a needle in my heart
but when I’m begging you
just leave me alone...

Open floor for suggestions! So far we've officially passed on Finn and Dead Kennedys & Jello Biafra.

Vancha mentioned earlier that she might want to nominate Harvey Pitt, but I'll let her weigh in on that first.

As for me, here's my pick: Kyuss - ...And the Circus Leaves Town

What about you guys? What are you thinking?

Season three of Twin Peaks really leaned into the music, didn't it? They threw in these tracks that felt like little Easter eggs for the long-time fans, while others seemed to weave the melody right into the plot itself... plus a bunch of fresh, indie bands that you might not have heard of yet.

There's one song that just stuck in my head so hard I find myself pacing around my living room with headphones on just to feel it. It’s that classic dream pop vibe—you know, that hazy, ethereal stuff that goes hand-in-hand with that whole weird, moody scene where everyone looks like they need a serious haircut 😬:

Au Revoir Simone - A Violent Yet Flammable World

Oceans shape the sides
Touching down in the spaces
Soaking from a warm goodbye

An early rise offers kindly
Tonight I sleep to dream
Of a place that's calling me
It is always just a dream
Still I cannot forget what I have seen

The crowd's hard to believe
At their faces I'm looking
But your feet I'm following
In soft steps on a path the way you lead

I don't want to lose myself
It's a whisper
It's a funny thing
We fold like icicles on paper shelves
It's a pity to appear this way

You're flying when your foreign eyes
Trace the heights of the city
Steaming
With rocks and clouds we breathe
Violent skies
A shock to my own body
Speech is wild
Alive sacred and sounding
Wild
From across and beyond, oh far beyond

I don't want to lose myself
It's a whisper
It's a funny thing
We fold like icicles on paper shelves
It's a pity to appear this way

Hold, hold, hold on
I swear I saw it somewhere
Waving, wading, one, two, three, above the wakes that follow
Hold, hold, hold on
I swear I saw it somewhere
Waving, wading, one, two, three, above the wakes that follow

I don't want to lose myself
Tonight I sleep to dream of a place that's calling me
It's a whisper
It is always just a dream
It's a funny thing
Still I cannot forget what I have seen
We fold like icicles on paper shelves
With rocks and clouds we breathe, a shock to my own body
It's a pity
Alive sacred and sounding
To appear this way
From across and beyond, oh far beyond

Can I nominate this to start a new thread? I mean, sure, everyone knows Dead Kennedys and Jello Biafra... but does everyone know about this absolutely stunning collaboration?!

I definitely do! I'll make a note for Friday...😁
Unstoppable (1985) in Movies ·
A snowbound train, American style😁 (well, if you follow the script Akira Kurosawa originally wrote and wanted to direct as his big color debut)...

The movie is total quality stuff. Solid story, great acting—especially Voight—and everything else just hits those genre standards perfectly for that era.

And man, oh man... is that really Danny Trejo's very first role?🙏

I'm still totally feeling Folklore 😁

Of course! No rules here at all... 🙂 Mind if I jot this down for the next poll? 😁

Honestly, I dig the whole album. Their music videos are a little goofy and don't quite match the vibe of the songs for me, but hey, that’s just their style lately... 😁

That one track is a total standout for me because of the chorus: Word to the Wise

Casey Flores said:I had no clue there was already a thread like this! But hey, if that's the case, what’s the point of having one where people just drop lyrics and call it a day? 🤣

The reason I started my other thread was pretty simple—sometimes I just want to look up what a song actually means or share how a certain track makes me feel... you know, those little vibes and experiences...

But this specific thread feels different. It's more about that polished, poetic songwriting... the kind where you catch a clever line that makes you go, "Wait, I need to hear that whole song!" Even if I wasn't replying directly to someone, there have been plenty of posts here that caught my eye and made me hit play.

We can totally chat about it—actually, it's better if we do!—but don't feel pressured if you've got nothing to add. Though, honestly, a little feedback is always nice to hear...

Do you have any favorite songwriters or specific lyrics that you think are absolute masterpieces? Maybe someone else will jump in on your picks too! 😉

Casey Flores said:Honestly, I was just about to say... this whole thread feels a little pointless if we’re all just dropping lyrics here without any actual context! Like, why did you pick that specific song? What does the message actually mean to you personally? Or what does it represent in your life? It's way more fun when we actually talk about it...

There’s actually already a dedicated thread just for this... check it out! So, I was just sitting here thinking about how much a song can actually change your whole mood... you know? Like, one minute you’re just cruising along, and then that one specific melody hits and suddenly everything feels different. It's wild! I've been diving deep into the "why" behind some lyrics lately. Is it just catchy noise, or is there some deep, soul-searching message buried under the beat? Sometimes it feels like the songwriter is reading your mind... or maybe they just lived through the exact same messy breakup or crazy triumph that you did. It makes you feel less alone, I guess. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it again! Haha... anyway, what do you guys think? Does the meaning matter more than the vibe, or is a good beat enough to carry the day? I'm curious...
So, since this one was actually picked as the Album of the Week, I figured I’d bring some of those good vibes over here too! Honestly, my absolute favorite track from them has to be...

Oh man, I was just spinning Porcupine Tree’s "Trains" on vinyl and... wow. Just wow. There is something about that build-up that hits different when you're just sitting there in your living room, staring at nothing, letting the music take over. It starts out so moody and atmospheric, almost like a rainy afternoon in Seattle or something, and then—boom!—it just evolves. It’s one of those tracks where you can tell Steven Wilson really poured his soul into the layers. It doesn't rush you, you know? It just kind of pulls you along on this slow, hypnotic journey before everything hits. I could listen to that progression on loop for hours and never get bored. It's pure magic... seriously...

Caught a glimpse of a train set and some matches tucked right under the window blind! Just a little sneak peek... oh man...
The tracks just glisten under the sun, winding through the landscape like a silver ribbon... honestly, it's such a beautiful sight! Just watching those rails curve and contour against the horizon... makes you want to just sit there and soak it all in... what a view...
And let me tell you, I've definitely caught that specific sound coming from my cousin's bedroom before...!
That heavy hiss of air from the brakes at the Amtrak station... man, there’s just something about it! It always gets me pumped up for a trip. You stand there on the platform, hearing that steam release, and you just know things are moving! It’s like the whole world is waking up for an adventure... definitely one of my favorite sounds.

Man, those summer days just seem to vanish right before your eyes... one minute you're firing up the grill and the next, everything is shifting! It happens every single year... just slips right through your fingers...

So, picture this... a sixty-ton angel just comes crashing down from the sky right onto the pavement! Can you even imagine? Just a massive, heavenly weight hitting the ground... absolute chaos! It’s like something straight out of a blockbuster movie or a wild dream you have after too much espresso... I mean, the sheer impact alone... wow...
Just a heap of scrap metal sitting there... then suddenly, everything just turns into this gorgeous, glowing blur!
Scars all over the countryside... that hot, heavy summer heat... and then there’s her. Just everything hitting at once...
Man, summer always seems to be slipping right through my fingers... one minute you're firing up the grill in July, and the next, you're wondering where the sunshine went! It happens every single year... just blinks and it's gone...
I just need some advice... how do I actually make it stick? Like, how do you make a good thing stay put instead of just slipping through your fingers? I've been trying everything! ...

When I hear that engine roar past... man, it just gets me every single time! There’s something about that raw power, you know? It hits you right in the chest. Makes me want to jump in my car and just head out toward the Rockies without a second thought... just drive until the gas runs out! Such a rush...
I am sending you a huge, giant hug!
Finally, that annoying hissing sound is dying down... what a relief!
Man, I really hit the jackpot today! Talk about being on a roll... everything is just clicking!

Once night starts falling around here...
Wait, hold on... you're actually tying me up?! Seriously?! Haha, wow... okay... I didn't see that coming! This is getting wild... totally unexpected... anyway...
I am absolutely head over heels... honestly, I think I might actually die from all this love! It’s just too much!
It’s all good... really! No worries at all...
Sunshine (2007) in Movies ·
If you take elements from Kubrick's Odyssey, Tarkovsky's Solaris, and Alien, and just toss them all into a blender, you end up with this... high-tech, overstimulated mess ☕ that’s visually exhausting with all that flashing lights and over-the-top effects (and hey, I'm clearly not the only one feeling it). It feels like everything is there, yet nothing is substantial enough to actually sink your teeth into. Instead of finding its own voice, it just tries too hard to act original by copying various sci-fi tropes. Okay, look, the cast is mostly solid, but the execution just isn't quite hitting the mark for me...
