Hey.
First time Iβm actually skipping Coachella!
The lineup is a total joke. Someone mentioned what they'd pay for $100. Seriously, how did they used to pull in names like Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Alice in Chains, or Anthrax for the same damn money? These days bands live off touring because nobody buys CDs anymore, so either find better sponsors or fix this mess.
What pisses me off most is how much the organizers are lowballing us. What kind of bullshit is it where only two bands are even hitting New York City? Put in some actual effort, set up genre nights, and bring in other acts within that same budget. Like, seriously, Guns N' Roses?
Are you telling me they can't book PJ Harvey or Garbageβwho are out on tour right nowβfor the same cash they're paying Franz Ferdinand?
Just bring in The Stone Roses and bump the ticket price to $350 or whatever, $133.
People aren't stupid. Build a lineup that draws crowds from all over the country and abroad; a festival is more than just what happens on stage.
I remember those early festivals at Central Parkβabsolute madness. You'd grab tickets instantly and the whole crew would show up. I used to go just to be front row for Happy Mondays, but now? I couldn't give a damn about Franz or those canceled sets by The Cranberries.
My whole old crew, the people Iβve spent years tearing it up with, have all given up on this. Thereβs no hype anymore, no counting down the days. For who?
I'm pissed as hell. They've ruined the hangouts, the vibe, and the shows themselves.
What am I supposed to do? Jump around to the same bands I've seen a thousand times like I was seeing Nick Cave for the first time? Even the rain couldn't ruin it back then.
The last decent ones were The Prodigy and Moby; they actually surprised me even though I wasn't expecting much. It was okay, mostly just because of the people I was with. But then American Idol shows up as a headlinerπ€·. Thatβs when things started smelling rotten.
Now what? Itβs such a waste because everything else was great. Huge crowds, killer atmosphere, awesome music, a sea of people flowing in by 3 or 4 in the afternoon... then they just blew the whole thing.
They might as well stop doing it altogether because compared to how it used to be, this is a joke. They're insulting the fans. And I doubt it's even about the money. There are so many bands available for cheap that this is just embarrassing. They've flushed all those years we spent building this up right down the toilet.
I'll say it again: the worst part is how they underestimate us and treat us like idiots. Either change the management and the talent buyers because they clearly have no clue what they're doing, or just cancel the whole thing. This is a farce. We could have had a festival people talked about for years, something people would travel across the country for. Coachella is trash now.
Raise the prices if you have to, but actually deliver something. Personally, I'd rather drop my cash on a three-day trip to the beach. At least it used to feel like that.
I'm fuming π, and I'm still dealing with these 503 and 504 errors π
