Ugh, yeah, my bad... I didn't even think about that...
I guess I totally botched how I set this whole thing up here.
Usually, when everything is lined up in parallel rows, I can just whip up a sort in no time—you know, just highlight the columns I'm pulling data from and call it a day.
But this time, the table with the totals is sitting right underneath all that, so I'm thinking there's no way to sort it that way.
The multiple selection function isn't cutting it, and if I try to grab everything in one big selection, I'll end up dragging along a bunch of stuff I definitely don't want moved, which means 😁
I'm gonna have to go with that alternative approach you suggested instead. 😁

Rebecca Phillips57 said:Look, if you've got names in Column A and then just a bunch of identical values generated by formulas in Column B... yeah, there's nothing to sort. If the content in those cells is exactly the same, sorting isn't gonna do anything. Period.

That’s why you gotta highlight the cells you're pulling data from before you hit sort—that "select table" thing isn't just for show... .............................................

EDIT: Here’s another way to handle this—it's basically just a workaround if you want to do it manually. Just do a copy + Paste Special and only paste the values. You’ll end up with regular numbers, but yeah, you lose all that automation. 😉

You speak well. 😉

When it comes to automation, we’re basically just walking through the steps manually. Selecting and sorting? It’s all the same. Copying, hitting a new Sheet, then using Paste Special > Values onto that new Sheet gets you the exact same result.

Honestly, I’m a bit baffled that there isn't a straightforward option—like sorting by evaluated value 🤔

I can't really dig into the files right this second, but regardless of what I was thinking at the time, I can't recall if I sorted based on columns containing calculated results or just the raw data... and was I even using Microsoft Excel, Open / LibreOffice, or something else entirely 🤷
Again, my request is pretty basic, so I'm left wondering if there's some setting within Excel itself that handles how everything gets sorted 🤔

Maybe someone who has spent more time digging through this will chime in; it seems almost unbelievable that there isn't a logical way to do this.

Again, my request is perfectly logical, so I'm left wondering if there is some setting within Excel itself that handles sorting this way. 🤔

Perhaps someone who has spent more time digging into this will chime in; it seems highly unlikely that there isn't a sensible way to do it.

In the old version of Word 2003, this works perfectly fine.
Why doesn't it work in the newer versions? 🙄

Or have I misunderstood the situation entirely?

EDIT: Isn't what Kyle Johnson2 wrote actually a way to sort it? Specifically, by a column that sorts based on the value, whether it's a formula result or not?

I’m running into a problem I just can't seem to fix, and I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. It's about copying data from Excel over to Word. I have this specific table I need to move, and until a few days ago, the formatting worked perfectly... it would look exactly the same in Word as it does in Excel.
But now, for some reason, it breaks the first column into two rows. I end up having to manually resize all the columns every single time... I can eventually get it looking somewhat decent again, but it's such a huge waste of time since I have to copy and paste this constantly.
Here is what's happening:

Did you perhaps increase the left and right margins in Word?

Not really. Maybe try adjusting the margins so there’s actually some breathing room between the edge of the table and the page border...
I honestly have no clue. I even tried resetting everything back to the default settings, but nothing seems to work...

I have no idea. I even tried resetting everything to default settings, but nothing helps.

I am still stuck using ancient versions of Windows, Excel, and Word 2003, so I can't say for certain how things behave on the newer software.

But consider this: did you change your pasting method? Perhaps you used to paste it as an image, but now you are inserting it as an object or something similar?

Look, from what I can see, you’re splitting the row instead of the column. That's a mess.
Try this instead: Copy your table over in Excel, then go into Word, hit EDIT, choose Paste Special, check the box for Microsoft Excel ....Object, and hit OK. If you actually want to move that table around once it's there, just left-click it to select it, right-click, hit Format Object, go to Layout, and set it to Tight. You'll see a little crosshair icon appear, and then you can drag it wherever you damn well please. Works perfectly fine on my version of Word 2003.

Just widen those columns in Excel before you try copying. Make them way wider than you actually need them to be.

Hey there! 🙂

...So, I've got a bit of a situation involving Word...
Does anyone actually know—and I mean really know—how I can take a specific style I’ve spent all this time perfecting in one document and somehow apply it to every single new document I create moving forward?
(...And before you suggest it, no, I don't want to just use that original document as some sort of template for everything else I work on...)

Just set it up in your options/settings... what version of Word are you running?

Hey, so I whipped something up in Word and now I’m stuck. How do I actually get this thing out of Word and into a different format? Like, can I turn it into a JPG or something else entirely?

Seriously, I'm in a massive rush here. Help a guy out!

Just hit print screen and paste it into Photoshop, Paint, or whatever else you've got open... simple as that.
You can just copy and paste it straight into Photoshop and save it as a .jpg. Simple as that.

I actually have some screenshots and everything, but I’ll probably need to mess around with Photoshop. I'm about to download it now, so we'll see if it does the trick.

The "copy and paste" thing isn't working out because when I try to move stuff over to Paint, half my text gets cut off by the Word page margins... so yeah, it's a bit of a mess.

But what am I supposed to do with that? Please help! I need to run this over to the print shop, but they won't take PDFs—it has to be a JPEG.

Just upload the Word document using the "browse" button. Once it's uploaded, go to option two and pick whatever format you need (looks like you're looking for a JPG). Hit convert, and then a download link will pop up so you can grab the converted file.

I tried to convert it, but unfortunately there isn't a JPEG option available :S
