Larry Booth said:Hey guys,

I have a cell (G19) where I calculated an "Average" (for example, =AVERAGE(G12:G17)).
Now my Activecell F19. I need to divide an integer (200) by that cell (G19) and save it in F19 such that the formula itself remains visible in cell F19. I might have overcomplicated things; hopefully you follow me. I used formula R1C1.

Are you certain you actually want the display instead of the result of the formula in cell F19? 😕

edit: your title says multiply 😕

which doesn't match if you wanted F19=200/G19.😕

God of Lava,

You’re right about the title—I suppose I should have been more precise there; what I really need is for the formula to remain visible in F-19, even though it needs to contain the specific number I'd get from that division process.

Back when I was stuck using Word 2003, I had to resort to this ridiculous workaround: I'd open up a blank page in Word and set the orientation to landscape. Then, I’d draw a frame using Drawing. I would go over to the document containing the actual table, copy it, and then drop it inside that frame I just made. You have to be careful not to let the table get too close to the edges of the frame, otherwise, it'll cut off your last column—it drives me crazy. Once that's done, I'd right-click the frame and change the border color to white so it stays invisible later on. Then, in the actual document where I wanted the table to live, I’d insert a clean page, fix up the header, and go to Paste Special. I'd pick Picture (GIF) or whatever format looks similar enough, and hit OK. Once the table is pasted in as an image, I just click it so the frame shows up, then rotate the whole "picture" 90 degrees to the left. After that, I just fiddle with the image until it looks right. If I need to move it around the page, I click it, switch to the selection tool (Highlight), and then I can drag it wherever I want. That’s it. It's a bit of a hybrid mess, but it worked for me. Hopefully, that helps you out with your 2007 version.

.

Look, it just doesn't work that way. If I'm following this whole mess correctly—and I think I am—you can't have both the raw formula and the calculated result sitting right there in the same cell at once. That’s just not how software works. If you click on a cell showing a result, you'll see the actual formula sitting up there in the formula bar at the top of the sheet. For instance, in F19, as we already established, the formula is =200/G19. It's basic logic.

You could just handle this by putting a working formula directly in the cell itself.

- Or just drop a comment over the cell so it pops up when you hover
- Or use a Validation message so the prompt shows up whenever the cell is selected.

True... except the formula is visible right when you hover over F19. My takeaway—and correct me if I'm wrong 😍—is that he wants to see both the formula and the result in F19 at all times. Personally, I don't see the point, but you've certainly given him the option.

I need some help with headers and footers...

They show up on every single page, and right now they’re all identical,
but I don't want them to be exactly the same everywhere,
I want the first page header to say "Exercise 1",
then the second page to say Exercise 2, and so on...
The problem is, whenever I try to change the number in one spot, it updates every single page at once, so everything just says "Exercise 1" everywhere...

How do I actually fix this? 🤷 😉

Which version of Word are you using? Back in 2007 and 2010, the process was pretty much like this:
Once you hit the last page or reach the end of the text for exercise 1, just head over to Page Layout, then click on Breaks, and select Section breaks --> next page.
Then, go ahead to the next page and double-click the header area. You should see "Header -Section 2-" pop up, and on the right side, it’ll say "Same as Previous." Just look at the options at the top and toggle off "Link to previous," and you're all set.
You can just keep repeating those steps for as many sections as you need to make.

thanks 🙏

but now I'm getting tripped up by the page numbers in the footer... they won't stay in order. Every single section just resets back to 1, but I need them to follow a continuous sequence through the whole document...
I'm guessing you'd have to keep that link to previous 🤷

Is there a way to change the font color for specific numbers in an Excel sheet—specifically, I want to target only the values that fall below, say, 200?

I already know the trick for highlighting negative numbers using the minus sign, but I'm a bit stuck on how to handle this particular range.

Thanks in advance!

I guess I should probably use that "link to previous" option 🤷

Well, you can leave the footer half-finished if that header title is already 😕
Anyway, you can just right-click the page number and select "Format Page Numbers," then pick "Continue from previous section"

I know how to change the color for negative numbers using the minus sign, but I'm stuck on this one.

Thanks in advance

Wait, how are you changing the color for negatives? You could actually just use Conditional Formatting here—just set up a new rule and tell it exactly what color you want to go with🙂

brightcyclist2 said:He wants it. Anytime. Show both the formula and the result in the F-15.

You could just run a VBA Macro that automatically dumps formulas into comments right after you type them. Then, you can just hit a 'show / Hide All Comments' button to toggle everything at once. Super quick.

- Wanna automatically pop the formula into a cell comment for every single cell? Just a heads up—doing this manually is a total grind. You're gonna want a VBA Macro to handle the heavy lifting if you don't want to lose your mind.

It really just boils down to toggling the formulas via the Excel settings or using a quick shortcut. Ctrl+Q either/or Ctrl+' Mine aren't working, unfortunately.
