Gerald Young25 said:Hey John, what formula should I use to convert this kind of time format:
2d 12h 52min

Give the MID function a shot.
Code:
=MID(A1;1;1)*24+MID(A1;3;3)&":"&MID(A1;7;3)

That'll spit out 60: 15 in column B.
You've gotta mess around with the MID function and its arguments to get it right.😉

I was wondering if it’s actually possible to build a full football league tracker in Excel—something that handles all the scores and automatically updates the standings table? If it is, could someone walk me through how to set that up?

Of course it's possible. ☕

True, that works, but then I’m stuck manually checking which entries are over 10 hours and which are under... necessitating constant formula tweaks.

One more thing:

I have employee work hours formatted as either "3h 46min" or just "46min." Every day, individual daily reports are logged on separate sheets for each specific day. My goal is to aggregate all those hours into one monthly report.

I attempted the most straightforward approach:
The code:
=SUM('first_sheet:last_sheet'!cell_reference)

However, the result just shows 0:00:00. It seems I can't get this time format to sum correctly.

Keep in mind these values come from an automated export from a third-party software. I have zero control over how that application formats the exported time strings, and frankly, the current format makes calculations nearly impossible.

Thanks in advance.

Gerald Young25 said:Yeah, that works, but then I'm stuck manually checking if hours are >10 or div>

You're right, but in this setup, the text part is basically just two digits for days, two for hours, and two for minutes.
Code:
02d 02h 15min

And the formula looks like this:
Code:
=MID(A2;1;2)*24+MID(A2;4;3)&":"&MID(A2;8;3)

which gives you the final result 50:15:00
Go check out how the MID function actually behaves.

Don't get mad, but throw an attachment with some fake dummy data (for downloading from the source) so we can actually see what's going on here without me losing my mind.😉

[edit]
Here's an example of how to sum hours across two sheets onto a third one. LINK
The formula would be =SUM(Sheet1:Sheet2!A1:A6)

I was wondering about Excel—is it actually possible to set it up so that once I type five characters in a cell, it automatically jumps to the next one?

I have two separate issues here. They aren't related, so an all-in-one solution won't work for me.
Word

1. I need to insert a PDF into Word (2007) BUT in a way where every single page actually shows up.
From what I've dug up, Word doesn't seem capable of this—either people don't know how, or I just haven't found anyone who does. 🤔
Is there any way to actually pull this off? Maybe using other software, some kind of workaround, or magic? 😁

To be clear, we aren't talking about small 5-6 page files. We're talking about a main document with dozens of pages, where I need to embed several PDF documents that also have dozens of pages each. So, splitting the PDF manually page by page and inserting them one by one? Nope, that isn't a viable solution. 😢

Also, the main document has its own headers and footers that need to repeat throughout the whole thing. These PDF pages can obviously be slightly smaller, but they really need to fit in properly.

2. The second issue is double numbering.
Basically, I want the header to show the current page number out of the total page count for the entire document,
while the footer shows the page number within the specific section / total pages in that section.

Searching on Google hasn't helped much, because I just keep hitting a wall of "how to handle numbering when you have multiple sections"... which is not at all what I'm looking for.
The fields I see under the header & footer tools/design > insert > quick parts regarding numbering are:
  • Page (insert the number of the current page),
  • SectionPages (insert the total number of pages in the section),
  • NumPages (The number of pages in the document).

So, I just can't find the specific thing I actually want: the current page number within the section.

Any help?

If there's a link that addresses either of these, great. I don't want to write a novel here, but I just can't seem to find the right phrasing to make Google understand 🙂 what I am asking, and specifically that it IS NOT "how to continue numbering across sections." 🙂

I hope I've described my struggle clearly enough. 😢
Thanks for the help. 😉

Hannah Taylor14 said:How do I shove a PDF into Word (2007) so it actually shows every single page?

You should probably just split that main PDF into smaller chunks using some software, then go ahead and insert each part as an Object into Word.
- Check out this file. So, I took this PDF and split it into two separate files since it had two pages. Then I just went ahead and inserted each one as an object into Word. One page per file, simple enough.

You’re gonna need some specific software for that.

Great, thanks. I'll look into it. 🙏

- Take a look at this file where I embedded a PDF that I split into two sections since it had two pages, then inserted each file as an object in Word (treating one page of the PDF as its own individual file).

But you're going to need specific software for that.

Do you have any suggestions on which one to use? 🤔
Maybe there’s some software out there that can chop up a PDF and then automatically pull it into a doc? Or maybe this could be handled through a macro? (I haven't messed around with this before, but I guess it's never too late to learn something new.)

The thing is, doing the splitting and the inserting manually just isn't an option; these documents are way too massive to be merging them by hand.

If we can't find a workaround, you're stuck doing it manually. Check out THIS link and the VBA macro there. It’s about pulling images from files, which is basically the same thing since we're just treating these PDFs like images anyway. I haven't personally tested it, so give it a shot.

Also, check out this link for a VBA macro that inserts a PDF into Word
Code:
Sub Macro1()
Dim strFileName As String
strFileName = "D:\tmp\test.pdf"
Selection.InlineShapes.AddOLEObject ClassType:="AcroExch.Document.7", _
FileName:=strFileName _
, LinkToFile:=False, DisplayAsIcon:=False
End Sub

though that other tutorial is better for me since it uses an Excel list

Google -> "pdf to doc online free"

Just convert the PDF into a Doc...

Simple enough, right?

I didn't quite catch if she actually wants to convert PDF to DOC, but hey, maybe that'll "do the trick" for her.😉

@Kyle Johnson2/">@@Kyle Johnson2: thanks, I'll look into that too. 😉

It’s not really my area of expertise, so I’m honestly not sure if a PDF to Word conversion would actually work here. It depends on what kind of documents we're talking about, I guess. A friend of mine was asking me about this because they couldn't find any answers, and I tried searching for it myself but came up empty-handed. So, I eventually decided to just ask here. 😉

I'll give it a shot, thanks 🙂

Ugh, I’m running into a massive headache here. Every single time I try to fire up Microsoft Word 2010, this pops up:

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5167/72769048.jpg
I’ve tried following all the usual online tutorials, but honestly? Nothing is working.

So, here’s the deal—if I launch Word in Safe Mode, everything seems totally fine and the error stays away. But the second I go back to normal... boom, there it is. I noticed that if I completely wipe Adobe Acrobat off my computer (or just strip out those annoying PDF add-ins from Word), the error disappears. I’ve been playing around with both Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10, doing full installs and uninstalls over and over, but it’s like a loop—that same stupid error keeps hitting me every single time.
The weirdest part is that Microsoft Word actually works fine with Adobe PDF Maker once it's finally open, but getting to that point is a nightmare. I have to click "OK" like ten times before the program actually lets me in, which is driving me absolutely insane.

Does anyone have any clue what's going on? Any ideas at all? 🤷

So, from what I can gather, you really need to enable the Macro if the document you're trying to open comes from a reliable source (just make sure to follow step 4), and here is how you do it:
Go to -> Word Options -> trust center -> trust center Settings -> Microsoft Office Button -> Word Options -> trust center -> trust center Settings and then select Macro Settings.
Click The options that you Want : 1.
1.Disable all macros without notification Choose this if you just don't trust macros at all. All macros in documents and security alerts about macros ara disabled. If you happen to have certain documents with unsigned macros that you actually do trust, you can just move those files into a trusted location. Documents in trusted locations ara allowed to run without being checked by The trust center security system.
2.Disable all macros with notification This is actually what you have set right now. Pick this if you want macros turned off by default, but still want to get those security alerts whenever macros show up. That way, you can decide whether to let them run on a case-by-case basis.
3.Disable all macros except digitally signed macros This works pretty much like the "disable with notification" setting, with one big difference: if a macro is digitally signed by a publisher you already trust, it'll just run. If you haven't trusted them yet, you'll get a heads-up. It gives you the choice to either run those signed macros or trust the publisher entirely. Any unsigned macros? They stay disabled without any notification.
4.. Enable all macros (not recommended, potentially dangerous code can run) Select this if you want every single macro to run. Honestly, I wouldn't do this—it leaves your computer wide open to potentially malicious code, so it's pretty risky.

Anyway, sorry if I'm totally off base here! It almost feels like you're having trouble getting Microsoft Word itself to launch, rather than just struggling with a specific document, but I don't want to go off on a tangent.

How is it even possible to split a multi-page Microsoft Word Document into several different files? Please, just don't tell me I have to manually rip all 30 pages apart one by one—you know, highlighting, opening a new file, pasting, saving... it's a nightmare.
