Timothy Watson5 said:Basically, here’s the deal: whenever I try to drop a chart into Word, I get hit with this annoying error message: "To insert a chart, you must close any open dialog boxes or cancel editing mode in Microsoft Office Excel." Can someone please walk me through how to fix this so I can actually get my charts working? Thanks a ton in advance.

  • First, go ahead and click on Microsoft Office image, then head over to the Program Options—and just remember, the "Program Name" part basically refers to whatever software you're currently stuck in, like Word options.

  • From there, find and select the Resources tab.

  • Click on Diagnostics, then hit Continue, and finally, select Run Diagnostics.

Do you happen to know how one would go about doing this on a Mac 🙂?

Look, you just need to run the diagnostic tool. If you can't figure out where that setting is hiding, just try asking over at -> http://www.officeformachelp.com/support/

Hey everyone!
Can someone give me a hand with something?
I'm working in Excel
So, let's say I have a table set up like this:
A B C
1 8 7
2 4 6
3 9 0
I want to write a formula where if a cell equals 3, it displays "A", and if it's 4, it shows "B", and so on.
I tried using HLOOKUP but I can't get it to work for the life of me!
Please help!
Thanks

If I’m following your logic correctly—and I try my best, though sometimes these things get muddled—you might want to try something like this: let's say you're plugging numbers like 3, 4, or 5 into cell G1. In that case, just pop this formula into H1, then drag it down to H2 and H3: =IF(G1=3;A1;IF(G1=4;B1;IF(G1=5;C1;""))). It’s a bit tedious, I know. If you have more numbers coming in through column D and so on, you’ll just have to keep nesting them—asking if G1 equals 6, and so forth. And look, if those columns A, B, and C are packed with ten rows of data, you're going to need to copy that formula all the way down to H10. Just a thought.

If I’m following you correctly, you mean in Walter Jackson48's formula we should swap out A1 for "A", B1 for "B", C1 for "C"... you were a little fuzzy there, Walter Jackson48 🙂

- So, the values go into columns A, B, and C, right? And then in column D, you want the letters A or B to show up? Is that it?
- But what happens if all the cells have a 3 or a 4—or even just two of them? What’s the actual rule there?

- I'll wait for some clarification. I really don't want to spend my time playing guessing games!

Look, thanks for putting in the work, and my bad if I wasn't clear before.
Let me lay it out this way. We’ve got some data here. Say Player A had certain scores in a bowling league, which are listed in the column below. Same goes for Players B and C. What we're trying to do is pull the top three scores and figure out exactly which person hit those specific numbers. If I type =large(a2:c4;1) in one cell, =large(a2:c4;2) in the next, and =large(a2:c4;3) in the third, the math works fine—that part is easy. But the headache starts when I actually want to label them: who got the #1 score, who got #2, and who got #3!
It should look something like this:
A B C D E F G
1 PLAYER TOP 3
2 A B C SCORE PLAYER
3 1 8 7 9 ?
4 2 4 6 8 ?
5 3 9 0 7 ?

How the hell do I replace those question marks?

Thanks, everyone!

My bad, I messed up the formulas. Here we go... =LARGE(B3:C5,1) ...

Raymond Collins18 said:Hey guys, thanks for the help and my bad if I was being vague.
Let's try this again. Here's the data we're working with.

You're still being super vague with this info. You should've just uploaded an example of your spreadsheet for us to look at. Show us what goes where and what the final result is supposed to look like. It would've saved everyone some time.
Here, take this File for download (assuming this is what you meant)

Kyle Johnson2, how do I set up an example for a download? Thanks for the file you posted! I actually need exactly what you made, but flipped on its head—I want the player names sitting right there in the header. In my version, the players' roll results would run down the columns, while the turn numbers go down the rows. As it stands in your example, I could easily handle this using VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP and stuff, but I’m hitting a wall trying to get Excel to tell me which specific series hit the highest score. My end goal is to have it return the column name instead of just a row number.
tnx

I've got an Epson DX4450

and I'm trying to get this document printed out using Microsoft Word 2010.

Here’s the deal,
I have this image set as the background for my text, and I need it to print edge-to-edge. I've already messed around with a bunch of settings—like setting all the margins to zero and stuff—but even though the image looks like it covers the whole page on my screen, once it actually hits the paper, there’s always this annoying 3mm white border around all four sides.

And honestly, the same thing happens even when the image isn't acting as a background.

How do I fix this?

Also, what kind of paper is best for double-sided printing? I don't care about fancy photo quality or anything, just looking for something thick enough so the text from one side doesn't bleed through to the other.

Thanks.🙂

One might consider first printing the image directly from File Explorer—utilizing the "no borders" setting if you prefer—and then feeding that printed sheet back into the printer to print your text over it. Of course, this little workaround only holds any water if the lettering isn't white. 🙂

can you go into more detail 🙂

but how am I supposed to do that in Microsoft Word? I've already spent forever getting this whole document looking perfect

thanks

Just hit print preview to see how it's looking. If it still feels a bit cramped, just stretch the image out past the page margins a little bit

In the application, you shouldn't just hit the quick print command; instead, navigate through to the File menu to access the Print settings. Once there, you'll find options for Properties, Paper/Quality, or Printing Shortcuts. Select the photo printing option—specifically choosing borderless—and then simply designate the paper size as Letter

-- paper type/quality, pick photo printing - borderless,--

That’s the trick—I couldn't even find the borderless option because I had standard paper selected. It only shows up once you switch the settings to high-quality photo paper.

thanks
