Just a little bit of back action...
I'll be the first to admit I went a little overboard with the filters on this one.

Got no decent spot to take photos. Can't go outside in the daylight without the neighbors losing their minds. 😂
Phone’s a joke. Claims to be 16mpx, but the quality is straight up garbage.
Anyway—started at 182 lbs in mid-August. Currently sitting at 196.
The Elevator goes up pretty fast. By mid-April, I should be hitting 207. Weight gain is right on track.
Then I'll slowly cut 10-15 lbs before summer. Goal is to turn that 194 into actual muscle so I'm not winded after a thirty-minute hike. 😂
Looking back at old pics, you can barely tell I put on chest or those legendary calves. In person, though, the progress is obvious.

Left side was about 218 lbs back in April 2019
Right side is 200 lbs now

The weight loss has been steady, just incredibly slow—except for one stretch in July and August where I managed to drop about 13 lbs in two months.
I’ve probably got another 5 or so pounds to go just to clear out the remaining belly fat. I should hit that mark by summer.
And people love to claim you can't lose the weight once you hit 40... I'm living proof that's nonsense. You don't have to sacrifice all your muscle to do it, either. Most importantly, you can still enjoy a beer and eat pretty much whatever you want.

Age... let's just say hypothetically, if a child was born right when I was heading off to serve my time in the military, that kid would be a fully grown adult by now. You catch my drift...
Measurements? I don't really weigh myself that often. Weight is probably hovering just north of 220 pounds; I've been sitting around that range for a few years now. Height... well, let's just say I'm likely about as tall as Conan O'Brien 😁
As for sports or specific stats, those aren't really my focus, so I don't obsess over them. My main priority is just making sure my body actually functions properly...
Supplements? I've tried pretty much everything. I did my own research—actual science, not that "broscience" nonsense some people try to teach here. Nowadays sometimes I'll take some creatine, whey, and certain vitamins. But honestly, eating right and getting decent sleep is way more important. People overlook that all the time...
I'm not even close to training as hard as I did back in my younger days because, well... 1. I don't have the time, and 2. I just don't have that same level of energy I used to have...
My Elevator numbers are relatively high for an ectomesomorph, my VO2 max is great, and my aerobic and anaerobic thresholds are solid too. Though, I definitely used to handle lactate better back in the day...
These days, being in shape matters much more to me than the number on the scale...
I don't do any isolation exercises. My arms aren't going to be tiny once I'm doing heavy pull-ups, climbing ropes, and working them through movement... it doesn't work that way. Sure, by bodybuilding standards, my arms might be considered "small," but I don't care about bodybuilding standards. I care about functionality...
Anyway, here's one photo, but that's plenty. I wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm "all theory" (since I am a kinesiologist) without having any actual practice to back it up...
Oh, and—I regularly compete in an important Olympic sport, though nowadays I'm doing it as a masters athlete...

Back at it again, trying to figure out how to stay on track during these tough days without access to my gym.

Lila was before
Righty is now, after a few too many cases of beer and losing a couple of pounds.
I’m starting to think beer is some kind of miracle elixir. If you don't believe me, you should probably try it.

Here’s my current routine during this whole Corona era—mostly just hitting the trails on my bike, lifting heavy rocks, and crushing pull-ups.

I’m not really complaining, except for the fact that my gut fat just refuses to budge. I'll probably never win that battle, so whatever. It is what it is.
Maybe I should double down on the beer? Either that or I seriously need to get to a barbershop, I know.😁

I figured I’d post a "front view" photo for once, since I've been stuck inside dealing with this isolation and the whole Corona mess. Besides, once the summer heat hits, there is absolutely no way I'm going out to work out in those temperatures.
I'll admit, I've been sucking my stomach in a bit for the shot, though a few extra pounds of fat are still clearly visible.🙂

P.S. Just a quick reminder: I am a full 49 years old, and I have zero intention of giving up my beer, pizza, or burgers.😁

Lockdown training session
After taking a break for about a year and a half, I’m finally back to lifting heavy...
For the last month, I’ve been trying to hit the weights every single day—which is what I did during the worst part of the Corona peak—though normally I just go four times a week. Every single morning it feels like such a massive struggle to actually get moving, but once I’m done, I feel incredible and that’s really the only thing keeping me going...
Working out has been my only way to keep my head straight and clear my mind while stuck inside this house during all this madness, and honestly, it’s basically therapy for me when I push myself until I'm physically exhausted...
I’m not sure how much longer I can keep up with the heavy lifting, so I figured I might as well dive back in. Usually, once summer hits, I switch over to running because I’d much rather be outdoors, but I’ve been putting that off because of the Corona situation, plus I need to see if my knee rehab actually worked or if it’s just going to start acting up again the moment I hit the pavement...
The whole
Up close
And the gear
I always train at home; I haven't stepped foot in a commercial gym in nearly a decade...
Best,

I was actually pretty happy with where I was—down to 214 lbs from my starting 222.
The gut shrinks first, then my face starts looking like my old self again. For me, the weight always drops from the waist before hitting the face.

I managed to hit 202 lbs and felt great, but then Corona hit, cut me off from beer and BBQs, and I ended up dropping to 194 lbs (just vodka and Bacardi 😢 ).
Just a few more pounds to go and maybe that hated belly fat will finally be gone... hopefully. There isn't much left. I could almost vacuum-seal it now, but you can't tell from the photo 😁
This is a shot taken after work (total desk jockey life 😁) at the end of the day after all meals—basically the worst-case scenario.

My strategy: heavy training (90 mins a day, mostly isolation moves rather than complex lifts; the only compound lift I do is bench press), eating very little (1500-2000 calories/day), an aggressive deficit (calculating a -1100 to -1500 calorie gap), and zero sugar, white flour, or fried food. Lots of meat and fruit plus complex carbs/fructose.
Losing about 2 lbs per week.
Everything here goes against standard advice.
The only real way I can measure progress is my waist (went from 40 inches down to 35), chest is still 44, biceps are 16.
Still standing around 6'3" or 6'4", depending on which doctor you ask.
