I'm really curious to see if they can actually live up to Taken: Retribution. 🤣

In the third installment, she’s going to become a secret agent and rescue some seniors from a nursing home that’s been taken over by insurgents... 🤣 🤣

I caught that movie yesterday, and honestly... I thought it was great. 😍
Sure, you can tell there's a difference between the first and second installments, but honestly... it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone else makes it out to be... 😁

Honestly, I’m such a huge fan of Liam Neeson. I’d probably sit through any absolute garbage movie as long as he was starring in it... 🙂

not really... 😬
So, I just scrolled through this entire thread, and I have to say, I’m honestly surprised that nobody else caught some of the glaring mistakes I spotted immediately...
But they didn't ruin my impression of the film... 🙂)

So, you know that part where his ex brings over the wine and the glasses... then suddenly, the wine is already poured...

That scene where Kim heads back to her dressing room just to change—she pops right back out in a button-down and trousers... 😬

I'm not entirely sure if that covers everything, or if there was something else... 😁

You're right. It isn't quite that bad. Actually, it's worse. 🙂
I'm no film critic, nor am I a massive cinephile, but even to me, this felt transparent and boring. It was just bad, plain and simple. 🤦 And I don't hate Neeson. I see people giving it a five, but I'd barely give it a two. 👎

As for the mistakes in the movie, anyone who has ever been to Istanbul would want to cry. 🙂
He gets kidnapped downtown, near the Egyptian market... then we see them traveling by boat to the other side of the city. Later, when the girl is searching for him and throwing grenades, it turns out he was only held captive two streets (or maybe two houses 🤣) away from where he was snatched.

And then there's the Galata Bridge when they are driving (that scene where he and his wife talk before the kidnapping). You can cross that bridge on foot in less than ten minutes, which means a car takes seconds, yet they seem to be driving for at least five minutes.
It drove me absolutely crazy.🙂

It was a watchable movie, though I have to say it was quite a disappointment after the first installment—which, in my opinion, was absolutely perfect. I watched this one without much anticipation at all—just completely indifferent. ☕

I second that.
I actually decided to watch this one specifically because the setting was Istanbul.
But man, the portrayal of the city is totally unrealistic. It’s like they think
only men
wearing fez hats and women in burqas walk the streets, when Istanbul has modernized quite a bit
in that regard. Also, that Galata Bridge thing... that caught my eye too. I actually said to the guy, "I don't get how you have to drive so slow that it takes five whole minutes
to cross that bridge."
🙂 Third off, they keep showing the same mosque over and over, as if it’s
the only one in the entire city, when Istanbul is absolutely packed with them.🙂

I did enjoy the taxi chase sequence. And the whole idea with the grenade
and the speed of sound was pretty cool. (Though I still don't get how he could be held just a few streets away,
while they supposedly crossed the Bosphorus.😕)

Overall, I suppose the movie is watchable. It has a few decent ideas, but I think they
could have put in a bit more effort. Especially regarding making Istanbul feel like a real part of the story.
Based on how they shot it, the plot could have been set anywhere.🤷

They crossed the Bosphorus, reached Rade, and then Rade tells them he’s taking him to the shop. Right then, they start beating him senseless—he wakes up later in the garage. Basically, they doubled back.

Taken 2 ranks incredibly high on my list of the worst movies this year—right behind The Godfather Part II...

The first installment was an absolute masterpiece—brutally realistic and gripping. I’m definitely going to have to catch this one; I honestly can't wait. 😁

Honestly, this movie was such a drag; I found myself counting down the minutes until the credits finally rolled. That entire sequence where Kim is tearing through the streets of Istanbul like she’s Michael Schumacher? Absolute catastrophe. There is simply no way someone without even a shred of driving experience could handle a car like that—it was frankly laughable. And then you have Nilsson constantly shouting, "Go, go, go!" while she just repeats "I can't, I can't" like some sort of broken parrot, all while moaning incessantly. The driving was just dreadful and completely detached from reality.

And don't even get me started on the cinematography of Istanbul; it feels like they just filmed that one single mosque over and over again.

My rating is a solid 2/10.

In my opinion, Stolen is a vastly superior film compared to this mess. 😉

I didn't enjoy the movie. I just can't stand that level of unrealistic action. It always follows that same pattern where some boring dad saves his daughter without a single scratch while single-handedly taking out 1,000 bad Albanians. The film is full of "bugs," so to speak. Here is one of the most obvious examples. His daughter is driving him through Istanbul in an old Mercedes taxi; she drives like a pro, outrunning heavily armed kidnappers, even though she hasn't even gotten her driver's license in the US yet. And let's not forget that in America, kids take their driving tests on automatics. But then she shows up in Turkey and handles a manual Mercedes like Michael Schumacher, all while Dad is shooting his way through dozens of guys driving automatics... give me a break. Honestly, I have my driving test coming up in two weeks on a manual after 35 hours of practice, and there is no way I could handle a heavy vehicle in crazy traffic like Istanbul 😁 😁

You also have to consider that the film likely serves a paid propaganda purpose. It’s what people call a "media war," which the Mexicans definitely influenced. They want to portray Albanians and Albania in the worst possible light—our dear Mexican Rade Šerbedžija surely played a part in this "lobbying," whether anyone liked it or not. That’s how it works today, these so-called "propaganda-media wars."

It’s something like that on this forum; we Americans should have stepped up.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we will see. But the goal is to portray one nation to millions of viewers worldwide as a bunch of savages from some unknown backwater.

It was obvious to me right away in Taken... though that isn't even its biggest flaw. The main issue is Liam Neeson's lack of action presence; he doesn't have that specific "karma" for it. He is more suited for dramas, psychological thrillers, and those "quieter" types of films. So when you take such a composed, stiff man and put him in a role where he kills an entire army by himself, it's just unwatchable and boring.

Poor guy, I prefer movies with a high dose of realism, and Taken is miles beyond any sense of reality. It's pure fiction fueled by political propaganda.

Amen

ha-ha-ha!!! I can't believe we both noticed the exact same mess. Actually, before I started writing my own post, I hadn't even realized it, I swear.

Anyway, yes, that's exactly it, just like you said... you can tell more people are noticing how naive the film is.

Total garbage movie. Missing those badass scenes from the first one that actually made it a top-tier action thriller. Just a basic, pathetic action flick now...

The second one isn't half bad, I guess—but honestly? It’s just a shadow of the first one. That original film had me absolutely glued to the screen for those full 96 minutes... I can't stop thinking about a third part, though I'm terrified they'll just completely butcher it even worse than they did the sequel.

I caught a screening last night, and honestly, I still think it’s a solid movie. It doesn't quite touch the heights of the first one—because let's be real, that original was "sickeningly" perfect—but it’s still a satisfying watch... maybe just because I've always been such a fan of Liam Neeson and his style of films 😁

I only sat through this movie because the first one was actually incredible. This sequel? It doesn't even come close. It’s just predictable, exhausting, and riddled with a massive pile of plot holes...

Honestly, it’s just not all that great.

It’s such a shame, too—I was actually really hyped for this, but now I honestly can't even bring myself to watch it.

The first installment was significantly better.

It’s honestly disappointing; I used to think people were just being dramatic when they claimed the sequel was a letdown.

At this point, it’s probably best to just skip it.

Even if there are a few plot holes here and there, the movie is honestly fantastic—it’s got that classic Liam Neeson vibe down perfectly.😁 I'm already looking forward to the third installment.

Absolutely terrible. The first one actually had tension—a solid, bleak plot where Liam Neeson unraveled the mystery step by step in a way that made sense. This sequel feels forced, illogical, and cheap. It’s just plain boring. The ending was pathetic.

I would have preferred if they kidnapped Famke Janssen instead, forcing Liam Neeson and his daughter to team up for the search. He could have done the heavy lifting while she provided the testimony for all those years he wasn't around. Even if she already knew the truth, being part of the action would have changed everything. This third installment is a mess; jumping back and forth without any real direction is just sad.

unknown, man, what an absolute disaster of a movie! It’s a total train wreck from start to finish. Now, don't get me wrong—I am a massive, die-hard fan of the first film, but this sequel? This was bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. With its cheesy, James Bond-style tropes, it actually insults the intelligence of anyone watching, and that includes people who usually love mindless action flicks! And a PG-13 rating? Are you kidding me? What on earth were they thinking?
