Blood work is totally fine to do regardless (though if they're doing urine tests too, you might run into issues—but honestly, you can usually work around that with tampons)

Nah, I wouldn't recommend using urine even if you use a tampon; you're still likely to end up finding red blood cells in there anyway. 🙂

Hmm, I suppose I’m feeling a bit uncertain myself now 🤔
but yes, I do use tampons

edit:
Actually, I think I’ll just wait until next week—thanks to everyone for the input 😉

I’m actually bleeding right now, so I’d say it’s my period.
It’s been going on for three days already, and it’ll probably last another three.
I’ve been thinking about starting birth control, but I honestly can't tell if this is just my cycle or ovulation. I really need someone to explain the difference to me!

If you're just doing a blood draw, you're fine. If they need a urine sample too, you should probably wait.

😕
So, I used to have a pretty steady 28-day cycle—everything was totally predictable—but then things just went completely off the rails. It jumped to 20 days, then 23, 25, 24, and now it’s down to 15.
Fifteen days!!
Why on earth would this happen? 😢

(And before anyone asks—no, I haven't been under any crazy stress, my diet hasn't changed at all, and I haven't traveled anywhere recently. Everything about my lifestyle and environment is exactly the same as it was before this started happening. 😢 )

Alright, here’s the situation: I have PCOS, and during my last checkup, they diagnosed me with chlamydia, so I’ve been on a course of antibiotics. My cycle usually runs anywhere from 35 to 40 days and lasts about five days. For instance, I had my period on January 15th, then nothing in February, and then it finally showed up on March 18th. What’s actually worrying me is that on April 11th, I started having this brownish discharge, which turned into bleeding by the second day. It wasn't as heavy as my actual period, but it was fresh, dark red blood—enough that I absolutely had to use pads. By the third day, it lightened up, and by the fourth, it was just spotting on the pad or when I wiped. I didn't really have any typical PMS symptoms beforehand, just some mild abdominal discomfort. It felt more like a dull, radiating heat rather than sharp cramps.
I’ve had sex four times, and every single time my boyfriend used a condom, and none of them broke. Our most recent encounter was on April 7th.

Now that I’ve laid everything out, does anyone have any idea what might be going on? To make matters worse, my gynecologist can't see me for another month and a half. :/

Hey everyone, just wanted to run this by you all while I wait for my appointment with my OB-GYN to see if anyone has any insight. 😁
LMP was March 29th. I went in for an exam on April 3rd and here’s what the report said: my endometrium is trilaminar, measuring 0.9 cm. Both ovaries look normal in size. However, the right ovary shows more than 12 small follicles lined up (PCO), and on the left ovary, there's a dominant follicle measuring 1.6x1.8 cm.

Fast forward to today, April 14th—I had some brown discharge, which then turned into actual bleeding on April 15th. It's bright red blood, nothing crazy, no big clots, just some tiny little bits. My stomach is cramping a bit, though not quite as intense as my usual period cramps. This bleeding has been going on for three days now, plus the few days of that brown discharge before it. Is it possible this is just my period starting early, or could it be something else? At first, I thought maybe it was ovulation spotting, but I don't think that's it... :/
Oh, one more thing—I've actually overhauled my diet over the last two weeks (cut out sugar, white flour, etc.) and started working out. Could that change things?

That's wild. Looks like I'm probably going to get mine 10 days early too, I guess.🙄 This has honestly never happened to me before.🤷

Ladies, I need some advice. I have a trip coming up in a few weeks, and if things go according to plan, I’m going to be dealing with my period right in the middle of a bus ride. To make matters worse, since I’m heading to the coast, everything is just going to be a massive hassle... So, I wanted to ask if anyone here has actual experience using those period delay pills? Should I be asking my primary care doctor or a gynecologist about them? And what is the cycle like once you stop taking them? Or should I just scrap the idea entirely and deal with the mess? 🙂

Hey ladies 🙂 ...I have a question for you all. Is it actually normal for a period to last literally only two days (meaning actual bleeding), followed by maybe one or two days of just brown discharge?

That happened to me once, but I didn't really think twice about it at the time. Then the next month, everything went back to "normal," except I was dealing with some absolutely brutal cramps for two days straight. 😁
If this is becoming your regular routine, you should probably go see a doctor.

I used to have this happen all the time. Just one day of heavy flow, maybe two, then that brown spotting for a couple more days. Happened to me maybe two or three times. Went to see my OB-GYN about it and she just told me I was too young and things hadn't leveled out yet.

One time I even felt like I got two periods back-to-back. One finished, then a day or two later, the next one started right up again.

Maybe go hit up a doctor? But honestly, you're probably fine. 🙂

Thanks for the replies, ladies 🙂 ...look, ever since I’ve been on birth control (for over ten years now), my period hasn't been this weird. Usually, it's just a matter of a couple of days, but this one was incredibly light and way too short :/ It actually really worried me. Then, to top it all off, the cramps are absolutely brutal. I'm heading to my doctor's appointment shortly, so I'll be asking her straight up about it, but I just wanted to check in here to calm my nerves until then... I even took a pregnancy test just now and it came back negative. 🙂...

I’ve actually had that exact same thing happen to me a few times during those months when I wasn't even ovulating... my OB-GYN explained it to me just like that, too... but honestly, you should probably check in with yours just to be safe...

Not really, because I’m pretty sure I was dealing with ovulation spotting this month... at least, that's my best guess. :/

Does anyone else feel like their period always arrives right when it starts raining? It happens to me every single time. My cycle fluctuates between 23 and 32 days, but it consistently shows up during rainy or cloudy weather. I know it sounds bizarre, but I haven't been able to find anything about this online...

Can an OBGYN actually spot a pregnancy just by looking at bloodwork? Here’s the deal: I had blood drawn twice in the last two weeks. First, my GP sent me to the lab and said everything looked perfect. Then I went to my OBGYN—just for a checkup, really—but she ran blood tests too. Everything came back normal, so she just put me on some vitamins because apparently, I'm lacking.

Now I'm stuck wondering: is it even possible that neither my doctor nor my OBGYN suspected I might be pregnant if I actually am?

I'm asking because I started spotting this brownish blood for maybe two or three days, and then for the next two days, it turned bright red. It’s way lighter than my actual period, though it showed up about five days early (my cycle is a mess anyway—usually late 90% of the time, occasionally early, rarely on time). The total amount I bled over those five days would barely fill one pad.

We usually use protection, though we did have unprotected sex twice, but we were careful... still, I need to know: what are the odds I'm pregnant and both my doctors missed it despite full blood and urine panels? I've been reading so much crap online that I don't even know what to believe anymore.

So, my period is usually super regular—heavy, lasts about six days, the whole deal. This time, though, it arrived right on schedule, but it’s incredibly light. Like, for the first two days it was barely there, nothing at all at night, and then for the next two days, I’m only seeing spotting when I go to the bathroom. This has never happened before; I’ve been tracking this for over ten years and it’s always been clockwork. No issues, ever. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, but I’ve been dealing with these intense headaches and nausea.
Anyone have any thoughts?
