On the contrary, I do have something intelligent to say (I’ve said it before, and I will certainly say it again):

1. This forum isn't a place for discussing electronics, which is perfectly fine in itself.

2. However, when an electronics topic does happen to slip through, it usually results in nothing but mindless bashing, which is also not okay.

3. The vitriol directed at electronics reaches such heights that people are personally insulted—their tastes labeled "stupid" or their intelligence questioned—which is absolutely unacceptable.

There is zero tolerance or empathy here; it's just constant sniping. Does any actual discussion occur on this platform? I wouldn't go so far as to say yes.

And now, for the final insult: after everything I have attempted to articulate, all I receive is the comment: "I guess... since you don't have anything intelligent to say anyway."

Give me a break, what kind of connection could Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis (plus Enigma 😁) possibly have to modern electronic music, because honestly, it’s basically just folk music for people who think they're being deep.

Why does this guy keep cycling through so many different handles like it’s some kind of game; he's constantly just having these weird little one-man debates with himself and I honestly think someone needs to step in and fix this mess.

Music by someone with ACTUAL talent doesn't get played in elevators, during lottery drawings, or during the evening news segments on major networks...

For heaven's sake: that overhyped Mozart Requiem was playing on loop for months, just like the nightly news on ABC or CBS. 🙂

Just out of curiosity:
What do you think about those bands from, say, those big commercial ads that were running a year or two ago? If I recall correctly, they seem to fit "your" genre. Or are commercials somehow at a higher level than elevators and junk like that?

It is common knowledge that Vangelis composed the vast majority of his repertoire specifically for film scores, largely because in this day and age, that sort of music can only truly survive within such mediums. However, he wasn't composing to serve as mere elevator background noise meant to fill a void—that is entirely beside the point. We are discussing instrumental music here. In our current era, all instrumentalists are essentially condemned to a similar fate. The fact that his work might end up playing in a lobby isn't a metric of its actual worth, regardless of what some of you might mistakenly believe.

Do you honestly expect him to be fighting for space on the top charts in the United Kingdom or the United States, competing head-to-head against J. Lo, Christina Aguilera, and the rest of them?

Man, for real: that Requiem by Mozart was played so much it felt like it was on constant loop on ABC or NBC. 🙂

... I mean, Mozart is probably spinning in his grave right now. He’s likely created his own little micro-orbit just from how much they spun his stuff!

What do you think about those bands in, say, the old Ford commercials from a couple years back? If I remember right, didn't they fit right into "your" genre?

And yeah... music used in commercials hits totally different—mostly because its whole purpose is different than this half-baked stuff we're debating here.

I was being perfectly polite (well, except for my first post where I went a bit overboard and basically covered myself in shame already) and when this kid asked me what my deal was with their music, I gave him a full-blown, detailed breakdown of how I hear it.
Didn't throw a single insult his way, either.

And then, out of nowhere—instead of giving me a real answer or even just staying quiet—he just decides I'm talking nonsense and that I'll "never understand" HIS explanation.

Honestly, if he had just said what he just wrote, we would've been fine...
but I just can't stand people acting all condescending and patronizing.
