Eye issues in Health ·
Dammit, it’s just the law of conservation of mass😁... you lose some, you gain some. For me, summer and the beach are sacred, so you know how it is...

I can't even think of the right keyword for you to Google this 😁, but I remember this doctor's name—he might have even been a butcher or something. Anyway, that whole mess vanished into thin air once the money was in the bag.

If your prescription is high, laser rules, IMO. These eye exercises for good vision are just tedious, boring, take forever, and—let's be real—they aren't even proven. Don't waste your energy on them unless there's actual professional backing. Look, I'm not exactly "up to date" on everything, so I'm actually curious what the US ophthalmologists and eye doctors really think about all this.

Let's go!🙂

I’m sitting at a -1 prescription, which I basically earned back in college just from staring at textbooks non-stop trying to pass my finals by June.
It hasn't budged since then, either... had an eye exam recently and it’s still exactly the same.
I wear contacts, but not really on a schedule—I mostly just grab them when I need to drive around at night.
There are all these supposed eye exercises for good vision that claim they can actually fix your sight, and I actually shelled out a ton of cash for them back in the day... but honestly? Zero results. Not that if I’d actually been disciplined enough to do them, I could say for sure...

Rachel Brooks63, you’d honestly be better off just sticking to your farm and those bulls... sounds like there's more your kind of chemistry out there.

And you're only gaining weight because of all that Coca-Cola... no matter how you slice it.☕

Look, I’m all for facts and data because they kill any mystery surrounding these issues, but now that we’ve got the hard truths on the table, can we please remember the whole point of this Forum? We're here to actually talk to people who are struggling. To offer some non-clinical support and maybe just say something kind... because if someone chooses to open up here, that's clearly what they're looking for, right?
People dealing with this stuff often feel incredibly isolated. Even when they have people who truly love them close by, all they get is criticism or fear-mongering. They hear things like "you're crazy" or "you're going to starve yourself to death." And look, even if it comes from a good place, it doesn't help one bit. People use those words to wash their hands of the guilt—it's a way to say, "Well, I warned you," so they don't have to feel responsible later. But that reaction isn't empathy. There's zero attempt to actually step into the person's shoes. Someone can be totally alone even when they're standing right next to the people they love most. Plus, there's this layer of fear where loved ones are terrified that if they say, "Yeah, I get how you feel," they're somehow silently approving of the behavior.

We need to build an environment where actual healing can happen. In my opinion, this illness is often just a symptom of deeper, underlying issues. You need an interdisciplinary approach—and I don't just mean a bunch of pros working together in synergy. I mean bringing in friends, family, and the people who actually matter. That's the only way to hit the target.

I mean, what's the point of building trust (!) with a psychiatrist, or doing individual or group therapy, or whatever else... if you're just sending the patient back to a family that has absolutely no clue what's happening? Or even worse—sending them back to people who treat the whole thing like a joke or look down on them for it?!
The truth is, most people just view these Eating Disorders as some kind of... I don't know, fake act driven by greed.

Hannah, I don't think you actually caught his drift here...🙂

Think about it for a sec.

He wasn't even trying to trash psychiatrists. He was just pointing out that a good one basically just helps the patient find their own way to heal themselves...

Just talking about the problem... honestly, that's half the battle right there!
Finding people who actually want to listen—is there any better guarantee for success?
Not to mention all the other support out there....

We've only got one mouth and TWO ears for a reason!

rustymoose54 said:Yeah, the journals indexed in the Current Contents database contain results from the most cutting-edge scientific research out there. You can find stuff in there that hasn't even made it into textbooks yet (though it eventually will). Sure, you'll run into some subpar papers, but everything goes through a peer review by three independent, anonymous reviewers.

I guess I'm just feeling a bit empathetic toward this topic... and as for you, rustymoose54, I totally believe what you're saying is spot on. I haven't once tried to smugly challenge any medical authority here, but I am trying to open up a more human approach—something that started gaining traction back in the States in the early '90s. Basically, using these scientific foundations to build an approach to psychological issues that actually respects the noetic (noos = spirit) dimension of a person.
Don't take this as some new religion or some mandatory link to existing faiths, either. It’s just an approach that asks doctors to respect the patient's soul (the spirit, call it whatever you want)... the one thing that's truly human about them.
We shouldn't be bickering about this; these two perspectives really ought to overlap. It's pseudoscience to only value what I'm talking about, just like it's pretty ineffective to only value what you can provide hard evidence for. Our goal is to help people, right? Anyway, there's a lot to unpack here... if the weather holds up, we'll get to it.

By the way, do psychiatrists actually equate "mental illness" with "mental disorder," specifically when it comes to this issue?
Eating Disorder Support & Recovery in Health ·
So, you actually read everything in those journals?

Do they have any of those "cryptogram" types in there? Those are my absolute favorite...

Kisses to all the lovely ladies. Let's catch up when things settle down and everyone's actually open to a real conversation—you know, where we actually respect the Human in all of this.

👋

rustymoose54, come on, at least show these people some respect.🙄 😢

Don't go blowing a fuse on me, but this whole version of psychiatry you're talking about? It's ancient history... and honestly, it just leaves people broken and miserable.

I know we haven't quite caught up to that here in the States yet, but treating psychiatry with more humanity is the only way doctors will finally realize that the human psyche isn't just a bunch of firing neurons... it's a real mental illness.

Have you ever actually met someone struggling with bulimia or anorexia just because they feel like their life has zero meaning?

For crying out loud, stop mystifying what a Psychiatrist or any other pro does during the healing process. They can only act as "support"—basically just a backup crew helping you reach the finish line.
That’s exactly why patients build up this massive hype around therapists and then tear it down themselves; they don't get that the only actual path forward is the road to self-healing. A Psychiatrist is just there to help you dig up those internal strongholds.
Sadly, that's the hardest part of the whole thing. I don't really have anything poetic to say about it... I just know that everything happens when it happens, including that moment when you finally grab the reins of your own life.
And please, don't go using "self-healing" as a fancy way to say "self-delusion." I don't believe in anything except that internal "click" within a person.

Here's my theory—and look, I totally get if others can't wrap their heads around it—but it's all about spiritual hunger. That emptiness in the soul is what actually drives people to overstuff their stomachs.
It works both ways, too. If your stomach is growling, thinking about some big battle isn't going to make you feel any less hungry. You might distract yourself for a second, but long-term? That hunger just keeps building up...

The hunger epidemic in humanity is just heartbreaking... you've got people still starving to death, and then you've got people who are basically addicted to the sensation of hunger itself.😢

Wishing you guys nothing but the best!

Honestly, I didn't think this Japanese version was even worth a damn until I sat through that absolutely terrible American remake... talk about a massive step down.

Don't get me wrong, the whole plot of the original Japanese flick doesn't totally make sense to me, but it still pulls off that classic "J-horror" vibe I actually dig. It all stems from some deep, personal human tragedy—these desperate cries for help where the attacker somehow shifts into this tragic victim. The American version? Doesn't have any of that depth at all.

Plus, there are some genuinely creepy, bone-chilling scenes in the Japanese cut... like that shot with the monitor in the security guard's room, or the thing under the covers, and that woman's face just frozen in pure terror... stuff like that...

Not anymore. That was the deal until a few years back, anyway. Then the water department decided they needed to start blending the supply... 🙄 Which is great for you poor souls living out in the suburbs 😁 But for me over here in NYC, it sucks because I actually had damn good water before they messed with it 😉

Oh, really??!😕
I basically grew up on local spring water, and honestly? It still tastes crisp, cold, and perfect to me?!

And don't you dare insult it—I've only been to N. Z. a handful of times in my life.😠 Much respect to the people there, though!

Water quality in Chicago depends entirely on which neighborhood you're in, but honestly, I don't care if people want to drink "sterile" water or whatever.
At my job, we can drink bottled water whenever we feel like it, and coffee is basically unlimited—milk included. Same goes for all the different teas, various juices, or those fizzy vitamin tablets. The only thing we aren't technically supposed to touch is the soda, since that's reserved for the VIP guests, but hey, if you're sneaky enough, anything goes.

😎

Things used to be better... back when you could actually find something decent to grab for a quick snack or just to take the edge off. Nowadays, it's all about quantity over quality. Whatever...☕

At work, they’re serving flat Coca-Cola... honestly, who's actually paying for all that carbonation anyway?😁

I honestly only sat through this because of Clive, but man, it was hilarious how much he reminded me of his role in Closer... I was basically just waiting for him to snap at Keira and yell: "You dirty bitch!"😁 😂
Neither one of them even came close to being good...👎

So I finally sat through this ridiculous movie!🙂

Honestly, I had a blast just counting all the massive fails!😛

I mean, at least it was entertaining...😉
Sex and violence in movies in Movies ·
If there’s even a remote chance that people are gonna view Inception as some movie centered around a ten-minute sex scene (!), then we seriously need to stop airing it on TV altogether.

It actually scares me to think about how many people might take it that way.🙄

When you think about it, calling it 'sex in movies' sounds way too tame... almost like chamomile tea. And porn? Makes it sound all bright, fun, and human. I mean, if it's just about the sex, sure.

Totally, I'm with you—professional help is definitely needed here.

Maybe she just won't listen because she isn't used to anyone actually listening to her...

Plus, all she gets around here is constant attacks and people trying to shut her up.

And honestly? That's the one thing she *is* used to.
