Carnival (2003-2005) in TV Series ·
Ethan Martinez11 said:That’s more of a secondary issue, coming after the spy subplot. 😁

The series is quite peculiar; steeped in mysticism, surrealism—and mud. Every single character looks perpetually filthy and covered in dust. 😁

There is actually a thread where we went all out discussing the show Carnivale. I personally found it quite compelling and engaging. Apparently, they pulled the plug right after the second season ended, which was truly a shame.

Paranoid said:Just grab Suicide Squad, Terminator, Resident Evil, RoboCop, G.I. Joe vs. Cobra, and BioShock, and you've basically got yourself a world-class film festival.😁

Thanks to my patron Adam Wright56, I currently have "Terminator," "American Ninja Warrior," and "Suicide Squad" on hand. I also picked up "Enter the Dragon" from another friend, along with the previously mentioned "Ninja Assassin" and "Dragon Ninja."

I have to breeze through a few exams this September before I can actually dive into reviewing them. I watched "Terminator" at a friend's place this past Saturday, and honestly, the movie was a total mess. Hence the avatar. 🙂

I've now added a link to the original image within this lovely little haiku I swiped from a comic strip.🙂

And then I could sit there using complex flowcharts to explain exactly which parts were supposed to be funny.😬

I’ve always had a particular weakness for those Mostar Melody tracks. After that, I’d say the Istria Melody and Gulf Coast sets come next, followed by the NPR festival... Honestly, there seems to be a new festival popping up every single week.

Oh, absolutely. And then she ends up with that geek guy! Thrilling. 😍

It's never been stated that documentaries "ideally must be objective."

<shrug>
I am referring to my own personal taste. Official definitions aren't really my concern.
That’s the difference between journalists and historians. A film is an entirely different beast; you become subjective the very moment you turn on the camera.

In this particular instance, I find myself agreeing with northerncrane4. Humans are inherently subjective creatures. If anything, that serves as more reason for an author to at least attempt to provide a somewhat balanced view of an event. We all know they won't succeed, but it would be nice if they tried.

In my opinion, Michael Moore doesn't even bother attempting to be objective. However, I suppose I have to admit that his lack of objectivity is part of what makes his work entertaining for me. What I *don't* do with his films is take them at face value.

I hate to admit it, but that’s actually a pretty sharp observation.

I found the movie quite engaging, though I don't approach works like 11>> or > as strict documentaries; rather, I view them as cinematic essays. You know those columns > writes for >? That’s essentially the vibe I get from > documentaries. He is entertaining and charismatic, which I appreciate, yet I never get the impression that he is attempting to be as objective as a documentary filmmaker ideally ought to be. > has his own specific perspective and critique of the American reality, which may or may not be entirely accurate. Consequently, whenever I watch his films, as much as I enjoy them, two questions always dampen my enthusiasm:

1) Are these films actually good because they are informative, or simply because they cater to our own chauvinistic prejudices about Americans?

2) One wonders how such an engaging and provocative director would fare in a place like London if he attempted to describe the crimes of the British Army or mock supporters of [[placeholder_equivalent_to_Gotovina]]. Americans, regardless of their flaws, at least have > and they let him do his thing.

Honestly, don't waste too much energy worrying about Brian Williams. He might sound like an idiot and write like an idiot, but don't let the nuance fool you: he truly is an idiot.

As you can tell from my signature and avatar, he's been replaced—at least for the time being—by someone significantly cooler.

I haven't seen much from Brian De Palma, but I thought "Snake Eyes," starring Nicolas Cage, Gary Sinise, and Carl Gugino, was excellent. Having just watched this 1980 film by De Palma for the first time, I have to say I was quite impressed.

Roger Allen3 said:I already posted this over in the television subforum, but I think it’s worth repeating. In light of the upcoming James Bond film marathon, Ethan Perez97 and I are launching a series of highly significant polls centered on the franchise.

Here is my immediate suggestion for our first poll: which Bond girl has the most ridiculous name?

Personally, Pussy Galore is currently leading my list. Though, there was one whose surname was actually Goodnight.😬

Rebecca Miller2 - basically Ivan Lukic - has been hanging around this forum for at least four years now. I actually witnessed his early rants back when I was still posting in the Religion and Philosophy section, during my younger and much more naive days. You have to understand that Rebecca Miller2 maintains a rather hostile relationship with the Catholic Church, which—by his own admission—has tried to take him out on several occasions because of his preaching the TRUTH. He is just such an extreme Christian that he finds fault with everyone: gays, lesbians, Wall Street, communists, women, and even fellow Catholics and Protestants alike.

Every news group and forum needs one person like this. 😂

I watched it for the first time on DivX, and my immediate reaction was, "Damn it, this is a movie you have to see on the big screen." It was quite a thrill when Hero finally made its way to Cinestar! 🙂

Ethan Perez97 said:Is that really what people are saying after his latest movie aired on ABC?

I suppose everyone is suddenly going to be a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone now. 😁

Well, by pure coincidence, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s "Brisac" is playing this weekend, so I imagine that temporary Sylvester Stallone hype will balance itself out immediately.

I still recall the teaser trailer for that movie—it featured a scene where the Plague flies right past the moon—but I’ve never actually sat down to watch the film itself.😢
