loneowl45 said:I remember watching Mike Nichols when I was just a kid—it’s one of those great memories—and then yesterday I find him on a buddy's DVD collection... decided to take a little break and watch it... and... hm... Anne Bancroft is incredible as Mrs. Robinson, and Dustin Hoffman as the young Braddock is maybe a bit too "extra"—but hey, I guess the role called for it... all in all, a beautiful movie, visually stunning for me personally, even if the plot feels a little stretched... but whatever... and that soundtrack... man... that soundtrack is legendary...😁

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else has seen it and what you guys think?

Anne Bancroft was only 37 when she played Mrs. Robinson, yet they made her look at least 15 years older. 😁
Thank God for progress...

Think you'll actually get around to watching it before I do?... 🤣

I actually think you've got it wrong...
I can't quite pin down which specific fallacy you're aiming at here. 😁
Is it Ad hoc, or maybe an Irrelevant conclusion? Honestly, I'm leaning towards a non sequitur. (That's one of those logic slips people make all the time over here in the States, so don't feel targeted by this...)

But let me ask you something—do you think Wagner was any less of an artistic genius just because he held antisemitic views and was a favorite of the Nazi regime? Or what about Knut Hamsun?

You've gotta learn to separate the two. A great artist can be a total piece of work as a human being, but the craft is judged on its own merits—artistic ones. Thank God for that.

Most people who dive into Robert Ludlum novels don't end up disappointed... 🙂I thought both Identity and Supremacy were top-tier—and I'm pretty sure you guys will dig Ultimatum too. 🎉

The movie is solid for what it aims to be—just a straight-up spy thriller. Honestly, the book handles everything way better, but we're talking about two totally different mediums here, so why get into it now... 😁
So... 😲

A list without Apocalypse Now? 😲

Total amateurs! 🙂

I thought it was super interesting too 👍 I’d definitely watch it again—it’s such a different take on WWII, for sure...

As far as I know, he’s one of those rare ones—basically the only one—who actually got into Juilliard at sixteen. So much for "talent"...

Val Kilmer is a legit actor—a true thespian in every sense of the word... I just don't get why he ends up in these total flops, honestly...

Eh, it's fine... I was really hoping to catch Kilmer in something like Salton Sea. Not quite my vibe though—anyway, moving on... actually, I'm waiting for Bang, Bang, Kiss, Kiss... word is it's pretty good.

So that means I wasn't the only one who watched it 😲?

If you're into those psycho-thrillers that almost hit the mark—and love pointing out logic gaps and random non sequiturs—you gotta check this one out...

The movie could've been way better if the director, producers, and writer actually tried to flesh out the characters and plot beyond just the basic premise. Which isn't bad, though—the whole idea of the FBI training a squad of specialists to hunt down serial killers is solid.
There are a few decent crime scenes, and having LL Cool J & Val Kilmer is a plus, but even they can't save this total disaster of a film.

"Bonus": the most annoying character dies last... 🙂 🙄

That shot of Mars is pretty cool. Reminds me of one I snapped way back at an observatory during an Astronomy class...
👍

I'm not expecting much from War of the Worlds, but I'll probably check it out just in case. Better to keep my expectations low—saves me from getting disappointed later...
Saw the trailer, though. Really hoping there's actually some substance behind all those gorgeous, terrifying special effects.

Honestly, without private ownership and some decent old-school entrepreneurship, there’s just no progress—no real prosperity. It's like, if everyone owns it, then nobody actually cares about it.

Unbelievable. Just inhuman. Total business suicide.
