Jack Reacher: Never Back Down (2016) in Movies ·
Joshua Kern said:The plot really brings to mind Pad Olympic, so maybe that’s why they haven't turned it into a movie...

Well, Pad Olympic is basically an indirect adaptation anyway. I actually read this short interview where the author mentioned that filing a lawsuit would just be a waste of everyone's time.

Morgan Brown4 said:The first book, transfer of Power, came out in 1999.
AA dropped in 2010.

No clue, honestly. I guess at least our translators follow some kind of order...

Morgan Brown4 said:And now we’re seeing the exact same thing happen with American Assassin.

How? Simple—American mercenary is actually the first book in the series.

Joshua Kern said:I just don't get why they chose to adapt the seventh book in the series first. It would've made way more sense to follow the chronological order so we could actually get to know Jack properly... plus, the first book (Killing Flor) is top-tier stuff, so they really could've had much better material for a movie.

The real issue is that the writer is backtracking now, too. "The Affair" takes place before Killing Flor—it's that last case right before he leaves the service—and then we've got night school where Jack is still active duty. That's the headache with these long-running series... they jump all over the timeline, especially when they drag on for years and the writer is just looking to squeeze out a few more bucks...

Mission: Impossible, Charlie's Angels... those are the big ones everyone remembers. In Angel, you had John Forsyth voicing that invisible boss again, which was always such a slick little touch.

Then there’s that whole category of TV movies that basically act as a series wrap-up—kind of like the "final word" on a show.

The Streets of San Francisco actually happened about 15 years after the original show wrapped up. Karl Malden stepped back into the lead role, though Michael Douglas didn't show up—he was offered a tiny cameo, but apparently he just couldn't squeeze it into his schedule with everything else he had going on.

Homicide is another one following the series conclusion. It wasn't exactly a masterpiece or anything, but honestly, it was pretty cool just seeing all those old characters back together again.

Hunter follows the same pattern—it was one of those gritty crime shows that dominated the 80s, eventually getting at least three or four TV movies before they even tried a revival back in 2003.

It was actually the opposite with Blue Thunder, where the movie actually paved the way for a short-lived series afterward.

You guys just proved my point—smart comedy is officially dead because there’s zero incentive to actually write anything clever anymore. I guess you’re all just itching for the next Jumanji sequel to hit theaters 🤷

This is so ridiculous it's freaking hilarious:

That part where they're tripping out on drugs...
I watched those movies back in the day and I can still picture so many of the scenes in my head...

Honestly, Jonah Hill is probably one of the least funny guys in Hollywood—and man, the competition is stiff when you look at guys like The Rock, Tucker, Black, or Hart... plus the humor is just your typical, blunt, low-brow American slapstick. You might be the first person I've ever run into who actually thinks these movies are funny...

Total CinemaSins vibes here—just explosions, hype, and pure chaos! 😁

But honestly? I have zero clue what I just watched. Like, seriously... just total brain fog. The only bright spots were A. H. (who’s always solid, obviously) and that British actress—she actually has some decent comedic chemistry with Marley. Other than that... yeah, it was pretty much a bust.

I honestly don’t get it—this whole thing felt like a total waste of time. I have no clue why they always take these "serious" shows and try to turn them into movies that sit right on that awkward line between being a parody and just being... well, not funny. The original series was just some chill, B-movie action stuff—perfect for when you want to turn your brain off and just relax... but this? This was just plain boring. It reminds me of those other disasters, like Starsky and Hutch or 21 Jump Street.

dustycanyon5 said:So you watched Eraserhead... sorry to be the one to break it to you, but I gotta disappoint you here. 😉

Then you kind of lose the ability to explain why it's actually a masterpiece. Plus, what you just wrote feels a little too much like you just ripped off the post above it... 🍿

I don't even bother checking nytimes.com.

That’s basically my go-to response when people bring up PornHub. Like, seriously, it's never happened—it doesn't just pop up on my screen by accident...

Do we seriously have to drag > into every single thread? Seriously, the next person who brings it up... you already know how this ends.
Patrick Martin said:I seriously can't believe I actually have to spell this out for you. You’re judging it based on its genre/subgenre—meaning if a flick is Sci-fi monster horror action adventure, you're weighing it by whether it actually delivers on those specific beats or just fails to show up...🤷

(and Columbo definitely isn't that, unless we're trying to turn this into some kind of cinematic daycare?)
you shouldn't be digging through it looking for deep dialogues or high-level romantic tension... what a joke...

It's pretty clear you don't even get what you're saying.

Judging a movie by its genre is just plain stupid—you judge it by the overall vibe. Sure, you can toss in certain elements (drama, horror, sci-fi...), but you're still evaluating the total experience. Because—and here's the kicker, pay attention—take any movie out of its genre context and it falls apart. Sophie's Choice? That's just some dumb sci-fi. James Bond—zero drama there. Alien - motherless, what a tasteless comedy. See my point? You aren't grading the genre, you're grading the cinematic impact.
Patrick Martin said:I seriously can't believe you actually typed this out... I just can't...🤦

Patrick Martin said:...since that genre is judged by its specific tropes rather than some arbitrary set of personal biases or "common sense" opinions.

Did you actually write this, or are you trolling? 🤷

So, according to you, 1492 is just a bad Slasher horror action fantasy sci-fi film because those genres are everywhere and this movie doesn't fit any of them, so it's automatically trash. 🤷 That's your logic. We aren't even looking at whether the movie is actually good or not—we're just deciding if it's bad based solely on what category it falls into... which is apparently all that matters. Total nonsense.🤷
Patrick Martin said:I honestly don't get why people are downplaying this masterpiece—I just don't get it...

Of course you don't get it, because once you lump a movie like that into the Slasher horror ACTION SF category, it’s basically trash in everyone's eyes. That’s just how grading works... I mean, isn't that the same logic you've been using for the last few posts?
bluebison8 said:He kicked off this whole debate because things weren't going his way—he lost his cool, started throwing out bans, insulting people, and even threatening to abuse mod powers or wipe posts (from several users)... basically just acting out.

The only ban issued here was actually for this specific post...

I see briskhound2 is still clinging to his little fantasy. Either that, or he’s so bored at work that trolling is his only source of entertainment.

Deleted posts aren't gone forever; admins can still see them. Honestly, I’d love for them to take a look since I cleared a few without issuing formal strikes, so I could always fix that if needed. But look, you and facersplaca aren't adding anything to the conversation—you're just trolling, nitpicking the moderation, and attacking the mods... only to turn around and play the victim like there's some massive crackdown happening.

None of them.

Allied (2016) in Movies ·
Pretty dull, honestly. If there had been even a shred of actual chemistry between the leads, I might have actually enjoyed watching their romance play out—but instead, it felt like they just laid two planks of wood on the floor and told us, "Hey, you guys are madly in love now." The second half was totally predictable too... just no real plot and still lacking any genuine emotion.

Plus, those ladies haven't really had much to do on screen lately.

Actually, Kate has—and she's had some pretty solid ones, too. What really trips me out about those two franchises is how every sequel somehow costs less than the last one, without actually looking cheap in terms of VFX or sets, yet they still pull in nearly double the cash. Even if the sequels themselves are total garbage, you have to admit... it’s a pretty brilliant way to run a business.
