I mean, aside from Cobra and Commando, it’s pretty hard to call any of these movies actual trash 🤔, IMHO.
Even Rambo and Rocky, which are maybe the closest things to trash (funny enough, both star Sylvester Stallone 😂), are actually decent films that are still a blast to watch today. 👍
It’ll probably be split between NBC and some other network like ABC.
I know for a fact NBC will have the coverage for Austria and Zoe, so I guess the rest will likely land on ABC.
The only thing I'm unsure about is this upcoming SJ tour. Usually, ABC would pick that up, but honestly, who knows if they even have the budget to cover the next 12 races... they managed to pull it off until now, I suppose.
Anyway, my rule of thumb is always the same: when every major network fails you, you just fall back on Slo 2 or satellite TV. 😉
Don't sweat it; the skiing threads around here are treated almost like a religion, 😬 so you'll definitely stay in the loop regarding schedules and broadcast times. 😉
Which actually reminds me... Lake Louise is in two days. I'll probably have to start a new thread tonight if the starting lists get posted.

Will anyone ever realize that people go to the cinema for entertainment, not to sit through some tragic sob story about two marginalized kids, two war prisoners, two minorities, or two migrant workers?
It's pure melodrama, dear nimblemarlin17. Just pure melodrama. 😉

The thing is, Howl is basically just the Americanized version of the name Howl.
It’s kind of like how Americans would just call someone named John or Paul if they were translating from another language. (I don't know, maybe I'm just feeling extra biblical today.)
Plus, if you consider the fact that for Japanese speakers, the distinction between R and L is practically non-existent, 😬 it makes perfect sense why writing it as Howl in English is actually the right move.
BTW, it’s weird how you're getting worked up over the literal translation of Howl's title, but you aren't saying anything about Spirited Away, even though the original title is actually "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi." 😬
Justin Patel said:What exactly constitutes a "USA film"?
I guess that's just my own way of describing movies produced within the old USA borders—whether they were made before, during, or after the war—where you see a massive cast pulled from all the former states. 😬 (And I really don't mean that in a negative way, so I hope nobody takes it the wrong way)
From what I can tell, Westward fits that description perfectly.
The two hours flew by like they were two minutes. 😍
One thing that actually made my day was seeing how packed the theater was at Times Square when we went to catch his show. It was just a Wednesday, sure, but man, you wouldn't have known it.
I mean, it’s a masterpiece, whatever way you want to slice it. 🙏
Man, I know that name... I actually sat through one of her movies once... but that's a whole other story altogether...
Which I'm obviously going to vent about right here...😬
So, back when I was a sophomore in high school, a VHS tape of glory and honor was making the rounds in my class. Basically, anyone who had "watched" it just passed the tape along and hyped it up as this incredible action flick and all that garbage.
Anyways, the tape eventually landed in my hands, and they were selling me on the exact same hype. I really want to emphasize how "cinematically vulnerable" my entire grade was, if that makes sense. I was a little suspicious of the tape, but I figured, hey, what's the harm? I'll check it out. I knew my classmates didn't know anything about movies anyway, so I wasn't expecting anything close to the masterpiece they claimed it was.
Anyway, I got home that night—we had school in the afternoon—and after dinner, I popped the tape in. And then the trailers started:
The first one was for the M.A.S.K. cartoon, and I was like, "WTF! Why is there an M.A.S.K. trailer on this tape?" Plus, the other two were for some B-list 80s action flicks.
But nothing could have actually prepared me for what came next...
The movie starts. It has that opening sequence typical of a Godfrey Ho film.
First scene: some reporter is doing an interview. As soon as the interview wraps up, some Asian guy approaches them and accuses the journalist of killing his father.
And then, the journalist and the guy just start brawling, kung-fu style.
Of course, that’s the whole movie. Just random, pointless kung-fu fights with zero plot, zero dialogue, just that terrible, poorly synchronized English dubbing.
I actually fell asleep a few times during the movie.
I fell asleep, sure, but I was the ONLY person in my entire class who actually watched the thing until the end. 🙂
Naturally, I passed the film along to the next naive victim, following the standard pattern of praise.
Oh yeah, we tried to trick our professor into watching it by saying it was a professional production... but she wasn't having any of it...😂
Keith Jones19, if I remember correctly, you could have caught that at the Sundance Film Festival last year.
Yeah... exactly.
We actually screened it last summer out in a suburb of Chicago during one of those local community film festivals. It was part of a series focusing on human rights documentaries and stuff like that, and we were just running it straight off a DVD.
I'm honestly pretty bummed that I didn't have the time to sit down and make a backup of the film. I guess I just let the clock run out on me. 😬
EDIT:
I swear, I can't believe you guys moved this thread over to the Film section. Seriously?
I was going to rename this thread, but then I realized there isn't a single mod bar anywhere on my screen... I mean, seriously, WTF??? 🙂
It’s just one of those things where they move everything out of my jurisdiction. I guess that's just how they play it. 😂
Paranoid said:Just throw together Suicide Squad, Terminator, Resident Evil, RoboCop, G.I. Joe vs. Cobra, and BioShock, and you’ve basically got a massive film festival right there. 😁
Who says we don't already have those movies? 😕 (I mean, where do you think CNN's new avatar came from? 😉 )

Explanation
Yeah, "Dressed to Kill"
I remember this movie from back when I was just a kid... at the time, that elevator scene was easily the most terrifying and messed up thing I had ever seen. 😲
Fast forward 15 years later, and honestly, that elevator scene is still one of the most intense and unsettling things I've watched. 😱
