Hidden email address in Software ·
slycrane94 said:Not really. You can actually see exactly which server handled the email by looking at the headers. From there, you have to trace it back. Basically, you'd have to reach out to the admin of that first server and ask them to dig through their logs... you know how it goes.

'Thought as much'... well, thanks anyway. 👍

slycrane94 said:Like I said. It can easily be hidden, faked, or whatever else you want to call it.

Yeah... well, obviously it can.

But is there actually any way to verify who sent the email, or are we just stuck guessing from home?

slycrane94 said:Pretty obvious. Most standards don't even require an address to be listed.

If you actually bother to look at the full email header, you can see which servers it passed through, which usually gives you a clue.

Yeah, I’m with you there... it seems totally logical to me that the header should show who sent the damn thing.

The weird part is that this happened to a friend of mine, and she was asking me exactly how to "unmask" the sender. She kept insisting it was somehow "hidden."

I guess... maybe it's my own fault for assuming people actually know what they're talking about when it comes to computers. When she said "hidden," I actually took her seriously. 😬

Whatever. I guess I'll have to see it for myself to believe it. 🤔

Hmm... what do you guys do when you get an email where the sender's address is completely hidden?

Is there actually a way to figure out who sent it, and how is it even possible to mask an email address like that in the first place?

The real danger isn't coming from movies or music; it's coming from parents who can't be bothered to give their kids even five minutes of actual attention before just tossing them in front of the TV to deal with them.

Then, of course, they turn around and blame everything else—"controversial" films, Marilyn Manson, techno music, or video games—for whatever issues pop up. I guess it’s easier than actually parenting. Heaven forbid one of them actually takes the time to explain the difference between what's happening on a screen and real life. 🙄

redowl90> LOTR and Harry Potter don't even belong in this category, because everyone would just vote for them immediately, which makes sense...

But you literally just said…😕… Nah…. forget it. *waves/sighs*
What's the best blockbuster? in Movies ·
redowl90> A blockbuster is basically any movie that clears the $100 million mark... So, Shrek is a blockbuster...

Ah, well... like I said in my next post... I guess I was just picturing some movie in my own head 😵 so, uh... nevermind the question. 🙂

Steven Williams5 > I honestly have no idea how The Rock ended up on this list, considering he made way less money than everyone else

Why??? 😕

Look... setting aside the paycheck he pulled in and ignoring any strict, textbook definition of what actually qualifies as a B-movie, I think “The Rock” is a textbook example of a B-movie—and a pretty good one at that.

Then again, I guess I just have my own personal definition of what makes a B-movie... *shrugs* 😬

redowl90> So, movies like Shrek...

wow... could someone please explain this to me, since I'm clearly clueless? What is this even supposed to mean???

Is Shrek a blockbuster but doesn't deserve it? Or isn't it a blockbuster but deserves to be? Or maybe it's neither and doesn't deserve it either??? What?

Personally, I think Shrek is a blockbuster, right up there with Independence Day, Armageddon, or The Matrix Reloaded. I guess the fact that it's animated makes it a bit of an outlier, but still... what the heck.
What's the best blockbuster? in Movies ·
I voted for The Rock because, honestly, it’s just such a terrible movie. I actually used to own it on VHS, but someone swiped it from me and never gave it back. 😢

As for Spider-Man and X-Men, I just can't bring myself to group them with the rest of these movies, so I'm skipping over them... even though they're actually pretty good, especially X-Men.

I guess I couldn't have put it better myself. 🙏

Hicks> He doesn't deserve that because he's a super-villain with the best plan ever—he triggered volcanoes on one side of the planet, knocking Earth out of orbit and pushing it away from the Sun, which caused a new ice age!!! Luckily, Spider-Man reversed the process and fixed everything...

W...w...w...well, I actually watched that episode. 🙏

Fair point... Respect! 👍

Jeremy Bishop5> P.S. check out this photo, Jessica Alba looks like she's totally worked up...

And it’s a bad thing why…???

Exactly. 😁

I mean, that's pretty normal... isn't she playing the fiery siren type? 🤔

Hicks>For example, look at Riddick's chronicles

Yeah... especially that Riddick cloak that fits him just a little bit off. 😂

Just fix your damn quote. 🙄

Eric Jackson43 said:I tried looking for the animated version, but no luck so far. Even on P2P sites, it’s proving to be pretty hard to track down. As for the movie, I just really hope it doesn't turn out like Tomb Raider—though, if I'm being honest, I actually thought that one was decent. 😬 Look, two movies like that are more than enough to satisfy anyone, really. Or—God forbid—you end up stuck watching Resident Evil.

A friend of mine just finished downloading it in a VHS rip.

I'll probably bug him to film it for me so I can bring it over to you...
Lilo & Stitch in Movies ·
hiddensailor> I feel like it's on the level of Futurama and The Simpsons, even if nobody can actually top those two.

Ugh... let's not get carried away here.

Look, Lilo & Stitch is definitely one of the few decent Disney movies we've seen in recent years, but saying it's up there with The Simpsons or—God forbid—Futurama? It's not even close.

Besides, those are completely different things. We're comparing apples to oranges. 😉
Was Walt Disney actually a director? in Movies ·
Well, obviously.

Back then, they didn't have massive production pipelines where you’d have 100 different people assigned to a single animated feature. It was much more hands-on; I guess most of it was just one person doing everything.

They were basically writing the script, directing, animating, producing, and everything else in between (maybe two people at most, if you're lucky...)
DivX vs. DVD: What's the real difference? in Software ·
James Roberts87> A DVD would definitely finish off DivX, considering you say everyone can afford them now that we have faster, cheaper high-speed internet.

😕

I mean, a decent DVD burner goes for less than $167, while CD burners can hit $67. You can pick up DVD media for about $0.60, whereas CDs are around $0.33. Honestly, when you look at the big picture, the price gap is almost negligible.

The only real catch is that you can cram six movies onto a single DVD using DivX, compared to just one on a DVD format... but with how cheap media is these days, I guess it actually makes sense to just switch.
Anime Recommendations? in Movies ·
Zachary Thompson2> Feel free to recommend something.

Well, I guess that really just depends on what you're into...

GNN made a solid point about checking out Cowboy Bebop.

Then, if you're into samurai stuff and all that nonsense, maybe try the Rurouni Kenshin OVA 1.

If you want some actual comedy, I'd suggest Ferris Bueller, but if you're looking for something with a weirder sense of humor, then Jungle wa Itsumo... and Azumanga Daioh are probably right up your alley.

If you prefer ecchi-style humor—you know, the kind based on sexual innuendo or just sex in general—you can't go wrong with Goldenboy, and I’d probably suggest Ebich - The Housekeeping Hamster too.

Now, if you're big on parodies, especially fantasy ones, then Slayers is the way to go, as is Dragon-Half. (Though, I suppose Slayers might draw some minor parallels to Dragon Ball Z... but honestly, not many).

So, yeah, those are some titles that are mostly easy on the brain and have relatively smart humor.

On the other hand, if you just want pure action, I'd recommend Last EXILE or Film Noir, but if you want action with a supernatural twist, maybe look at Chrono Crusade or the Read or Die OVA.

If you want a long-running series that isn't total garbage like Dragon Ball Z, then there's Naruto. Or, if that feels like too much of a commitment, just watch Tenja Tenga (it's only 24 episodes).

Hmm... for mecha, check out Gundam or Macross, though if you want "trash" robots, anything by Go Nagai works (like Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser, etc.).

For a total mind-fuck, try Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, or Boogiepop Phantom.

As far as decent dramas or thrillers go, I'd suggest Monster, Planetes, or Paranoia Agent.

Anyway, these are all series... as for movies, I think I already posted some recommendations in some older threads.

Zachary Thompson2 said:But for an anime newbie like me, the absolute peak has to be Dragon Ball Z.

That explains it.

Zachary Thompson2 said:It’s such a bummer that I can’t find versions online with the original Japanese audio; the American dub just totally ruins the vibe for me.

What do you mean you can't? I managed to track down all 291 episodes in Japanese with subtitles.

If you're talking about DBZ.

If you mean the original Dragon Ball, then yeah, that’s actually pretty tough—almost impossible to find.

Hmm...🤔...I think I saw something like that once. 😂

Who knows, maybe one day they'll film a LotR musical. 😁
