Best opening scenes of all time? in Movies ·

...just to back it up with a visual

What a stunning shot. It actually reminds me a bit of Autumn Sonata

Chungking Express — It’s honestly incredible how Roger Deakins managed to capture Michelle Yeoh and Takeshi Kaneshiro as they weave through those cramped Hong Kong streets with that high-energy camera work (I don't even know what to call it—I've never seen anything quite like it). And then, when Kaneshiro finally crosses paths with Michelle Yeoh, the narrator says: "At our closest point, we were just 0.01 cm apart... 55 hours later, I was in love with this woman." Just incredibly romantic. 🙏 🙏 🙏

Why don't you head over to the political forums and post those conspiracy theories there? Honestly—I think you'd find a much larger following in those circles than you ever will here.

The trailer looks solid though.

Honestly, I would have bet on the latter—you should really check out the Cloverfield thread. It feels like the exact same movie.

Raymond Ramos59 said:Every single fight scene from *Once Were Warriors* is masterfully executed. I personally love that raw, visceral quality—where you actually feel every strike landing on the opponent's body, and when people are sent flying across the room, it's because of pure impact, not some hidden wire pulling them around.

That’s exactly why I find *The Matrix* a bit underwhelming and frankly strange when it comes to its combat sequences. And don't even get me started on *House of Flying Daggers*, *Kill Bill*, or any other films where the entire purpose of the movie is the choreography—only for the action to fall flat.

In my book, Jackie Chan and Tony Jaa stand far above everyone else.

🙂 You might have forgotten about Hero and Tiger and the dragon.

You honestly have no idea how much of an idiot you're being. 🙄

Since everyone else is already tearing you apart, I might as well join in:

That statement is honestly 🙂 You've completely lost all credibility. 🙂

Oh, totally brutal! Even though you don't actually see the impact, I still got goosebumps just watching it. 🙏

When Edward Norton nearly beats that poor blue-haired guy to death in Fight Club—man, that scene is absolutely brutal!

I honestly don't think I'll be getting to it anytime soon. I just added about thirty movies to my Netflix queue, so once I power through those,
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
is next on my list. 🙂Go right ahead and spoil it, but please—just give us a heads-up first so we know what's coming.

I saw you starting to spoil the plot, so I didn't want to waste my time reading any further. 😉

I haven’t actually sat down to watch that specific part of the trilogy yet. Is it even remotely on the same level as the other two?

By the way—could you please put any SPOILERS in white text? You almost gave the entire plot away to me there.

Robert Bresson in Movies ·
lonelynx16 said:Over a span of forty years, he managed to churn out "only" thirteen feature films, which honestly feels like a deliberate choice—a testament to his whole "less is more" philosophy. He became legendary for this ultra-minimalist approach; he preferred using non-professional actors, relied on incredibly precise framing, kept the musical score almost non-existent, and let silence and sparse dialogue do most of the heavy lifting...

Even Andrei Tarkovsky used to point to Robert Bresson as his absolute favorite director, citing Diary of a Country Priest as his personal standout...

As I sit here eagerly anticipating his work
(I should be getting 12 out of those 13 films by the end of the week) I’d love for you guys to dive into this singular, eccentric visionary. Let's talk about his body of work and what kind of impact these films actually leave on you...

Mind if I ask where you picked those up? I'd love to grab a copy for myself.
