Eric Collins5, all the moderators, and honestly, most of us in general—we’re just people at the end of the day. Of course, we all carry our own perspectives, our specific cultures, our unique backgrounds, and those various environmental influences that shape who we are. But look, I have to say, if you're just going to spout nonsense without any actual substance and then try to shield it behind your "right to an opinion" or "freedom of speech," it starts looking pretty unintelligent after a while. If we were going to apply the whole "might makes right" philosophy to human relationships, we’d end up in a situation here where having two moderators would be more than enough, because they’d just systematically wipe out anyone they disagreed with. But that isn't how it works, and nobody can honestly claim they got banned simply because they held a different view from a moderator or an admin.
To put it this way, how much would I value my own culture and my upbringing if I just let every rude, unrefined person who walks through the door dictate how I ought to behave? It seems perfectly logical to me that I should stick to my own ways, and if others join this space, they should adapt to the standards established here. Where someone comes from or what their customs are doesn't really bother me, nor should it bother me or the vast majority of users on this forum. There are certain rules of conduct here; there is a standard for what is considered acceptable or unacceptable, and that is how we all conduct ourselves—take it or leave it.
The way you’ve laid out your reasoning serves as a very clear indicator of why certain people are chosen for moderation roles and why others certainly are not.
Hey there, rowdyhawk10. The user @sarafciger was banned for their post, and as for why it took such an eternity from the initial report to actually see a reaction, I’ll have to check in with the moderators to figure that out. Regarding the second part of your point, I have to admit, I don't really find Power Lock's response particularly convincing. Maybe the wording wasn't the most polished—I mean, God knows how often that happens to all of us—but I'm fairly certain the mod didn't mean anything by it; they were likely just trying to clarify the situation without actually taking a personal side.
Honestly, this thread has become a complete mess, just a constant stream of people bickering instead of actually sticking to the topic at hand. It’s honestly pretty pathetic when you have to sit grown adults down and explain how to hold a civilized, reasoned conversation without losing their minds.
I’m looking at steeleagle70's post and honestly, I don't see a single thing about cardboard packaging, so I can't exactly fault the post he was replying to for implying anyone was being slow-witted here
It honestly feels like everyone just glossed over the fact that this whole issue is already settled, isn't it? Go ahead and keep spiraling right where you left off, because clearly, that's the preferred pastime here.
Oh please, go ahead and bring up fascism one more time, I'm begging you. The subforum is going to run exactly how the moderators decide it runs, because at the end of the day, that’s literally what they're paid to do here.
A guy once told me something I’ll never forget: anyone can busy themselves with mindless labor, but actually organizing a business and seeing a project through to the finish line requires actual talent and vision. Look, OP, you need to realize right off the bat that if you just go around complaining about every little thing, you’re going to make everyone around you miserable. You need to pinpoint exactly what isn't working and understand that if you actually want results, you have to figure out how to motivate your people. Motivation can work two ways—you can push people with a stick or pull them with a carrot—but generally speaking, positive reinforcement yields much better long-term results. It is incredibly stressful for employees when their humanity is ignored and they're treated like nothing more than cogs in a machine designed to perform specific functions. That being said, given the general attitude we see here in the States, you still have to keep the option of firing people or using other disciplinary measures on the table for those who genuinely refuse to put in the effort. But whether you choose the carrot or the stick, you really shouldn't be shouting, swearing, or throwing things; you ought to be very careful with how you conduct yourself, because it wouldn't take much for this whole situation to backfire on you.
There’s also the option of a permanent ban, and honestly, the mods have plenty of room to get creative with punishments if they want to go way beyond what’s written on the rulebook—especially when you've got someone who just keeps doubling down on the same obnoxious behavior over and over again.
Go ahead and change your password to something completely impossible for you to actually remember. 🙂 Honestly, don't you think it’s just plain pathetic—and frankly a little malicious—to lash out at people just because you can't handle your own shortcomings?? (And let's be real, we both know you'll be crawling back eventually, even if it's just to lurk in the shadows as a guest reader.) 😉
Look, you shouldn't be forced to delete your profile just because a user isn't being an absolute jerk to everyone else It’s pretty much the same logic as saying you don't have to shout obscenities at your mother or blow a vuvuzela in the middle of a Target if you decide you aren't in the mood to go shopping—you simply don't go where you don't want to go, period.
yeah you can go ahead and use one, the other, or even both at once, provided they aren't covering the exact same topic and you haven't been slapped with a ban on either one yet
Gary Mitchell3, I honestly can't say for sure if we're even talking about the same person here I went ahead and activated the account without the plus sign and triggered a password reset email, but now I’m starting to worry that I've hit a dead end and there isn't much else I can actually do about it
Alright, I’ve taken a look through the reported posts mentioned above, and honestly, all I can say is they’re perfectly legitimate and follow the rules to a T.
Regarding how we track down clone accounts—look, it’s not just about sniffing out an IP address, though that’s part of it; there are plenty of other ways we identify them, some of which we aren't about to give away for free. 🙂 Besides, having multiple accounts isn't strictly against the forum's rules, provided they aren't out there causing a massive headache or stirring up trouble.
If Ariston decides to file a formal complaint about any of this, I’m sure it’ll get looked at just like any other grievance but at the end of the day, whether he actually steps up or stays on the sidelines is entirely his call.
