Let me try paraphrasing what I meant: I just finished watching the Monte Carlo tennis finals
Nadal was totally in the zone—that’s why he dominated
Verdasco played incredibly well, but he was trying way too hard, and that’s ultimately what cost him

Nadal did exactly what champions do: he became one with the ball
He had already visualized every single shot and every strike before they even happened
He took his excitement and channeled it into pure focus, turning those positive emotions into total confidence in his victory

Verdasco is great, fantastic, truly exceptional
But he just couldn't get in sync with his game or even stay composed within himself
Which really just highlights how powerful Nadal was out there today

👍

I guess I am the change I want to see in the world...

but I'm not going to limit myself to that... because that might actually get in the way of my own progress and how the world changes...

you obviously misunderstood me, which is probably why you wrote this..

stay happy! 🙂

It's easy enough if it's just me misunderstanding youla
but the real challenge is making sure everyone else gets the right idea🙂

Take care👍

You had me for a second there, then you lost me.😁

Nah, you didn't—those are just your desires. They shift constantly, fade out, or totally morph from one day to the next. People spend way too much time living in these illusions society builds for them. Honestly? You're just as lost as I am.
We really need to get to know who we actually are.

Okay, maybe we drifted a little off course.

how about ...
I am what you do for me.
I am who I am because of who you are.
You are what I do for you.
You are who you are because of who I am.
I am yours.
You are mine.

Ethan Johnson said:In my book, we’re basically just the observer—it’s just that most people are walking around totally oblivious to it.
I can tell you one thing for sure, what we aren't🙂: We aren't our clothes, our cars, the house we live in, or any of that stuff we go out and buy.
We aren't our nationality, we aren't our hometowns, we aren't even our names, and we definitely aren't our bodies.
I mean, think about it—your body is constantly shifting. Every single second we're aging, so in 5 or 10 years, we’ll have
totally different cells, different blood, maybe some wrinkles, or we might lose our hair... It's a big deal;
we aren't our emotions either! Just like the body, emotions are fleeting and they can actually be
managed—if we're actually aware of them. Same goes for our
thoughts. If the observer stays "awake" and self-aware, if you really get to know your emotions,
they might still sting, but not enough to make you feel like you *are* those feelings.

Society loves to slap labels and definitions on everything. But that’s not who we are. We shouldn't get caught up in those labels, because that’s where the suffering starts.
We need to realize who we truly are without getting tangled up in our emotions. You have to recognize them, but don't let them become part of you.

Hey man, does that mean you don't even exist at all? 😛

How do you handle your sense of self when you're dreaming? ...
(And I mean healthy, sweet dreams, not those LSD-induced ones... like Ethan Johnson's 🙂)

My take:

I am whoever I choose to be.

If hanging out on an online forum is considered some kind of battleground... then what actually counts as a "legitimate way to fight" ?
Can someone paraphrase this for me?

@ Brian Edwards6

It’s inevitable that other users' beliefs and biases will bleed through their posts... but these folks don't try to silence everyone else by banning people or using intimidation tactics just because they dislike an opinion. They don't derail the conversation by nitpicking every single word a dissenter says, nor do they needlessly shut down and lock topics every other minute.

A moderator is free to hold their own convictions—as long as they aren't acting in a way that actively harms the community itself!

As for whether participants should use their full names... true parliamentary systems aren't built on consequences, but rather on accountability and mutual trust among those involved.
The discussion itself is the ultimate goal, not the person doing the talking.

Sandra Ward23 said:Why don't you just report me to the moderator over there? 🤣

I honestly don't see what's funny about this. 😢

Personally, I’m all for stripping all the moderators of their titles and revoking their access.
We should just have a couple of admins left who only step in when someone reports posts involving obscene insults—you know, the heavy stuff targeting race, religion, or personal attacks.

Everything else should just be allowed to play out naturally.

What is the point of having a moderation team if they're just using their power for personal vendettas? I literally just got back from reading through the Diaspora PDF, specifically a thread in the chat where Queen Milica was actually insulting a user named Angelina. Then, frozenseal55 pointed out that she was using a second nickname on the forum, and instead of being professional, she started flirting with her, calling her "Queen Milica Butterfly." To make matters worse, she was threatening Angelina with a ban in all caps: "PERMANENTLY."

It’s just personal bickering and total chaos at this point.

All this just so they can wipe out half a page of comments a few minutes later...

The mods should just leave us alone so we can actually enjoy hanging out together.
They need to stop gossiping, acting superior, and playing God.

Moderators are supposed to serve the forum, not the other way around.

Hey, and honestly, it gets even worse (or maybe just more ridiculous)—the second you say something even remotely positive about Islam, people immediately tag you as a potential convert. You start getting those creepy private messages and invites to hang out online outside of this forum. Yikes!

([declined])

...and then, I guess, you slowly start dreaming about wealthy sheiks and obsessing over which style of hijab looks best on you (it’s like watching an internet forum user turn into Padmé Amidala or something). Seriously, yikes!

And all of this happens just because I come onto the forum wanting to actually discuss some controversies. Gross.

In my opinion, the whole issue with discussing Islam is that the signal is being beamed from Canada straight toward the coast... so, basically, to make sure guys don't get too "enlightened" by reading forum posts, they feel the need to shut down or butcher every single discussion until it's just surface-level nonsense.

Ego, this is a much bigger issue than people realize...
I trust you'll handle things however you think is best, just as you said, but you don't even really have to "think" about it: just take a quick look at what freedom of speech, tolerance for opposing views, and true parliamentarianism actually mean.

Angela Newman33 said:The real question is whether Muslims feel they have some special privilege that exempts them from scrutiny, or if they’re just afraid to confront their own issues because they aren't sure where that line of thinking might lead them.

Well, fine, let "them" stay on the sidelines then; let them opt out of the conversation.
But why shouldn't you, me, and everyone else who actually values open debate sit down right here on Reddit and hash it out?

Angela Newman33 said:Why does every topic involving logical questions seem to get shut down the moment actual evidence or arguments are brought to the table? It's as if people try to suppress the discussion immediately to settle any perceived unrest or "spirits."
I honestly wonder whose passions and spirits we're supposed to be soothing. If Islam is a peaceful religion and Muslims aren't terrorists, then what exactly is there to be afraid of?

Exactly—they end every dialogue by making sure "their" way is the final word.

I would find myself pushing back against that kind of behavior whether I were in the Middle East or not,
let alone on an American forum
in a digital space that should, ideally, be governed by the principles of Western discourse and parliamentary debate.

Angela Newman33 said:Come on, someone needs to draw a line in the sand eventually... how much can we actually tolerate from one moderator just because they hold the title?

A community shouldn't depend on a single moderator running their own personal online jihad.

Thank God you guys are here...
I came to this sub with the intention of filing a complaint regarding the way my post was flagged by the Orahov ISP on a controversial thread.

swiftorca57 is spot on when they say—and I mean this—that the other mods on the Religion sub are basically being manipulated by Shady, who seems to view that PDF as his personal mission statement and a tool to act far beyond the scope of enthusiastic moderation for this social space.

My plan was to start a thread titled "Islamism on the Religion sub" (treating Islamism as a term for political action).

Instead, I got slapped with a red flag for trolling and sexism. How?! EEK!
And all for a post in a thread asking "Why are people afraid of Islam? What's the harm?" which was actually the perfect antithesis to princessxx's argument in that specific discussion.
I backed up my points with real-life examples, keeping in mind the discourse of the topic where men and women are viewed and treated separately (purdah).

Not only did our arguments fail to reach any kind of synthesis—mostly because the topic was hijacked by a heavy-handed hand—but I ended up getting 35 penalty points after the thread was locked post-factum. In a fit of pure frustration (and having already been traumatized by the notification "You have received an infraction on Reddit"), I went to check if I’d been banned for being a complete idiot or some kind of vulgar person!

All this just because I want to exchange ideas with others and learn something through the fun, digital interaction of opposing views—engaging in dialectical, rational, and logical debate through cyber dialogue!

For instance: if I were to say right now that Islam doesn't recognize dialogue or any kind of debate, I'd be insulted first and then immediately banned on the Religion sub.

Rather than being talked down through a factual, dialectical conversation!

IMHO
Moderators are incredibly important—actually essential—for constructive, open dialogue within a subreddit.
They should be encouraging discussion, not stifling it or cutting it short.

Isn't the goal of any forum to have as many hits as possible, rather than a user base where half the active members are banned, or those who just lurk because they don't dare engage for fear of trauma, while a small circle of moderator favorites just roam along?

But honestly, looking at how the Iraqi police—or rather, the puppet police—beat that man, Saddam actually seemed like a saint by comparison
😲

In almost any other country, they’d just hand him a fine. He’d pay it, become some kind of local celebrity, and make a fortune acting like a hero who did something meaningful for his nation.

It doesn't matter if he missed!
he still booted him 👍
He absolutely wrecked him regardless 👍

By the way, I think I caught on the Australian news that he yelled "pig!" at him.

One morning I was watching a news program here in Australia, and during a segment on the US auto industry, the host actually agreed with his studio guests: Socialism

And honestly, they aren't wrong; it definitely looks like ☕socialism
.

This crisis under Bush is essentially the death knell for capitalism.

Capitalism has buckled. It just can't sustain itself anymore—it's finished, and it's no longer worthy of its own achievements.
When the state steps in like this, it's pure socialism 🙂
.
Ultimately, capitalism has engineered its own destruction. ☕

rustywalker42 said:Look, Lisa Morales4, seriously—Australia has zero territorial claims in Antarctica! What part of that isn't clicking for you?

I honestly can't figure out what you, rustywalker42, think is unclear 😕 🤷

it seems we just have different definitions of what "territorial rights" actually means 🙄

The Antarctic Treaty (1959) governs Antarctica 👍

Australia plays a leading role in drafting and enforcing the Antarctic Treaty protocols...

Terra Australis essentially means the Southern Land, or that far-off southern region.

There are actually seven nations that hold territorial claims in Antarctica:

France since 1924.
Chile since 1940.
Argentina since 1943.
Australia since 1933.
United Kingdom since 1908.
Norway since 1929.
New Zealand since 1923.

When we talk about "rights" to Antarctic territory, these countries treat it exclusively as a responsibility—focusing on conservation, stewardship, and scientific research.

Australia claims about 42% of Antarctica.

The area is known as the Antarctic Territory (AAT), established back in 1936.
- In 1947, the Australian government set up the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).

Australia shares its portion of Antarctica with other nations, most notably Russia, which operates its own scientific centers there.

The largest number of Australians are stationed there, followed by Argentines and so on.

Military bases, drills, or any kind of military experimentation are permanently prohibited in Antarctica.

Regarding the Cenozoic Antarctic-Australia era: roughly 30 million years ago, Australia broke away and drifted north from Antarctica... just a little something for those who enjoy geology and Earth's history.

Did you know that both Australia and New Zealand have penguins?👍
