Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
bluemason3 said:when I was installing, I split it into two partitions (a 150 GB primary one for the OS and the important apps, and the rest for... whatever else 😁 ). but after everything finished, it's only showing that 150 GB partition and none of my other drives 🤷

just head over to Disk Management and see what the deal is with those partitions

right-click on Computer-->Manage-->Disk Management 😉

Betty Ruiz35 said:I was just wondering... okay, so Adobe... what's the deal with 😕? I'm not even trying to cut clips here, just messing with the file sizes... but whatever, no biggie, I already grabbed a different one..

Hey, you know what works for you best 👍

Betty Ruiz35 said:so what kind of software could I use to shrink them down... just asking... yeah, I'll probably just grab a new 😁

If I remember right, HandBrake has that feature, and I think Any Video Converter does too—but honestly, what's even the point? Who knows, 😁

Betty Ruiz35 said:...or just grab a different movie instead?

Yeah, you could shrink it, but man, the picture quality takes a massive hit. Honestly? You're better off just grabbing a newer rip somewhere between 700MB and 1.3GB.🙂
But if you're actually trying to download stuff in HD, then we're talking about a whole different beast entirely.😁

Betty Ruiz35 said:I'm converting this to an HD Video file because I want everything to look crisp and high-quality (that’s why I’m sticking with HD Video)
p.s.-the movie is about 2 hours long, but the conversion takes twice as long... like 4 hours... driving me insane

anyone got a clue?!

Look, you're already killing the quality just by converting it. Like people have already told you, what's even the point of turning it into an HD Video when the original 1.3GB file isn't even HD to begin with?

As for your setup, the length of the movie, and the whole process... yeah, taking 3 or 4 hours to convert is pretty much standard stuff🙂

Gerald White44 said:Look, I don't even know if it was a beta or what... honestly, when I hit update, I wasn't checking labels, I just clicked the button. Now I've grabbed this supposedly "stable" version, so we'll see if the damn thing actually runs... anyway, thanks for the hand. 🙂

Did you actually uninstall the beta first?
🙂
I mean, before you went ahead and slapped that stable version on top?

Gerald White44 said:Yeah, you caught me off guard there... honestly, no clue. I'll go check it out now..
I think this one's pretty stable.. I'm using Chrome right now and it's been acting up lately.. before that, everything was fine...

edit, just realized it's 11... what even is beta? if it is, I'm out, man, immediately.

A beta is just a test version they're still working on, it isn't even finished yet 😉

why does my USB stick light keep blinking even after I hit "eject" in "Computer"? Like, the little notification pops up in the bottom right saying it's totally safe to pull out, but that damn LED is still glowing. What gives?

Mine does the exact same thing on Windows 7, but honestly, if you get that "safe to remove" message, who cares? That's the only part that actually matters. 😉

just toss another 512MB in there and then you can go ahead and install the 7 🙂
How to extract audio to subtitles? in Software ·
What cartoon is this even about? Honestly, doesn't matter. We'll just hunt down some subtitles... as long as there's some text on the screen in any language, I guess it works. 😁

Thomas Chase64 said:Hey everyone. I'm stuck. I need to translate a video—just for myself, so I can have it
on my PC with subtitles. It’s a cartoon, The Simpsons. A parody of "The Shining".
So, does anyone know a program that translates audio (like, turning speech into subtitles)? I want the cartoon with American subtitles. If there isn't one, could someone maybe just translate it for me? Someone who actually knows English? My skills are pretty weak. It’s about 9 minutes long. Whoever helps me out, I'll make it worth your while.

Look, if it's only 9 minutes, you don't have much work ahead of you. All you really need is Google Translate and Word, or whatever text editor you use.

Just download a subtitle file, open it up to see how the timestamps work, plug in the exact timing for every line, and boom, you're done.

P.S. I once tried translating an entire movie and syncing all the timing... even though the English subtitles were already right there.I translated a bit and then—bam—my computer just completely froze on me.😁

Charles Thompson15 said:So, until yesterday I had about 40 GB of breathing room on my C: drive, and now, out of nowhere, I'm down to 23GB???
I didn't install anything new. I check the C: partition and suddenly the desktop is hogging 12GB, even though there aren't even five icons on my desktop and the Recycle Bin is empty.

Just grab CCleaner and run a deep clean on the machine. Honestly, you're gonna be shocked at what you find 😉
Converting DVD to AVI/DivX in Software ·
Adam Garcia38 said:Which codec works better, XviD or DivX, when you're converting a DVD over to AVI?

I'm leaning toward XviD. Honestly, I don't really geek out over codecs all that much... at the end of the day, I just need the file to be in AVI format and call it a day.😁

Adam Garcia38 said:Thanks for getting back to me. Have you ever tried converting a rip DVD that's just sitting on an HDD in AVI...

Wait, was it already converted to some other format before, or did you just copy the raw DVD files (those VOB files) straight onto the hard drive?

Honestly, your best bet is just to mess around with those programs for a bit and see which one doesn't drive you crazy. 😉

darkheron39 said:So, I'm on the hunt for a solid DVD ripper. You know, something where I can actually dial in the settings to hit that sweet spot of 700 MB for the output file, no matter how massive the actual movie is. Is that even doable without everything looking like a pixelated mess?
Most DVD rippers don't even have that option... or maybe I'm just blind and can't find it in the settings? Who knows.🤷

I'm using ImTOODvDRipper Ultimate 5 on my end. If you go into the settings for Miami—look for where it says "infinite"—that basically means keeping the movie as one single file. I haven't ripped a DVD in forever, so I'm not exactly sure how big those files usually turn out to be, but you can pick a specific size there if you want. Just a heads up though, if you do that, it'll probably just chop the whole thing up into two or three different parts anyway. 🙂

Adam Garcia38 said:Look, I know this thread's already been flooded with posts. It’s getting pretty crowded in here, isn't it?

So, what's actually the best software out there right now? Honestly, who even knows anymore? Everything changes so fast it's exhausting. You find one tool that works, then some update breaks everything and you're back at square one. Is there even a "best" option, or are we all just picking our favorite headache?
Looking for something—ideally free—to handle DVD conversions? You know, whether you're pulling files straight from a hard drive or ripping directly from a disc. I just need it to spit out DivX or AVI files without making the picture look like garbage or the audio sound like it's coming through a tin can. Anyone got a recommendation that actually works?

Same here, honestly... which one is? So, what’s actually worth using as a media player these days? Honestly, everything feels like bloatware lately. You try to find one thing that just works without trying to sell you a subscription or spying on your every move, and it's a struggle. Is there even a "best" one anymore, or are we all just settling for whatever doesn't crash halfway through a movie?.

David

Yeah, more. 😬

So, you've got options. There's ImTOODvDRiper, but that one’s gonna cost you—definitely not free. Then there's the free version of Auto Gordian Knot, though honestly, the image quality is kind of weak if you're picky. I haven't really put Format Factory through its paces for this specific stuff yet, but it's free and supposedly holds up pretty well on the quality side. Might be worth a shot? Just a thought. 🙂

Look, you can ask everyone for advice and you’ll probably get five or six different answers, and honestly? Not one of them is gonna line up with what you actually need. It's just how it goes. But hey, I'll give you a few of the best options I know. Just take them for what they're worth and see if any of them actually click for you.

So, GOM Player. You ever sit there staring at your screen, wondering why some software just feels... off? Like, you try to get a simple video to run, and suddenly you're fighting a losing battle against codecs and buffering. It’s exhausting. Honestly, I feel like we spend more time troubleshooting media players than actually watching anything. Is it just me, or does everything feel like a chore lately? Anyway, if you're struggling with GOM, maybe it's time to look elsewhere. Just a thought.
So, I was messing around with VLC Media Player again last night. You ever get that feeling where you just can't trust any of the fancy, polished software they try to sell us? Everything feels so bloated lately, right? Just layers upon layers of stuff you didn't ask for, tracking your every move, probably selling your soul to some data broker in Silicon Valley while you're just trying to watch a movie. Then there's VLC Media Player. It’s just... there. It’s old school. It doesn't care about being pretty. It’s like that one beat-up flannel shirt you’ve had since college—it looks like garbage, but it works every single time you need it. Why do people bother with all those high-end, overpriced players when this thing just eats through files without complaining? Honestly, sometimes I wonder if we've gotten too spoiled by "user-friendly" interfaces that are actually just traps to keep you clicking ads. Is it even possible to find software that stays out of your way anymore? Probably not. But hey, VLC Media Player keeps doing its job, and at this point, I'll take functional over flashy any day.
So, I was messing around with BS Player again. Honestly, why do people even bother? It feels like a relic from a different era. You ever get that feeling where you’re using software that just feels... tired? Like it’s seen too much? Yeah, that’s this. Is it broken? Not exactly. Is it just old and clunky? Pretty much. Sometimes you just want things to work without having to jump through hoops, you know? Just hit play and watch the movie. But with stuff like this, it’s always a struggle. Why does everything have to be such a headache lately?
So, you’re looking at K-Lite Codec pack + Media Player Classic or maybe those CCCP codecs... honestly, they both pretty much come with the same player anyway. If you're gonna bother installing codecs, just pick one. Seriously. Why overcomplicate things? Just grab one set and call it a day. It's not that deep.

You could have all the players in the world, but let’s be real—these ones are just built different. They're easily the most reliable and the absolute best. Honestly, why even bother looking elsewhere? 👍
rapidbison24 said:Most of those are just overpriced commercial junk, and honestly, FFmpeg handles subtitle embedding way better than all of them combined.

Gotta set the record straight here 😉

Adobe Creative Cloud is decent enough, I guess, except it’s got this annoying flaw where it only supports .srt subtitles.

Handbrake is also free, and it’s actually a bit better for burning in subs because of a few specific options it has.

Gordian Knot is free too—it handles more subtitle formats than the first two, though the video quality isn't quite as sharp as the others.

Handbrake is pretty much the same as AGK, and yeah, it's free.

As far as permanently hardcoding subs into a video goes, Handbrake and Handbrake aren't terrible; they get the job done fast. But they don't really "hardcode" in the way I need, so I don't bother with them. Tried it plenty of times, just doesn't hit the mark for me.🙂

And everything I just listed? None of them are paid software, and there are tons of free tools out there that actually work.😉

If you're asking me, Handbrake is my go-to, followed by Adobe Creative Cloud.
