When it comes to online banking, those USB security keys are just way better. Remember back when we had to rely on those smart cards? It felt like they’d stop working constantly... and whenever they did, you’d have to go through the whole headache of reinstalling Java because the banking app was tied to it. Once you updated, suddenly everything worked again. Maybe it was just because the software we were using was ancient, but honestly, USB sticks are the move—mostly because there’s no Java involved, so you don't have to install anything at all. You just plug it in and it launches a portable browser version—in my case, a stripped-down version of Chrome where they’ve cut out all the bloatware just to make sure the banking site actually functions. To me, that's infinitely safer than using your everyday browsers... that's where most of the scams happen. You get hit with some phishing scheme that looks so convincing you think you're on the actual Chase website, you type in your code, and before you know it, they've bypassed your limits and drained way more than you intended, all while swapping out account numbers and personal info behind the scenes.
And generally speaking, just stay away from Java and Flash 😁 those things are massive security holes 😁
If you don't mind me asking, what's the deal with needing Java? Like, what exactly are you trying to get up and running...
Usually, it’s just for some old-school banking stuff—you know, those smart card readers and things like that—but honestly, it's pretty rare nowadays. That whole standard is basically a ghost town at this point...
Motherboard or CPU failure? in IT Support ·
It’s a bit of a struggle to follow along when you cram everything into one massive wall of text like that...

I’ve also got my doubts about that power supply. It might look fine because the fans are spinning, but it could still be failing to deliver enough juice to actually run things—so maybe just grab a new PSU. You can find decent ones for around 100-$67, though... unless you feel like cracking yours open to see if some chip is fried. Usually, you’ll spot a resistor that looks like it went through a bonfire, but honestly, it isn't always obvious. Still, try another power supply; maybe scavenge one from an old rig if you're not looking to drop cash on something new.

EDIT

You mentioned the motherboard is only five months old, but what about the rest of the components?? If the other parts are still under warranty too, just take the whole thing down to a repair shop...
I get this weird thing happen to me once in a while—just in one specific moment, really. Like, I’ll be halfway through a sandwich, right? Then after a couple of bites, it suddenly feels like swallowing is a massive struggle... almost like I'm going to choke. I just have to slow down, focus on chewing, and eventually, the rest of the sandwich goes down just fine.
It doesn't even happen that often—honestly, there might be weeks where I don't feel a thing.

Any idea what could be going on with me??? I really can't face the doctor over this... plus, I know I'd probably end up stuck in a loop of endless tests only for them to tell me nothing is wrong because it happens so rarely anyway.
Honestly, this whole virus mess could’ve been dodged entirely if you were running Linux—the code wouldn't even be compatible, and Linux would've flagged those hidden files immediately if they were there in the first place.
It’s not a bad idea to keep Linux on the side... just in case. And look, all these antivirus programs and Malwarebytes—they’re only useful if the companies behind them actually caught the malicious code and pushed out a definition update. Without that specific definition, those tools are basically paperweights. Basically, you might run into a situation where one program catches a virus but Norton misses it... or vice versa. No antivirus is ever going to be 100% foolproof.
Plus, I definitely wouldn't recommend running more than one antivirus at a time.
Ever tried running it on a different PC?
Is it possible they just copied over those shortcuts instead of the actual photos? It sounds like one of those classic "oops" moments...
If that’s what happened, you aren't going to find any images because, well, they simply aren't there.
I mean, I'd still give it a shot, but don't waste time on basic recovery—grab something like PhotoRec or maybe some high-end commercial data recovery software designed for corrupted drives. Those tools dig through everything bit by bit to see if anything can be salvaged from the wreckage.
But again, if we're talking about shortcuts, the pictures basically don't exist.

So, what do you guys who aren't on daily meds take when things get crazy at work? Just looking for something to help me unwind... I'm trying to find alternatives to St. John's Wort—I read somewhere that you shouldn't be out in the sun while taking it, and my job keeps me outdoors way too much for that kind of risk...

So, for those of you who aren't on a daily prescription but need something to take the edge off during those high-stress shifts at work... what are you all reaching for? I'm looking for ways to actually unwind without feeling totally wiped out. I read somewhere that certain herbal stuff—like St. John's Wort—can make you super sensitive to sunlight, and my job keeps me outdoors way too much for that kind of risk... any suggestions?
So, I sent off a package to some country in Asia—didn't really overthink it at the time—but then one of my employees pulls me aside later to tell me the service I picked was just a $73, whereas the $57 option would have been a priority recommended shipment. I went with the first one because, honestly, it looked like the safer bet in the moment...
Anyway, long story short, she tells me the first option travels by sea while the recommended one goes by air. Does anyone actually know how long things usually take when they're stuck on a boat??
I wasn't exactly in a rush, but looking back, the recommended option seems like the better call anyway... it'll probably get there sooner and it's actually cheaper too 😁 😁 😁 Definitely gonna pay more attention to those details next time 😁

Wait, where on earth did you pick that up?

Look, your best bet is probably just heading over to the Microsoft site to grab the official Windows 10 installer—the exact same version you bought—and then you can just activate it later using the key you received.
How to speed up beard and mustache growth? in Health ·
Look, there's a silver lining here because
- you aren't blowing all your cash on shaving creams, gels, and expensive razors—which basically just means more money for a few rounds at the local pub...
- plus, you'll attract certain women who aren't really into the whole hairy thing. Some ladies actually prefer a smooth look on guys. Just look at those pro athletes—you know, the ones jacked up on steroids or spending every waking hour at Gold's Gym trying to get those abs popping. You honestly think they’re born that smooth? No way. They're definitely shaving so every muscle fiber shows up better.

So, what’s your build actually like... I mean, specifically regarding your chest or legs? You rocking a lot of hair or what?

My beard grows at a snail's pace too—I'm out there shaving at least twice a week just to keep up—but hey, look on the bright side. At least you aren't dealing with hair thinning on your head anytime soon, and your beard won't go gray on you overnight either. Just embrace how you're built... I mean, if you were an actor and needed a full beard for a role, you could always just glue a fake one on or something.
You should really check out that first episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Louise shaves her husband's back 😁 maybe that'll give you some motivation to just be comfortable in your own skin 🙂

There might be some medications out there—like certain male hormones that can trigger more body hair if you take them—but honestly, I wouldn't touch that stuff. You can really wreck your health messing around with that.

It’s just fear—the more you dwell on it, the more it grows until it swallows everything up...
If you're dealing with a fear of heights, people usually suggest climbing something high up just to see how small everything looks from the top—makes the whole thing seem trivial, really. Maybe give that a shot...
In this situation, I’d probably suggest hitting up the doctor a bit more often—not necessarily for yourself, though, but maybe just go along as backup for a friend or someone else...
External hard drive connection issues in IT Support ·
I haven't personally messed around with swapping those out, and honestly, my gut tells me it’s a non-starter—everything seems soldered directly onto the board as one solid unit.
If you're feeling particularly masochistic and want to play around with a soldering iron, or if you know a decent technician who won't charge you an arm and a leg for their time, maybe... this kind of work takes a lot of patience and focus. We’d really need to crack it open first just to see how much of a headache we're actually looking at.

On the flip side, you could always just spend about $67 on an external HDD enclosure https://www.amazon.com/external-hdd-enclosure/s?k=external+hdd+enclosure&page=2—basically, you pull the drive out of the old junk and slide it into the new housing.
Just make sure you check the drive size—whether it's a 2.5" or a 3.5"—and double-check what kind of connector it uses. It would be a huge help if you could snap some photos once you get it out so we can see what we're dealing with inside. You mentioned this thing is practically ancient, and I’d rather not cause any more damage than already exists.

With newer drives, like some of the Western Digital models, they tend to weld the wiring and the electronics together, which makes things way less straightforward. I doubt yours is built that way, but it's worth checking... 🙂

It’d probably be a good idea if you just snapped a photo of it, since you didn't really give much detail on the actual HDD model name...

Which Samsung are we talking about here? I'll need the specific model number and the name... just so I can track down the manual online.

Forget about trying to master the American language... it’s just way too complicated.
But honestly, if someone actually knows how to write well—you know, fast and with all their fingers—they shouldn't be having any trouble at all.
If you can't handle it, then just find someone who can.

Asthma Management in Health ·
I was watching this one Spanish show the other day—you know how those dramas go—and there was this little girl struggling with her Asthma. One of the characters decides to play doctor and whips up some kind of herbal remedy... basically telling them to just press it against her chest to help her breathe. They mentioned it was some famous remedy down in Colombia. It sounds a bit wild, honestly... I can't help but wonder what the actual science behind that is supposed to be.
How to get a neutral body odor? in Health ·
So, this elderly lady goes to see her doctor because she’s dealing with some major gas issues.
She tells him there’s absolutely no smell and no sound to it, just... nothing.
The doc just hands her some meds and tells her to come back in two weeks for a follow-up.

Fast forward to the follow-up visit—now she’s complaining about massive amounts of gas and an incredibly unpleasant stench.
And the doctor? He just shrugs and says, "Well, we sorted out the sinus issue, now let's see what we can do about your hearing."

To answer your question... no, that's definitely not normal. You should probably ask someone else if it smells—I bet you don't notice any scent from your own sweat, but I guarantee everyone else does. I'm thinking your sweat glands might just be working overtime...
Maybe this will help you out
