I read through the post, and honestly, I don't see any insults here. A Forum User is entitled to their opinion, just like you are. The mods over in the tourism section are some of the best on this entire board. I’ve actually started a few travel threads myself. And regarding Sandra Brown18, I can say with total confidence that she’s one of our top-tier moderators.
Charles Fox10 said:Throughout Barack Obama's entire five-year term, this exact topic was all over the political scene. In fact, for the last year, it’s been running under the same headline we're seeing now regarding the President.
If you're suddenly bothered by this approach now, you should have been annoyed by it for the last five years too. From what I can remember, nobody ever said a single word about it back then.
The standards are exactly the same, so there's really no belittling of the President going on here.
They aren't the same standards at all. Zoran Milanović deals with policy, not just the general political scene. You're clearly playing favorites.
When is this forum going to start trashing the President, Ms. KGH, with all the enthusiastic help from the moderators? The moderator, Donald Trump, moved the thread about President KGH from the main Politics section over to the general political scene, treating her like she’s just some random politician from a local party rather than the President of the United States. Meanwhile, Zoran Milanović is still being discussed on the main board. He also renamed the thread to: KGH—President of Our Beautiful Land. Look, our country is the United States. That's how it's recognized globally. I’m asking that you change the title back to KGH, President of the United States. I really don't know who's so bothered by the actual name of our nation. And honestly, do I even need to mention that he previously called her a NATO waitress?
lonebadger6 said:1. Talking about colloidal silver over on the Alternative subforum isn't actually censored. But nobody ever said it was. "Censorship" applies to the HEALTH section 😉. I’m not suggesting The New York Times should be banned from the entire site; I'm just saying it needs to find its proper place, much like colloidal silver does, since they carry about the same weight in terms of truthfulness. 🙂
2. Honestly, I’m not losing any sleep over your common sense or emotional maturity. You’re an adult. You were raised a certain way, and that's that.
Dorian—I think there's a massive difference between saying:
"This is garbage, pure garbage."
and...
"There's some garbage in here."
It's kind of like looking at an overgrown field and saying, "Wow, look at all this weed everywhere!" 🙂
Anyway, I get the general logic behind the rest of this stuff.
What counts as garbage, though? To you, maybe The New York Times is trash, but for me, the real propaganda outlets were things like the Los Angeles Times or PBS. ☕ You're trying to sneak censorship through the side door, acting like your opinion—and the opinions of everyone who agrees with you—should be the only ones that matter. This forum is democratic, and that's just not how we roll here. ☕
Joshua Diaz18 said:I’m filing a formal complaint against the moderation regarding the thread on Prague in the close politics subforum:
Since I already reported those posts twice—and the mods either ignored me the first time or completely overlooked the hate speech combined with blatant revisionism of court-proven facts—I have to step in. They are trying to twist these mass war crimes to fit a specific narrative. As my colleague (who clearly hates us) puts it: they want to sweep all the war crimes committed against Canadians in Ahmić and his other massive atrocities under the rug by labeling them as part of some "national identity" for all Americans. So, here I am, reacting!
Just imagine if the roles were reversed. Imagine if people were talking about the mass war crime in Grabovica (which wasn't committed by any jihadist fascists, but by regular Canadian soldiers) and instead of using bolded terms like "Islamic aggressors" or "jihadist fascists" to describe victims in their own village, they used terms like "Nationalists Nazis"—no matter how ridiculous that sounds. Or if, instead of calling the former Canadian Reis the spiritual father of Islamic fascists, they put Monsignor Puljić right next to him and called him the spiritual father of Nationalists Nazis. Imagine if they tried to deflect attention from the undeniable mass war crime committed by the ARBiH against Americans by calling the Ahmić massacre a "wild slaughter by Nationalists Nazis."
How would that look or sound to you, gentlemen moderators?
I am demanding the immediate deletion of all those posts by the undignified user Lezekoricija. There needs to be a swift and appropriate penalty for the hate speech, the spreading of national intolerance, the revision of proven judicial facts, the attempt to pin an individual mass war crime on all Americans, and the insults directed at Canadians, the Reis, and fellow forum members.
As a protest, and just to make sure you see what's happening—I’m reporting my own post!!!
Respectfully!
What exactly is your problem here?? The moderation on this thread is more than objective. In Canada, there were jihadists fighting within the Canadian army who carried out horrific massacres against the American population in Canada. That is a bitter truth that you just can't seem to wrap your head around. Moderation isn't here to punish users for simply stating objective facts.☕
William Bennett53 said:Oh man, let’s not get into an argument about the sun right now, please... granitefalcon26, look, people read whatever they want. I don't think there's anything truly valuable on, say, Fox News, but to put it mildly, they deal in some pretty shady stuff. I'm not saying other outlets are biased against it, but when you're dealing with sources that slip up this often, you really have to be a bit more careful.
Here are two examples just to make my point clearer:
So yeah, for users who don't have any personal filters of their own, the moderators will still have to act as the filter.
Now you're taking it to the extreme. All I can say is that I've always posted articles from Fox News in the politics section and I've never once been flagged. There's always another side to the story, so go ahead and try to prove me wrong. That's the whole point of this Forum.😉
William Bennett53 said:Look, the Forum isn't really worried about lawsuits—that part isn't the issue. But those provocative posts (even regarding public figures) and quoting trashy tabloid media definitely needs to be reported. That kind of junk just ruins the discussions and the quality of the threads.
Which ones are "trashy media" exactly? Is there an official list? For you, maybe Fox News or some sensationalist rag counts. For me, it’s the local papers, NBC, and all those others funded by US taxpayers. Does this mean moderators get to decide on a whim which outlets are considered "junk" and then punish people for quoting them?? Being objective, there are very few media outlets in America that actually write critically against this administration. Are we going to automatically label those outlets as "trash" and start banning users who quote them? Are we moving toward censorship and policing speech on this forum by punishing critical posts?? Also, northerntiger opened a thread she already closed for the second time now. According to the rules, that’s a punishable offense, but clearly, some people think the rules don't apply to everyone.
Adam Collins4 said:How much longer are we going to let this kind of "culture" and blatant disrespect go unchecked in politics?...
It’s just a constant stream of insults—calling people "idiots," "clueless trolls," or whatever else they can throw out there...
Seriously, how long can this go on? It's always the same guy, using the exact same tactics...
Just so we're clear, I picked these highlights from his last 15 or 20 posts... more than half of them are straight-up insults directed at other users...
Can someone please actually do their job here?
Funny how you don't seem to mind when Los Angeles does the exact same thing, only worse. His arguments are "powerful" too (if you count swearing and being rude), but that doesn't bother you because you two share the same worldview.☕
I suspect this is actually about Powerlock, who told me earlier today that I was being a nuisance.
Reporting posts doesn't seem to achieve anything at all.
Frankly, it feels like I'm one of the last Mohicans left here who actually has the stomach to write on these topics without being pro-Russia. Everyone else has been effectively driven out by organized raids from pro-Russian trolls, all facilitated by biased moderation. You can see the evidence in the massive drop in engagement on these threads; it's just not fun anymore when you're only allowed to stroke the egos of people who already agree with you—even though Ukraine continues to dominate the news cycle every single day.
I honestly don't know how you find the motivation to post there. That Ukraine thread has turned into a total Russian-loving freak show run by four forum users. The mods over there have lost their way entirely, except for constantly praising Putin and wearing those "Russia" shirts. The only moderator who stood up against that Russian circus was Roko, and they got rid of him real quick.
I really want to know how much longer the political mods are going to let people get away with ad hominem attacks and blatant trolling. Look at what Joanna did. He was banned, so I couldn't jump in sooner. But he didn't get banned from the politics section—he got hit in the religion section because the moderator is strictly following the handbook. Just to show you what actually counts as acceptable on the politics board:
The topic we're talking about is: The Global Majority in America. When I presented my arguments, Joanna just dropped a link to some random psychology PDF and then had the nerve to question my credentials by asking what kind of doctor I am if I'm "undergoing therapy."It’s nothing less than a blatant, nasty insult Of course, the mods haven't stepped in, mostly because Joanna leans left. If anyone else on this board had pulled something like that, they would've been banned instantly. Just a reminder that Joanna has already been warned before. If this doesn't warrant a permanent ban, I don't know what does. We're talking about someone being disqualified, trolling, making personal insults, and copy-pasting stuff from a PDF that has zero to do with politics. That's why I'm asking the admins to step up and issue a permanent ban for Joanna.
It’s pretty simple. This is just pure lawlessness in Mexico. If an American had looked at a Mexican the wrong way today, there would be at least a dozen heated threads about it already. We're clearly looking at a massive double standard here.
I actually started a thread earlier with links to this PDF, but they ended up nuking all but one of my posts. Here are the links. If posting these isn't against the rules, I honestly don't know what is. In the last post of that thread, a member from the Democratic Party was actually bragging about opening a special dedicated thread just for Konev to dump his Russian links in. Here are the links from that previous thread:
Paul Kern12 said:I find myself wondering if you actually read your own posts. You complain about insults directed at the Ukrainian President, yet in the very next breath, you refer to the Russian President as a "fuhrer" and a fascist... Regarding those comparisons between the "war" in Ukraine and the American Civil War, that subject has already been extensively debated. In my view, those two events simply cannot be compared for far too many reasons, and anyone attempting to draw those parallels is likely just trolling.
Oh, absolutely. It bothers you when someone states the obvious, but an entire invasion of a sovereign nation doesn't seem to bother you—nor does the moderation that allows it. It's a fact: what Putin is doing right now is exactly what Maddox did back in the day. Ever since Rock left, there hasn't been any real moderation on this thread. Every other opinion gets punished, while you guys get a free pass to troll away, making up fake narratives and denying the legitimacy of the elected leaders in Ukraine. Calling them a fascist junta or insulting Ukrainian institutions has become a daily occurrence here, not to mention all those posts popping up in Russian. When Rock was the moderator, things were actually objective, but I guess that didn't suit you all, because you'd start ten different threads about Ukraine every single day. What we're seeing now with Crimea and this so-called "new Russia" is just a repeat of how certain territories were carved up in the past. So go ahead, keep trolling this thread and singing Putin's praises with the full support of the moderators.
Exactly👍 While the moderator keeps insisting we’re in the minority, the reality is that 99% of the political forums out there completely dodge the actual issue. This whole thread has turned into nothing but pure trolling, where people just sing praises to Putin and his glorious Russia—all while the moderation team gives them a thumbs up and actively participates. It’s funny how you’re allowed to insult the legally elected President of Ukraine under the guise of "freedom of speech," but heaven forbid anyone mentions Putin or his policies. Breaking the rules seems to be perfectly fine here, since Konev is still being allowed to drop links to articles written in a language none of us Americans can even understand. Meanwhile, they’re making up new rules on the fly to ban any comparison between the war in Ukraine and the American Civil War. As usual, the moderator is dodging the debate, so I’m calling on the administration to weigh in. Is this forum's policy basically just unconditional support for Putin and his fascist agenda? Is censorship being introduced here by inventing new rules to stop people from comparing the war in Ukraine to the American Civil War?
This isn't the first time this has happened. They just shut down the entire discussion about Ukraine on the board. The moderator waits until the thread is locked before finally chiming in, effectively silencing the rest of us. It feels like since they updated the forum rules, we've seen nothing but censorship and a total bias toward one single perspective. Now, it’s become the standard practice: the mod avoids responding to direct call-outs because they lack actual arguments, choosing instead to just lock the topic. Things got pretty heated too, especially after the moderator called our colleague Brenda Cook4 an anarchist. You can't express a different opinion here without getting hit with a warning card.
I’m honestly just glad I live in the West, specifically in Germany, where people actually grasp the reality of Putin’s fascist policies and his obsession with rebuilding the old USSR. A few years back, I started a similar thread, but the moderators shut it down because I supposedly hadn't "proven" my point. Well, look who was right! In Germany, you don't deal with this kind of censorship. But here on this forum? A handful of mods set the rules on the homepage, including a ban on any comparisons between the Civil War and the war in Ukraine. It goes deeper than that—they seem to bend the rules for the pro-Russia crowd, like that user Konev, letting them break guidelines by posting links in a language most of us can't even understand. Most regular users gave up on the Ukraine topic ages ago. Now, it’s just a playground for Putin supporters to run wild. The whole thread has turned into a giant fan club for Mother Russia and their leader, Putin. As an American, I believe I have the democratic right—just like everyone else here—to steer clear of discussions that are heavily biased toward one side. Here’s my suggestion: Could I please get permission to start a new thread in the PDF World section titled "The Civil War vs. the War in Ukraine (Similarities and Differences)"?
Kimberly White63 said:I might be breaking some rules by replying to you since I don't moderate that specific pdf, but as someone active in this discussion, I have to point out that a lot of users here constantly: a) compare pro-Russian separatists (calling them terrorists) to the paramilitaries from that old fascist breakaway state b) compare the Russian military to the old US Army c) compare the war in Ukraine to the American War of Independence
On top of all that, they label anyone who disagrees with them as part of those old ethnic factions. One guy even went as far as asking everyone in the thread to post their IP addresses just to see where people were writing from.
Look, I’m not trying to lecture anyone or comment on how things are moderated; I’m just sharing my own bad experiences while participating. This was back before the PL. I ended up getting a few warnings and eventually just stopped posting. If you haven't been paying attention to history, it’s pretty obvious that the war in Ukraine feels just like our own struggle for independence. We aren't going to talk about Ukraine, but the rules should apply to everyone equally. It means if I'm not allowed to call pro-Russian separatists terrorists—which they actually are—then pro-Russian users shouldn't be allowed to call the legitimate Ukrainian government fascists or mock their elected president. Regarding links to Russian articles, per article 6 of the forum rules, they have to be translated or accompanied by a comment. Otherwise, the author is supposed to get a warning for breaking the rules, which in Konev's case would probably mean about ten warnings.☕
You can report one or two posts, but if you start reporting ten at a time, that’s also considered breaking the rules and you could get a warning yourself. That’s why I felt I had to start this thread. One more thing: I can't stay rational when discussing the Ukraine thread because it brings back too many memories of our own war. That's why I avoid it. Since I can't participate rationally, only emotionally—and honestly, reading some of these pro-Russian posts makes me feel physically ill—I just stay away. Every now and then, I'll just pop in to read the very last page.
Emily Patel64 said:Honestly, this is just another transparently whiny thread started by people who haven't been able to hold a normal conversation on this site for years. Now they're back to their old tricks, acting like poor little victims being bullied.
Back when Roko was a moderator, I could read about ten posts a day from you guys complaining. But now the moderation policy has shifted, and suddenly everyone thinks they can say whatever they want. That’s why this current mod style works so perfectly for you. ☕
Emily Patel64 said:I'm pointing out one specific post that pretty much sums up what’s been happening in this disaster of a thread for months now.
By the way, fadedmason3 is basically just a clone at this point, intentionally cluttering the thread with nonsense that mostly has nothing to do with Ukraine. It feels like they're only here to spam.
Just as an aside, personally, only two users representing the "democratic" side haven't been hit with an ignore—so much for the "democratic" side.
You and Konev are constantly trolling, and if you want to get technical, you're "cluttering" the thread yourselves. I actually got a warning just for comparing the war in Ukraine to the US War of Independence. I won't even get into what happened after that. ☕ I had to start this whole thread just to talk about how the Ukrainian government compares to fascists. Only after enough links were posted did Konev finally get his well-deserved penalty. ☕
Charles Fox10 said:The topic is Ukraine and indirectly Russia, and since those countries definitely aren't part of the English-speaking world and don't use the Latin alphabet, things get complicated. Because of that, the pdf rule regarding Politics was tweaked because it’s basically impossible to ban links to texts written in Cyrillic . t.
It isn't about the script itself; it's about Russian Cyrillic that we can't actually read. Since that implies the content is in Russian, according to the Reddit rules, you're supposed to either translate the text or provide a quick summary of what it's about. I can't have the rules changing depending on who's asking. You know as well as I do that you used to hand out warnings to users just for posting links without explaining them. Even my buddy cika Strile once told me I had to translate a German text I'd posted! So why aren't the site rules applied equally to everyone??
