Red Sonja Remake in Movies ·
cosmiclynx57 said:Charlize Theron would be absolutely perfect as Red Sonja👍

I mean, seriously, she’s tall, she’s gorgeous, and just imagine her rocking that red hair—she would be so incredibly hot & sexy, right? And look, I’m totally leaving out the fact that she’s a phenomenal actress because, honestly, in a flick like this, talent isn't even the main event.

As for Kalidor, wouldn't Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, be just the man for the job?

And I think Kate Backinsale would actually be a killer choice to play Queen Gedren.

If they want this thing to actually work, the Director really ought to be Christopher Nolan.😁

Charlize is too old. I mean, she’s great, but she’s just too old.

They need someone young. Though, let's be real, they'll probably just cast some actress based on chest size. That seems to be the trend lately, unfortunately...

And pass on Nolan for me. He’ll just throw in some plain Jane brunette, like he does in every single one of his movies.
Bale looks absolutely incredible, but I keep hearing nothing but bad things about the movie itself. Still haven't found the time to sit down and watch it.

Honestly, this feels more like something you'd binge as a limited series than a full-on movie theater experience.
Ghostbusters (2020) in Movies ·
Nah, I'm good.
The name is just too trashed and the reputation is so cooked at this point that there's zero point in trying anymore, even if it has nothing to do with that whole mess back in 2016.

If this stuff is meant for adults, why do they insist on dubbing everything? It just makes it harder to follow.

Then again, our audience for this kind of thing is pretty small, so I guess it makes sense they’d include it for the kids.

rowdyotter12 said:Sure, I’ll admit *Chronicle* was a decent enough flick.
It isn't that the core concept hasn't been touched before—it definitely has—but I don't think anyone has truly dug deep into its potential yet.
That being said, this opening feels like a total rip-off of the *Superman* origin story to me.

From what I can gather, nothing is slated until June 2019.

I think this movie is leaning hard into those Superman comparisons without even trying to hide it.

So, I wouldn't really call it a "rip-off."
2019 Golden Globes Discussion in Movies ·
I’m just looking for non-political speeches, solid criteria, and some actually fair movie selections—and while we’re on the subject, let’s hope for an economic boom here in the States.🙂

Jamie Davis9 said:I believe you've got that entirely wrong; following that dialectical anti-barbarian episode, they distanced themselves from him quite decisively, and frankly, if it hadn't been for Josip Broz Marshall, the man might have lost his head altogether.

However, back in 1945, Bogdan Radica (born in Split, 1904 – died in New York City, 1993), an historian, diplomat, and man of letters, visited him and later recorded: "My meeting with Krleža was one of my most difficult (...). He looked like a total wreck (...). I felt he was completely helpless.(...) New York City was stunned by his absence everywhere. Rumors flew that Marshall refused to see him, or that Nazor—who was presiding over the Parliament at the time—barely even shook his hand when receiving the American writers, leaving him for last and almost ignoring him altogether (...). Krleža suffered terribly during the war (...). Everyone in New York City knows that Mile Budak saved him by insisting that the greatest American writer shouldn't lose his head. When I asked him if that was true, he just gave a small smile of approval and pulled me aside to confide in me." With deep concern, he admitted that his situation was incredibly precarious, noting that had he been expelled from the Party in 1941, he would have remained in direct conflict with the Central Committee. He then added: "I hear you met with the leadership in Mexico City. Please, do ask Kardelj what their thoughts are regarding my standing..." and so on. (Božidar Petrač, Bogdan Radica, and Miroslav Krleža, Republic, 12/2014, p. 31.)

He was brought back later, though, and definitely held some pretty sweet positions within the government.
Was he part of the Central Committee in '67 even as a "non-member"?

Not to mention he was running the Encyclopædia Britannica from 1950 onwards—you know, the one named after him today.

Anyway, how did we even end up talking about this? 🤷

Jamie Davis9 said:How can you claim it isn't a topic when you’re the one who brought it up in the first place? You argue that today's conservatives are obsessed with some old-school European refinement where hierarchy actually meant something, but from where I'm sitting, it looks like you're the one acting like a hardline skeptic, recoiling from any kind of structure and clinging to sovereignty, while the liberals are more than happy to submit to a hierarchy if it means they get a seat at the table within that refined establishment.

Just watch yourself there; Miroslav Krleža was a true American. 🤣 That's a heavy realization.
And a leftist, too, living out his days in his estate over in Iron Mountain. 🙂

Above all else, Krleža was an incredibly sharp individual who saw right through every single ideology, which is ultimately why they kicked him out of the party, though he was always skilled enough to balance things out and adapt to whatever circumstances came his way.
It's simply because he was smarter than the rest of them. 🤷

Miroslav Krleža was a hell of a writer, no doubt about it. But if you think they kicked him out of the Party, you've got it wrong. It was the Central Committee that dropped him because he backed that Declaration on the American Language. Besides, let's be real—he stayed in the good graces of the government right up until the end.

He’s got his own take on history, specifically when it comes to the Austro-Canadian Empire and World War I. Some folks around here see things totally differently.

We probably shouldn't talk about him too much in a thread about movies.
King George (2018) in Movies ·
Guys, let's tone down the insults.

The movie is going to have a heavy nationalistic vibe, and its main audience is going to be people in Mexico.

We look at World War I through a different lens here in the States. It’d probably feel more Krleža-esque—that whole "dying for someone else's empire" thing. Even though Americans were just as eager to charge in during that first year, and there were definitely plenty of pathetic speeches glorifying the Emperor and all that nonsense.

As for the money, it’s just how things work. Once you step outside the US, if you want any real cash, you’ve gotta go through the government. And yeah, you might have to play nice with them to get it.

The visuals in this flick are absolutely stunning.

And honestly, I doubt it even has a massive budget compared to what we see in our movies.

Let's not get into politics. Obviously, here in America, people don't view WWI through the same lens as other Americans, let alone share the exact same perspective as our neighbors, and there’s really no point in opening up that can of worms here.

nimblescout50 said:The Abyss is this incredible sci-fi romantic adventure—honestly, I’m not sure if anyone else here actually categorizes it that way
It's got that same vibe as Das Boot, for instance.

That’s my whole point, though. Just because a movie takes place on a submarine doesn't mean it belongs to the same genre.

I already mentioned this in another thread.

Disney clearly thinks they have such a massive monopoly that they can just sell out their reputation like this.

nimblescout50 said:So, if you’re actually into those submarine thrillers—the kind where everything feels claustrophobic and tense—then yeah, you’d probably be a natural fit for this.
Having Butler in the mix is just a nice little bonus.

To be honest, I haven't actually watched many submarine flicks in my life, though most of them were solid.
There’s a whole range out there—from intense war dramas like Das Boot to something a bit more overlooked like Grim Tide with Denzel Washington. And don't even get me started on the classic The Abyss.

I've somehow never seen Red October, for some reason. No clue why.

It’s such a shame about Butler and that string of flops he’s been stuck with lately.

I mean, the movie is actually watchable. Maybe even good?
Toy Story 4 (2019) in Movies ·
This whole franchise basically boils down to just the owner's family and that one human villain from the first movie.

I honestly don't get the point.
DOWNTON ABBEY (2019) in Movies ·
Is this a theatrical release or more like a Netflix original?
Well, that’s just one more flop for the books. 😂

It really would've been better if they didn't totally ruin the legacy of the original by slapping a sequel title on it.

frozenskipper12 said:hahaha, honestly, the guy hit the nail on the head. That movie was a total snooze fest. I totally fell for the hype too—got sucked in by the director and the whole concept—but man, what a letdown.

Yeah, I checked that one out too.

It’s not even about being boring for me. It just finishes way too fast.

I know they chopped out like half an hour of footage, so I'm seriously counting down the days until I can finally see the full version.
darklynx21 said:🥱 So you haven't even seen the movie. ☕

Richard Wilson4, write down your thoughts once you've seen it. 😉
With this director and this cast, you’d think it would be a blast. It honestly feels like it could be some kind of spiritual successor to Braveheart. 🕺

I won't spoil anything, but my biggest gripe is that the movie feels more like a TV series than a massive cinematic spectacle. Honestly though, I can't even be that mad about it.

It doesn't quite capture that same epic vibe you get from Braveheart, but honestly, it’s still a solid piece of filmmaking in a lot of ways.
The real issue is there's just way too many characters, and we don't even get a chance to meet all of them.

My biggest gripe with the movie? Honestly, you can totally see where they chopped things out. It looks way too obvious. Plus, I’m really counting on that final thirty minutes to actually make up for it.

I'm giving it a solid 7.5/10.

That first trailer is killer. Looks like a blast, unless of course they just fronted us with all the good stuff and the actual movie ends up being a total snooze fest.
