Things will settle down eventually, but it’s gonna be late... Society is just too split right now, and honestly, I'm pretty skeptical that we'll see any peaceful resolution to this mess...
Saw some footage of the police lines and water cannons being deployed at the border to California.
If nothing changes, someone from the Green Party or the Democratic Party might actually end up taking a dip for the first time in their lives

How many people actually showed up?

Can't find any news coverage on that rally, but I bet it wasn't even 10% of the usual crowd that turns out for independence stuff.

You might be the first person I've ever run into who actually thinks these movies are funny...

He’s pretty terrible in almost everything he does, but he was actually great in "The Wolf of Wall Street".

I love Tucker, no matter what anyone says, even if those last two flicks he did with Jackie Chan were total cash grabs.

Robert Clark4 said:It’s not just one random thing—it's basically every single poll we've seen all year.

I mean, sure, maybe every single poll could be totally off base, but you can't just ignore the fact that the parties explicitly against independence (the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, and Ciudadanos) pulled in nearly 40% during those last regional elections. That's a pretty huge chunk of people to just brush aside, I guess!

Polls are just polls. Some get it right, sure, but most of them have been massive misses over the last two years.

The actual elections are what matter.
The parties pushing hard for independence (JxSí 39.6% + CatSíqueesPot 8.9% + Green Party 3.5%) hit a total of 52%.
The Democratic Party—the ones backing a federal Spain—got 12.7%.

Only the Republican Party (13.0%) and Ciudadanos (7.6%) are sticking to the status quo.

Robert Clark4 said:So, it honestly looks like a pretty huge chunk of Californians aren't actually against the status quo, even with all those flaws in statehood. I mean, if they were truly down for independence, support would probably be sitting at like 80-90%, right? But instead, we're seeing more like 40-50%... so yeah, maybe people are just more comfortable where they are than we think!

Where’d you get that number? Some random poll? 🤷

Robert Clark4 said:It feels just like what happened in Scotland. Everyone talks a big game about wanting independence, but then once things actually get serious and it’s time to head to the polls, the status quo usually ends up winning out. ☕

Even if they managed to pull off a legal, binding referendum, I honestly don't think a majority would vote yes. I mean, separatism without a real sense of immediate threat just doesn't seem to have enough fuel to actually cross the finish line—at the end of the day, it all kind of boils down to people waving flags and making noise.

Look, man, you've got it wrong. This isn't even close.

Scotland has about 90% more of the actual components of statehood than California does. That's why people in Scotland are way more comfortable sticking with the status quo.

As soon as I caught a glimpse of Jeffrey Tambor in the trailer, I was sold! 😂

This is gonna be such a hilarious comedy! 👍

Joshua Kern said:Even Scrubs works as a parody of those heavy-hitting medical dramas like ER or Grey's Anatomy.

They'll throw in some parody bits here and there—usually just some wild daydream the lead character is having—but most of the time, it’s just your standard sitcom.

I'd throw Dr. Strangelove in there too, a total classic.

As for this movie, it's a decent comedy with a pretty fresh concept, but I can't help wondering which version of God Bradley Cooper had to call on to get cast in something like this.

Personally, I’d go with "Crazy Rich Asians"—it's a modern comedy that still holds up perfectly today.

Believe it or not, there's this comedy series out there that's actually a total parody—Angie Tribec.
It’s honestly pretty solid, too. They've already got three seasons under their belt.

Give me five comedies off the top of your head that are considered total classics.
The Wedding Crashers (2005) in Movies ·
It’s never gonna be some timeless classic, but honestly? It’s a fun comedy.
The Bodyguard (2017) in Movies ·
Honestly, the biggest selling point here is just the two leads. Throw in some solid action scenes and let them riff off each other with that banter, and you've got a winner right there.😁

Box Office $ 177 million

Honestly, at least it actually made it to theaters instead of just rotting on some streaming service.

It killed it in certain spots—like, it pulled in 18 mil in Germany, even though it only grabbed about $58 million across the whole USA and Canada.

Honestly, I've seen way worse movies pull in bigger numbers. If this thing had a tighter budget and didn't go head-to-head with Pirates of the Caribbean, it could've been a decent summer flick. Maybe not a massive hit, but definitely wouldn't have flopped.
Last Action Hero, for real this time.
A movie like that would absolutely kill today, but back then, people just weren't ready for those kinds of meta jokes.
dustycanyon5 said:Honestly, when it comes to the whole superhero craze, all I can say is that Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy is the only thing worth watching. Everything else just feels like cheap popcorn flicks made for kids...

Look, Nolan's movies are definitely overrated, even if they are good.
Thankfully, all those attempts to copy his style with that forced "dark and edgy" nonsense didn't really take off.

Superhero movies should be colorful and fun. They shouldn't constantly try too hard to make every single hero act like Batman. There's only one Batman.
Kenneth Clark18 said:Yeah, honestly, I've been listening to them since they basically started. They're one of those rare bands that stayed together the whole time, which is such a shame.

Glad you at least caught a show while he was still around. Man, you never know where life is gonna take people.

I probably listened to their first album like a hundred times.
Meteor was killer too. I didn't really follow them much after that, but yeah, they were a huge deal back when I was in high school.

I also posted this in the other thread - RIP 😢
silentridge3 said:There’s really no point in wasting breath on how bad movies are lately, or whining about why they suck—you know, the whole bit about big budgets being hard to recoup, everyone jumping ship to TV series, fancy tech, new generations, or just people hating on good scripts and all that.

If you want that kind of stuff, just stick to HBO, Netflix, or whatever.

Movie theaters are basically just for kids looking for superheroes or parents dragging their little ones to see animated flicks.

Just look at the billion-dollar hits. It's almost entirely cartoons.

I’m still leaning towards "The Usual Suspects" myself.

It’s one of those rare flicks where I was actually blown away.
