How are we all feeling as 2022 wraps up? in Psychology ·

How to forgive myself when the guilt is overwhelming in Psychology & Therapy ·
Dana Davis5 said:This is such a great topic, though I honestly think we’re all just guessing here... just throwing out little fragments of thought... To me, the whole idea of "forgiving yourself" or trying to work through guilt feels almost masochistic—like a totally misguided way to handle things. We aren't saints, after all; we're just regular people tripping up over big or small mistakes every single day... there's really no reason to put yourself through some kind of mental penance because of it.

When you're talking about those massive errors or total delusions, I feel like you don't even need to judge yourself or offer forgiveness—life has already handed down its verdict. For instance, if someone loses their entire social circle because of that impulsivity mentioned in the opening post... well, that's the consequence right there.
I mean, what exactly is there to forgive when every single move you make triggers a reaction from everyone else anyway? It's all connected...

It almost feels pointless to forgive yourself for not knowing better or for failing to control yourself in the moment. If you actually had the capacity to act differently or stay in control back then, you would have done it. Simple as that.

But I will say, forgiving yourself for those major life choices or the times you fell for huge illusions... that's the real mountain to climb. I'm still stuck on that one myself—I haven't quite figured out how a person is supposed to find peace with those kinds of things.

Does that guilt actually have anything to do with self-forgiveness? Not really. Honestly, dwelling on it just feels like giving yourself a slap in the face for being delusional. 🕺

Honestly, you’d probably be better off finding some low-key physical gig—maybe something outdoors where you can actually breathe some fresh air. Personally, once I wrap up my shift, I need to just sit somewhere out in the mountains or by the coast and stare into space for at least two hours straight. While you're hunting for a new job, just spend your downtime imagining you're on a conference call with little aliens from another planet, and during your thirty-minute break, just play that little melody for them.🎉

Look, if it’s true, it doesn't matter who's saying it. And if it isn't? Well, then it just isn't.

I’m looking for an easy friend. Someone low-maintenance. No drama, no heavy lifting, just easy vibes. Like a well-worn pair of Levi's or a perfectly brewed cup of black coffee on a Sunday morning. You know? Just someone who exists in the same orbit without needing a full-blown meeting to coordinate every single move. No intense deep dives every five minutes, no constant checking of the phone. Just easy.
I’m here. I’ve got an ear for it if you need one.
I really think you’re the right person for this job.
I mean, I do, but at least you aren't totally flying blind here.

..just watch out for the dark side. 🧐

Maybe pick up a peaceful martial art—something like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or maybe Tai Chi—or find a sport that forces you to hold your ground and push back. Just be careful you don't accidentally wake the beast inside, because you never really know what’s lurking in the shadows once it's out. 😲

David Miller5 said:Honestly, what you're talking about isn't even that hard to pull off. Just apply for an apprenticeship in Germany for cosmetology—I think there's more info on the IRS website or something. If you pass the interview, you get free German classes, move to Germany, learn the trade, and work for two years at the same time. Plus, you actually get paid a wage you wouldn't see in America even in a management role. So yeah, just my two cents.

😒

And please, stop confusing a hairstylist with an entrepreneur. A salon in a major city has a manager. It’s a business, not a "come over here and cut my hair" situation. 😒

Honestly, Goluža is just a total amateur. He’s the kind of guy who acts like he’s already won the championship before the whistle even blows, then has the nerve to show up after a loss acting like he’s got something useful to say. 👎
You can always love what you do, 😵
but if you ask me—and I’m looking at everyone except maybe research scientists or surgeons—people ought to switch gears every five to ten years.
Sure, you might love being a hairstylist, but what if you're actually terrible at it? Then the whole town is stuck waiting for you to hit retirement age before they can get a decent cut. 😒
A real genius, huh? Sure.

It’s honestly wild when you see someone with those massive, dilated pupils—it just hits different. There’s something about that look when someone’s clearly on something that feels incredibly sexy.😒

I never really looked at them as mistakes 😵 I just didn't know any better, and honestly, there were some things I just wasn't interested in doing any differently.

jadecyclist36 said:Why is this thread even discussing God in a Christian sense? Or religion in general? It's entirely possible to be a theist without following a single dogma.☕Sure, you might get disillusioned with the institution and all that, but why does that cause people to abandon the entire concept?

At the end of the day, everyone believes in something.

I used to think it was a simple binary: you either swallow the dogma whole or you actually use your brain 😲

The "What If" spiral... in Psychology & Therapy ·
It’s easy being a doomsday prophet; you can always spin the worst-case scenario if you try hard enough.

The real trick is diving headfirst into a situation so messy and tangled that you actually lose track of the thread. 🙂

That’s just my theory, anyway. Go ahead and find yours. 😉
neongardener2 said:I get where you're coming from, I guess, but what about this: you don't eat meat because you love animals and respect them, right? But then you've got cats and dogs at home—pets, basically—that have to eat chicken just to survive. And if you want them to actually eat high-quality stuff, wouldn't they need raw meat that you're basically hand-feeding them? Since they're carnivores, am I supposed to just deal with that contradiction or something? Like, if I'm eating that same chicken at the same time they are, does that suddenly make me a hypocrite??? Honestly, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it...

Look, back in the day, a dog always had a bigger purpose than just being a pet; they earned their meal. Cats? They just figured it out themselves and were useful while they were at it. Now, if you think your dog deserves a little bit of raw meat, you either have to forget how things work or someone else has to go out and produce it for you—which means another living creature is involved, just like your dog. But hey, you can always just choose to ignore that reality.
