He sent me this whole thing yesterday: "A man doesn't realize what he actually had until it's gone," followed by some message thirty minutes later saying, "I'm sorry for absolutely everything... justice has been served." And then, to top it all off, he claims he broke up with his girlfriend, said he needs me, insisted I'm the only person who has ever truly understood him or been okay with who he is, and then tried to tell me that all those messages were actually sent by his girlfriend because he was having a complete mental breakdown after I told him I cheated on him.... what an idiot.
Oh, I just now caught this—Joe Biden! 👍
P.S. Just so you know—any posts where I’m calling people in America stupid or slow? That’s actually just my cat typing. So... ban her, not me! 😬
Harold Thomas10 said:Hey everyone... I’m not entirely sure if this is the right place for this kind of thing, but I’ll give it a shot....
To make a long story short, my boyfriend broke up with me a few months ago to be with someone else (and honestly, it wasn't even the first time; he cheated on me once before), but we managed to stay on decent terms... we talked a few times and hung out occasionally, just as friends. Then, a couple of days ago, he suddenly started blowing up my phone, asking if I was seeing anyone, whether I thought his new girlfriend was actually good enough for him, and why I hadn't tried to get back together with him after we split up. He even started grilling me about whether our sex life had been good (he’s always been pretty insecure about intimacy, which seems to be a recurring theme in most areas of his life, really)....
Anyway, he eventually jumped to the conclusion that the sex must have been great, because otherwise, why would I have stayed with him for three years and "cheated" on him? In a moment of pure, mindless sarcasm, I asked him how he could possibly be so sure I hadn't cheated on him (I know, I know, I shouldn't have said it, but it was just a joke, and when I saw his reaction, I was so stunned I didn't even realize I should take it back)... and that’s when he absolutely lost it. He started sending these vile messages calling me every name in the book—just total trash—telling me I’m dead to him now. He was cursing God, Jesus, my mother, everything under the sun. He went as far as wishing I’d drop dead from whatever happened with that guy he thinks I cheated with. He claimed I broke his heart, that I’m a terrible person, and said he hopes I never fall in love again and stay alone forever.... When I woke up, I had 38 missed calls and a mountain of texts just like that, sent all through the night....
So, basically, I want to know if this is a normal reaction for a guy who cheated on his girlfriend, dumped her, and acted like a complete lunatic just because she jokingly suggested she might have cheated on him.... I get that his ego is bruised, but the things he said to me were way over the line. To be honest, I’m actually feeling a little scared now.🤷
Thanks to everyone for the input, and sorry for the long-winded post:-)
You really should’ve let him in on the joke way sooner! But hey, better late than never, right? 👍
And oh, you can bet he'll send some pathetic, "woe is me" text within the next two weeks. Feel free to copy-paste it here—would love to have a little laugh about it. 😁

Just ask yourself how many ran for the hills after witnessing that absolute assault on grammar. 😁
Facts. 🤦 They fled. 🤦 I suspect. 🤦 Smoke and mirrors. 🙏 🙏 🙏 🤣

Just put your hand right over theirs while they're at it. Give it a shot, seriously—it actually works. 😉

I am sure there are plenty of other similar classifications out there, perhaps even better or more unique ones, but I found this particular one quite charming. It is pretty straightforward, maybe even a bit oversimplified, but it's fun. It deals with forum personalities, which could probably be its own separate discussion, but I think it fits perfectly with our talk about the various frictions between users.
If you look at the dropdown menu on the right, you will see a list of personality types. Most people are, naturally, a blend of several different types. I certainly am. 😁 And I suspect Michelle Alvarez8 would recognize herself in some of them. 😁 In fact, most of the virtual personality types we have been describing in this thread are covered here.
I want to highlight one specific type—The Godfather—because his description touches on some meatier points regarding micro-sociological or socio-psychological aspects, most notably within groups or those tiny little cliques 😬, as the author puts it, which is something we have touched upon in this thread:
Forums often contain one or more unacknowledged sub-societies, but everyone except the most clueless know that these groups exist and constantly feel their influence. Such alliances congeal because of similarities in ideas and attitudes, or for the desire for power and influence within the forum. Since human beings are hierarchical creatures each of these these little mafias always have a Godfather who is surrounded by a cadre of loyal henchmen. Unlike Rebel leader, Issues, Furious Typer and other noisy Warriors, Godfather only occasionally deigns to enter into discussions, but when he does everyone listens to him respectfully and his pronouncements have an air of finality. Though Godfather himself never engages in battle, it is commonly understood that his utterances should not be challenged, and when an unsuspecting Newbie or ambitious wannabe mounts a challenge to his authority Godfather’s henchmen viciously silence or drive away the attacker.
Nope. 😢 All I know for sure is that I'm not leading—or even part of—any kind of group.
Curiosity? Just for kicks? Maybe a way to figure out how I actually tick? Honestly—I don't have a perfect answer for you. But if you're asking if I'm doing this to feel calmer or happier... well, no. That’s not it. I've got other ways to unwind, and truth be told, I actually get a little kick out of it when people prove me wrong about them. Usually because I've been judging them a bit too harshly in my head. 😬

I tend to agree, though. This whole trend of oversharing feels wrong to me. Even with the "anonymity" factor, whenever I feel like someone is dumping raw, intimate details right in my face, I just end up feeling deeply saddened by it.
Couldn't they at least abstract those feelings? You know, speak in generalities or hypothetical scenarios instead of being so blunt and lacking any subtlety... it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
There’s a Twitter thread somewhere about it. One was mine, and the other was started using an alt account. The whole experiment was set up so that I—using the Michelle Alvarez8 account—started a thread based on a real personal issue. Then, the alt account started a thread about a totally made-up problem. The Michelle Alvarez8 thread got flagged as trolling, while the alt thread got showered with all that virtual praise, hugs, and other Care Bear nonsense that people on the US internet are just obsessed with.
The result just went and proved my theory about how inflexible people are—and the weird lenses they use to interpret everything they read.
The current little experiment just wrapped up. Turns out that lady—who's a former admin now—really is just as clueless and dim-witted as I thought she was. She actually sent me the confirmation herself via DM! 😍
The funniest part? I actually *want* to be proven wrong here. But it’s just not happening. No matter what. 😢

There’s also a huge distinction between someone discussing a topic—offering their own perspective or arguments—and someone fueled by pure spite, just waiting for an opening to jump down someone else's throat. It gets especially ridiculous when a small group starts private messaging, essentially teaming up to sharpen their knives on some third party. It reminds me of the petty office gossip you find in any corporate building or even just in a suburban neighborhood... it’s basically a microcosm of real life.
Then you have people who share their personal business because they’re going through a rough patch. Since we expect a certain level of privacy with our usernames, names and specific data aren't tossed around, but these discussions often help people clear their heads. I don't see why someone shouldn't air a burning problem, whether they need advice on a broken heart, some legal guidance, or just want to vent. Sometimes it's easier to do that behind a screen. But then there's always that one person who lives to feed off the drama. It’s that small-minded pettiness where someone thinks, "I hope your house burns down as long as mine is fine." It’s pathetic. It’s mostly ego at work; people getting a tiny, selfish thrill from feeling superior or smarter than someone else. Especially those people who don't have much else going on in their own little worlds to focus on.
Look, I’ve shared my own private struggles on forums before, too. And I haven't been met with insults. In fact, finding a bit of empathy during tough times helped me see things clearly, learn something new, or get some actually useful, practical advice. After all, none of us are lawyers, doctors, psychologists, plumbers, poets, philosophers, or single parents. We’re just humans with hearts and souls. At least, I'd like to think so... 🤷
Actually, you can't! I ran a little experiment earlier this year and proved that there’s no way to distinguish between people who are just trolling and those who are truly pouring their hearts out.

Sorry, but legal tips or stuff like "use Tide for your laundry" don't really count as the kind of deep intimacy involved in this whole messy topic—including the US subforum.🤷

Do me a favor and head over to Fashion—tell them how absolutely unhinged it is when a mom posts a photo kissing her five-year-old daughter on the mouth, only for everyone in the comments to act like it’s totally normal? Just let me know how that goes! 😁
By the way—maybe ask the admin how they manage to have clones while the rest of us just get stuck being ourselves? Seriously, how does that even work?
Look, we all know everyone’s just looking for attention here—it’s basically a given—but some things are private for a damn good reason. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather keep my intimate business and how I feel physically to myself than deal with sheer stupidity. Though, let's be honest, they usually go hand in hand.
Besides, if you've got the stomach to spill your deepest secrets all over a forum (or any public platform, really), then you should logically have the guts to handle—get this—differing opinions. It’s honestly ridiculous to think you can broadcast your most private moments to the world and expect nothing but digital hugs and pats on the back.

Instead of looking in the mirror, they choose to attack someone who simply shared their private life in confidence. It’s nothing short of a betrayal.
Look, I get where you're coming from, but didn't you miss the point about where this betrayal actually started? I mean, if you post your deepest, most personal feelings on a public platform, isn't it pretty obvious that you are the one betraying those feelings yourself? It's not really them pointing out the mistake—it's just reality hitting home.
