Well, they didn't catch me on the nose—it was the top of my head! I was seeing stars, and honestly, little cartoon birds circling my vision too. It was bloody, and I ended up clutching a bag of frozen veggies against it just to keep the swelling down...

You can actually use ice more often—like a few times a day for a couple of minutes at a time (just be careful not to get frostbite!). It’s probably best to wrap that gel pack in a towel and hold it there until it feels nice and cold, maybe even until you feel a little numbness. As for stretching, just stick to the basics: moving your feet up and down, side to side, in and out, and some ankle circles. You really can't mess this up. In fact, icing right before and after you stretch might actually help with the pain... Just aim for about two or three sessions a day, lasting a few minutes each. All those topical creams aren't going to replace actual ice, but they're great for quick relief when you can't get to an ice pack (like when you're stuck at the office). Regarding the brace—honestly, the less you wear it, the better. It helps support the joint, sure, but if you rely on it too much, those stabilizer muscles start getting lazy because they aren't doing any of the work. Maybe just wear it while you're working or until things settle down a bit, but definitely don't wear it all day long. You can pick one up at any local drugstore or medical supply shop. I wouldn't know which specific brand to suggest since they're all pretty much the same, but if you just explain what's going on, they'll point you toward something that works. Anyway, don't be shy about asking questions, it's no big deal 🙂
Broken hip / Femur fracture recovery in Health ·
I mean, they’re definitely giving him something for the pain, because honestly, it would be totally inhumane not to... It’s such a serious fracture that there's a real risk of complications, which is why they're keeping him under observation until the surgery...

You might want to try grabbing some Polar Ice gel or maybe a tub of Deep Relief cream; they have a really nice cooling effect that helps take the edge off the pain. Also, I noticed you're getting ready for a beach trip—that sounds amazing! Honestly, walking barefoot through the shallow surf is probably the best kind of rehab you can get...

I think about ten days of rest should be plenty, but I’m honestly surprised you haven't been sent straight to physical therapy yet—that’s usually what really kicks the recovery process into high gear. In the meantime, try applying ice a few times a day and work on some gentle range-of-motion exercises for the joint, but definitely try not to put too much weight on it until those pains start to dial back. Also, if you have a desk job, you’ll probably notice it acting up after sitting for eight hours... and if your work involves standing all day, you're definitely not ready to head back just yet.
Do doctors actually have a moral code? in Health ·
I honestly think most people are just flesh and blood, just like anyone else—no better or worse than the rest of us... The real issue seems to be this deep-seated frustration after years of intense schooling and getting paid peanuts. It makes some feel like they deserve more, so they start looking for shortcuts through those "under-the-table" payments.... But I don't think that's how the majority of people behave within the public sector, which is honestly a nightmare (it’s pretty inhumane toward the patients, the doctors, and the entire staff alike).
Private Urology Center - Kidney Stones in Health ·
Hey everyone, does anyone have any info on this? Please speak up... I really hope it doesn't come to this, but would we seriously have to head over to Mexico just to get private care? Surely it hasn't reached that point yet...

BTW, I feel like the healthcare system is completely broken. It’s honestly tragic that I have to go begging for a connection for something we’re already paying for through our insurance. I mean, I could probably pull some strings since I used to work at that hospital, but it feels so humiliating...
Private Urology Center - Kidney Stones in Health ·
Does anyone have recommendations for private urologists in the area? So far, I've come across Dr. Kaplan and the Urology Center. Honestly, I’m looking for a clinic that can handle kidney stone treatments directly so we don't have to deal with the long wait times and bureaucracy at the public hospitals... I did some digging on ESWL options and found that it's available privately at Salus in Miami or even over in Mexico, so is it really not an option privately here in the city? I'm also wondering if there are any private practices that perform minimally invasive procedures to remove stones—my latest scans show one stuck in my ureter...

Thanks so much!!!
Honestly, just get rid of the book. I remember back when I was studying for finals—my friend and I would read about what certain exams were like, and then we'd both start convinced we were actually experiencing those symptoms ourselves. It’s such a bad habit; you really shouldn't let stuff like that get in your head...
Dealing with water retention in Health ·
So, you mentioned having some bad experiences with doctors before. I totally get that. But here’s what I’d suggest: grab your pill pack and really dive into the fine print, especially the instructions on how to take them. Usually, these things are meant to be taken once a day at the exact same time—not just right before you're intimate. So, the timing of your actual relationship doesn't really matter in that sense. If you've only been taking them sporadically when you think you might need them, there's a real chance it's thrown your hormones out of whack. If any of this sounds confusing, please just pick up the phone and call your gynecologist. Honestly, I'd recommend sitting down with your doctor to go over all these issues; they might even suggest switching to a different brand, but definitely don't try to switch things up on your own...
Eye doctors and pricing? in Health ·
I finally found both lenses for my $60 😁
. Now I just have to figure out the frames. Since I only wear glasses once in a while anyway, I don't think I'll bother with plastic...
Eye doctors and pricing? in Health ·
I mean... it’s a total disaster. It isn't even worth my time to deal with $33 anymore.
Eye doctors and pricing? in Health ·
So, I popped into two different optical shops the other day just to get a quote on some new lenses... Honestly, it was a nightmare. Every single lens was running about $230-$97 (and those were just for my cylinder corrections). To top it off, one guy there actually tried to tell me that finding non-plastic lenses would be nearly impossible—and apparently, plastic is somehow the more expensive option!
Does anyone happen to know how much Medicare typically covers for lenses like these? Is it even worth the headache of dealing with them at all?

Not that it matters much right now, since I managed to lose my glasses in the first place...
Sweaty grass in Health ·
I always end up with a nasty rash if I walk through an un mown field in shorts. But hey, I’m allergic to pollen, so that pretty much explains why... Honestly, the blisters get even worse if my legs are sweaty. Any time I touch pollen with damp hands or feet, that's exactly how it ends up.
Clavicula in Health ·
You should definitely get a second opinion on this. Honestly, the whole thing sounds a bit sketchy to me, and I’m not feeling great about it. The last thing you want to deal with is pseudoarthrosis—that's when the bone fails to knit back together properly and ends up forming a "false joint." Not only is it painful, but it opens a massive can of worms for future issues. That little bump they mentioned? That’s the least of your worries...
Besides seeing a neurologist, you should grab a referral for a physiatrist or a rheumatologist too. You really need to get a full workup done just to rule out everything else that could be triggering these issues...
There’s a private dialysis center out in Key West, California. It’s honestly geared specifically toward tourists...
I keep losing my grip—any advice? in Health ·
Hey there... honestly, everyone needs to go to bed, you guys are really overdoing it here 🙂

By the way, glucosamine sulfate is NOT a corticosteroid—it’s just a dietary supplement with some questionable effects. Everyone deals with muscle soreness; it's hardly a medical diagnosis.

It’s not even that we’ve gone off-topic, it’s more like we’ve wandered miles away from it. I’d suggest the OP goes see a neurologist, just to rule out anything actually serious...
Hey there! A huge welcome from one of the old-timers here 🙂
How to get rid of cellulite? in Health ·
Cinnamon just ends up irritating your skin.

Personally, I prefer mixing together juniper, cedar, lemon eucalyptus, lemon, cypress, rosemary, and sage...
