wiredfalcon2, look, Franz Ferdinand is absolute perfection for me. It’s wild how much better that album gets the more I obsess over it. Also, like someone mentioned earlier, The Go! Team is phenomenal—you seriously need to give them a shot. They're just pure, chaotic fun. 🙂
Anyone catching a train out of Washington, D.C.? I’m looking for someone willing to show a girl the ropes—she’ll likely be flying solo at the last minute and has no clue where the George Washington crowd hangs out once they hit Vienna. 🙂
He’s neither funny nor wise. Honestly, "boring" is probably the best way to put it.
And I seriously don't get how some idiot gets granted divine powers only to turn his rival into a clown just so he can snag a job as an anchor on some local news station? The plot is just phenomenal.
So, it’s actually a decent watch. Even though it’s stuck in one spot and doesn't exactly have a massive plot, it keeps you hooked enough that you aren't staring at the clock or yawning your head off.
Now, there's a catch: nobody was checking the time because the whole thing is only 81 minutes long.🙂 I'm pretty sure even Men in Black runs longer than this.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
One of the more entertaining things I've watched lately. It doesn't drag, and honestly, it holds up. Of course, the usual crowd that loves to bash DiCaprio will tear it apart, but hey, that's what people do when their life's purpose is hating on outsiders. Hanks is good—nothing groundbreaking, but he pulls it off just fine. It could have been a bit heavier if they’d focused more on Hanks' family or leaned harder into Leo's situation, but even like this, it's a solid watch. My only gripe is the ending. Like a few of Spielberg's recent ones, it feels way too manufactured, like it could have wrapped up three different times before actually hitting the credits.
Bottom line: worth catching in a theater if you just want to switch your brain off. Don't go looking for some deep message here—movies actually *do* have messages sometimes, but not this one. This is like a cold lemonade on a hot summer day—you drink it, it's refreshing, and then you forget about it.
lonescout2 said:Is Contact that movie with Charlie Sheen where aliens want to colonize Earth by triggering global warming?
Or is it the one where this woman (can't remember her name) picks up a signal from space and turns out it's some speech Hitler sent into the cosmos, and she wants to make "first contact," but since she doesn't believe in God, that guy from Picket Fences jumps in, only to die in a terrorist attack and blah, blah, blah
Someone please refresh my memory...
My turn? Sure thing. 🙂 It's the second one, based on Sagan's book.
Anyway, I'd pick movies pretty similar to frozentiger6... honestly, shallow minds tend to think alike. 🙂
action - OFF thriller - Seven (though Psycho or Memento could work too) comedy - Monty Python or A Fish Called Wanda drama - tough call... maybe Fight Club fits here? If not, then let's go with Shawshank or Donnie Darko horror - definitely The Exorcist sci-fi - oh yeah... Blade Runner animation - Metropolis
Christian Sanchez44 said:khm. I'm actually getting ready to take the kids to the theater (not really my thing, this whole Eminem craze sweeping through the elementary schools, but whatever...) since they're insisting. So, I'm wondering if the movie is appropriate for an elementary schooler? Honestly, is there any explicit stuff, violence, swearing...
Swearing? Oh, definitely. There isn't a ton of violence (though there is some), but the language... honestly, it's like listening to a pack of angry construction workers losing their minds.
Ugh, Prodigy. So, AONO was supposed to drop around March, but since there hasn’t been a single announcement or even a hint of a release date, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. Honestly, we don't even know which track is going to be the lead—is it Trigger, Nuclear, No Souvenir, Vacation, AONO? Or maybe something else entirely? But hey, what can you do? Liam is a perfectionist.
Look, the movie is just okay. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s watchable, and honestly, the acting is decent, but it's nowhere near an Oscar, despite what some people were claiming. The plot is just plain silly and leaves you feeling kind of numb by the end... like they wanted to tell this underdog story but lost interest halfway through. Then they just wrap it up with that super predictable "zero to hero" trope you see in every single one of these movies.
If you're a huge fan, go ahead. Otherwise, it's no big deal if you skip it. You'd probably forget it by tomorrow anyway.
Last year, they started blasting music during breaks at my job mostly just that commercialized MTV garbage you know, the kind of stuff you can totally live without but since my buddy was the one playing it, we mostly just let it slide🙂
then one day, something went missing from the manager's office, and she officially banned all music (since the people playing it had to be in her office anyway)😢
So this guy said:By my standards, the movie is "unreadable," and you can tell by the fact that after dropping $250 million, they only pulled in $300 million.
300 250 - _____ $50 million profit? I have no idea how they even covered the actors' salaries.
Like this: I honestly thought Titanic was the king of expensive movies at $200 million, but damn, I guess I was wrong. I also figured Waterworld was the one before it at $180 million. (graniteangler10, I'm talking about single films here—the Lord of the Rings trilogy burned through maybe $300 million total, but that's three movies.)
How did they pay the cast? Honestly, I'm not sure, but I have a gut feeling their paychecks were baked right into that production budget.
Anyway, that last Lord of the Rings flick cleared over $300 million, so Peter Jackson actually did pretty well at the box office based on those numbers. I swear I saw similar numbers for him on some random clickbait site, but I think they mentioned $350 million spent to make $400 million... basically total BS.

It’s not just another remake. I can’t recall the others offhand, though there was one that just hit streaming here recently... honestly, my brain is a total blank on the title. Besides, Philip K. Dick wrote a mountain of stuff, so there's plenty of material to work with...
