even better, on their balcony.
I'm a smoker myself, but whenever I visit a non-smoker's place, I always make sure to ask,
if it's alright to light up. If they say no, then no, I totally respect that.
Honestly, if you don't want me to smoke, that's perfectly fine by me.
But man, getting angry at someone just for smoking by their window...
For me, it's really annoying when a neighbor smokes by their window and then tosses their cigarette butts right into my backyard.
You can't forbid anyone from doing anything, obviously. But the point isn't about what they're doing at THEIR window—it's about the fact that the smoke drifts straight into SOMEONE ELSE'S apartment.
And regarding the underlined part... alright, I might be risking getting my head bitten off by some smokers ("shh," btw 🙄)—but people, do you realize this actually ISN'T polite?
Because, honestly, the mere act of ASKING is already doing us a massive favor. 🙄 And then you "respect" the answer? In someone else's home? Oh, wow, thanks a million!
To non-smokers, it stinks. S-T-I-N-K-S. For some, it's nauseating. For others, it causes actual health issues. If it didn't bother them, they'd probably just smoke in their own places too. And then, oh thank you so much,
you ask. That’s usually what puts us in an awkward spot, because a lot of people feel too embarrassed to say "no" (especially after being "politely" asked) because they don't want to look like the bad guy. So they say yes. And then they're airing out their place until next Christmas.
I don't deal with "politeness"—I'm too much of a grouch for anyone to even bother asking anymore. If it doesn't work for you, don't come over. Simple as that.
