Oh, please... that's actually on Tratinski Street (formerly Beverly Hills 😁 )...
Sherry said:My advice? Just head over to those guys in Beverly Hills—grab some of their free literature, read it thoroughly, give it some real thought, and then you're all set.😁

Good grief, I had no idea "literature" even existed for this...
Apparently, I should just wander over to Beverly Hills (since it’s practically right in my backyard) and pick up those pamphlets.
Did you ever end up seeing Zelet or Robija?
Also, does anyone happen to know if Gandalf at the Fish pond is any good?
Because I've been sitting on this tattoo idea for ten years now and I just can't pull the trigger... 😁
And then there's the whole ordeal of deciding what to get (actually, I pretty much decided on that about a week ago—something just clicked), where to put it, how big it should be, this detail, that detail... I mean, it isn't exactly a coloring book page I can just scrub clean with a brush. 😉
Regarding those tattoos, I heard they do them over at Beauty Salon Bozic in a nice Suburban neighborhood. You should give them a call and ask about it.
They mentioned using some kind of natural pigment—it doesn't sink quite as deep into the skin as a permanent tattoo would... though I can't say for certain.

Besides, if you want the look of a tattoo without the lifelong commitment? These two options actually complement each other quite nicely 😁
If you aren't looking for something permanent, just grab a temporary decal and peel it off whenever you feel like it 😁

Betty Bennett10 said:No, just the mere notion that I—whether consciously or subconsciously—caused my own internal struggle created this overwhelming sense of guilt. And at the same time, I simply wasn't in a position to pursue psychotherapy because I didn't believe, and still don't believe, that psychological factors are the root cause of my "illness."

I don't mean to sound harsh, but this sounds a bit like a child refusing to admit they were wrong.
If you didn't believe in psychotherapy then, and you still don't... well, naturally, you aren't going to view it as a valid reason.
It’s just how your mind is wired, and no one is ever going to talk you out of it.
For instance, no one could convince me that I’ll be healed just by having faith in God or sitting in a church pew every Sunday...
The moment someone brings that up, I immediately put my guard up. Period.
But you aren't grasping the point—that you might be responsible for your own situation.
Look, nobody is actually pointing a finger at you; you aren't "to blame" for things happening in your life when you didn't know better or couldn't help it... so where is this guilt coming from?
That feeling of guilt is incredibly destructive—please, don't do that to yourself...

😢
Jesus, this is a textbook example of what it actually means to be a "soul killer."
Is there anything worse than people like that? Honestly, I know far too many of them...

It's just typical of the American healthcare system.
And we all act so incredibly self-righteous about it...👎

Betty Bennett10 said:I have to admit, I am not at all thrilled by these claims that physical illnesses are just the fallout from psychological issues or mental instability.

Physical illness doesn't necessarily have to be the result of some psychological issue or mental instability—not always, anyway...
For certain individuals, a specific psychological state is simply their baseline reality.
Take fear, for instance.
One person might label that feeling as a "mental problem" or something wrong in their head, whereas another person might see being afraid in a particular situation as perfectly normal—even if that exact same situation feels completely irrational to the first person.
It really just depends on your perspective...

placidjackal97 said:I wish you nothing but strength. You’re going to need it—anyone would be lying if they said otherwise.

As for me, I am an absolute extremist when it comes to medication. In the sense that I don't even touch aspirin for a headache.

It isn't that the pain isn't there; it's just that I'd rather take a hot bath, go to sleep, or get some fresh air—which is usually the culprit for me anyway, given the dry, warm air and sitting still too much at work—or just take a quick break.

When my husband and I first met, his family reminded me so much of your mother...

They actually had this dedicated cabinet in their house just for medicine 😲 and everyone thought it was perfectly normal to pop some Advil or something similar every single day if a headache cropped up.

So, basically, treating the symptom rather than the cause.

I tried to pass along some relaxation methods to him—alternative techniques and things like that.

He eventually started practicing autogenic training. It’s quite popular here in the States... originally developed by Germans.

I honestly can't remember the last time he took a pill—though, if you had asked him a few years back, he probably would have had a panic attack if we accidentally ran out of stock at home.

Phew, looking at how much stuff we have at home... we also have a dedicated medicine cabinet. Actually, looking back, it's rare to find a day in my life where I don't swallow at least one pill or take at least one puff of Albuterol. Very rare indeed.
And it really is quite sad... spending an entire lifetime being dependent on pills.
That's why I've developed such an aversion to medication, yet somehow, I always end up taking the path of least resistance and just swallowing them.
Instead of addressing the root cause—and goodness knows how many causes there are, I'll be fighting them for God knows how many years 🙄 )
Well then.
The older I get, the less I use them; I spend most of my time trying to convince my mother that I don't need a pill for every little thing.
But those heavy medications have already done their damage... my stomach has become incredibly sensitive. It's awful.
I can only eat certain things, or if I indulge in something I love, I pay the price afterward. 😠

placidjackal97 said:I appreciate the honesty.🙂

Honestly, it’s the bare minimum I can offer—just being upfront.
It’s simply how things are... and there are so many layers to it.
Just think about how our American mothers react whenever we feel even a slight ache: "Take this Advil," or "Grab that Tylenol," or "Try the other brand instead."
And if you actually get sick? It’s always, "Well, your doctor is seeing patients at this time or that time..."
It goes on like that for your whole entire life.
Quite often, I’ll turn down both the medication and the doctor's appointment because, frankly, they aren't even necessary most of the time—but living with someone like that for a lifetime... it leaves its mark on you somehow.
I can't exactly undergo a total personality transplant right now to rewire my consciousness and find "healing," because despite what she might think, I am no longer a child.
I do believe healing can happen through various paths, but you have to strike while the iron is hot.
From here on out, things are going to be much harder.
This is when the real confrontation with reality begins.

I’m not sure if you two have actually met, but frankly, it doesn’t even matter—everyone is entitled to their own perspective.
placidjackal97 found her way to healing through her own path, which is great. You’re following the method you believe works best for you, and that’s perfectly fine too.
And why does it matter? Because you both found what actually helped you.
Personally, I’ve always placed more faith in a pill than in sheer willpower—mostly because, let's face it, I don't exactly have much willpower to spare. So, what can I do?
I take a pill, and the headache goes away.
Sure, it could absolutely be a placebo effect, but honestly... I have no interest in overanalyzing that.
As for that list of illnesses and the psychological aspects involved—it’s all well-written and incredibly clear; it helps you understand exactly what went wrong and why things spiraled.
But knowing that hasn't shifted my mindset. It just made me aware that there is a psychological component to these conditions, but that's where it ends. It didn't "heal" me.
It’s not like I haven't tried everything—prayer, sheer force of will, medication, talking it out with family and friends... I really have.
And I’m still searching for answers, because I know I haven't exhausted every single possibility yet.
I’ll keep looking until I find the specific approach that resonates most with me.
What anyone else thinks is the absolute last thing on my mind—at the end of the day, it’s my life and my health on the line.
Besides, I spent way too much of my life worrying about everyone else, which is exactly why everything ended up such a mess in the first place.

Alright, go ahead and do your thing, placidjackal97—along with me and anyone else who actually feels like reading this stuff. I’ll start a fresh thread over on the Wellness sub-Reddit tomorrow or the day after to get the ball rolling...

As for all that mocking regarding self-medicating... look, you aren't exactly the first person to figure that out. Though, I'll give you this much: it certainly isn't a common occurrence.
The soul of Fado in Music ·
The very first time I heard that music—back when I had absolutely no clue it was Fado—I just started sobbing. It was one of those moments where you can't even wrap your head around why you're breaking down over some song playing on the radio, let alone questioning what on earth is happening to you in that moment... it was surreal.

I eventually went down a massive rabbit hole trying to figure out what that feeling was, and ever since then, I’ve been completely obsessed with the genre.
Honestly, I have such a deep love for everything about the culture, the vibes, and the music... it's basically my ultimate dream.

placidjackal97 said:Personally, I view physical illness as nothing more than a distress signal from the psyche—a final warning when the mind simply can't carry the weight anymore.

Speaking of the mind triggering physical ailments, there’s actually a book by Louise Hay (think Eminem 😂 style depth) that catalogs just about every condition out there—everything from a simple toothache to serious tumors.
It’s an incredibly insightful chart.
The first column lists the ailment, the second breaks down the psychological root—essentially who the person is and why they ended up there—and the third provides specific affirmations or mantras meant to reshape that person's lifestyle and mindset to facilitate healing.
If anyone is interested, I could post the details here on Reddit (or perhaps it would be better to start a dedicated thread)...
It’s honestly fascinating... when I looked up my own condition and saw the listed causes, everything suddenly clicked...
It’s quite sobering, really... realizing how much we can sabotage ourselves through our own mental states. But then again, it’s truly beautiful to hear stories of people overcoming life-threatening illnesses simply through their own mental fortitude and willpower... 🙂

Ah, so I've officially joined the allergy club too... though my symptoms are significantly milder these days.
I went through five years of allergy shots—immunotherapy—so what I deal with now is nothing compared to the absolute nightmare I faced back in my school days...
swiftscout8 said:What you’re actually looking for is a psychologist, not a psychiatrist.

Psychologists focus on talk therapy—the conversational side of things—whereas psychiatrists are the ones who handle the formal diagnoses.
But I really don't want to get too deep into this debate... I simply don't have enough facts on hand to be conclusive.
When it comes to private practitioners, there are just far too many out there for anyone to point at one specific person and say, "there, that's your guy."
You might want to look into outpatient clinics; I actually know of one over on Broadway that has a psychiatry department.
As far as I know, rates are pretty much standardized among all private psychiatrists, sitting at about $67/hour.

I honestly can't say exactly what my expectations were going into this one—I just remember everyone telling me how incredible it was, so I went in with pretty high hopes. In the end, though... the whole thing felt somewhat hollow to me. It just didn't land. I couldn't find any real sympathy or empathy for the characters, no matter how hard I tried...
And that ending—honestly, it feels like the movie just refuses to actually wrap things up...😁
I’ll be sitting there watching a scene, thinking to myself—yeah, that’s it, that’s the moment. But then, no, it isn't... there’s more. Then, ah, okay, so that's how it ends. No, wait, it’s not even over yet... and I’ll just stay stuck like that for another thirty minutes or an hour...

I don't know, maybe I just wasn't in the mood...

There are two fundamental mistakes...

Expectations from a film... Honestly, having expectations usually just leads to disappointment—though, let’s be real, that applies to life in general, not just the movies—so... 😁

Waiting for the end... when will it finally happen, really... *glances at watch*...
🙂 😁

Let’s be honest—you really need to be in a specific state of mind for a film like this to actually land... It isn't exactly easy viewing.

I actually went to see it in the theater. And honestly, the fact that I went out and bought the Blu-ray immediately afterward speaks volumes—it’s one of those films I just had to own...

I really don't have the energy to dive into a deep philosophical breakdown of the film right now.
But I can see you're fully leaning into that whole 😛
