To be honest, freshman orientation is just pure nonsense
If you think that’s bad, then I don't know what could possibly be considered good around here or in our neighboring states

So, I was on Boeing for two years straight without ever skipping a beat. I stayed on top of my liver function tests, and everything looked totally fine. But then, out of nowhere, I started dealing with these intense cramps and brutal PMS that made me feel like I was losing my mind. I finally decided it was time to switch things up and take a break. My doctor prescribed Yasmin for me—once my liver tests cleared (though my bilirubin was just a tiny bit elevated)—and told me to start once my period arrived. WELL, IT’S NOT COMING! It’s already 17 days late! Before I stopped, my cycle was super regular, even if it was painful. And no, it’s definitely not pregnancy; I’ve already taken two tests and they were both negative. Should I just wait a little longer? I read somewhere that it can take some time for everything to reset and for your ovaries to get back into a rhythm—maybe two or three months? Please tell me it'll be okay! I'm terrified of my hormones going haywire after being so perfectly balanced for so long!
Art appraisals/valuations? in Classifieds ·
Hey everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on getting art appraised... does anyone know how the process works? Like, who can I actually take these to for a valuation, and what kind of fees am I looking at?

thanks a bunch!

How to get started with agtech and farming investments? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
I feel like a ton of people caught that segment on that farming show where this guy claimed he planted about 1,000 walnut saplings, basically saying he’ll be coming back in ten years with a chainsaw to harvest a million bucks worth of nuts.🙂))
I mean, I couldn't help but watch it too. Honestly, by the time a decade passes, there might actually be more walnuts than grass out there.🙂
I actually own about two acres of land up in the Ozarks. People on the forums are telling me it’s probably not the perfect spot for walnuts because they’ll grow slower, plus the soil isn't quite as rich as what you'd find in the Midwest. But hey, I'm going to give it a shot anyway—if it works, it works...
OB/GYN Discussion Thread in Women's Health ·
Here’s my recommendation for a public OB/GYN:
Dr. Sandra Kovacevic, her clinic is right near the train station..
I’ve also had a hell of a time trying to pick a gynecologist, whether private or public—they all seem equally terrible. While this one isn't perfect, here’s why I think she stands out from the rest:
1. She’s actually friendly, sweet, and has a warm personality.
2. The nurse is an absolute legend.
3. She’ll actually run tests for every possible bacteria, HPV, and so on. Most other doctors don't bother with that and just throw antibiotics at you regardless of what's actually going on.

...but the downsides are:
1. The appointment lasts maybe 10 minutes or less (including the "consultation"). Honestly, I think that's just how it is with most public clinics, at least in major cities like Chicago (back in my hometown, they actually gave you some time).
2. They don't have an ultrasound on-site!

Anyway, I’ve been through plenty of public and private doctors in the city and I've never been truly satisfied!
If you want to sign up with her, you'll need to call after the New Year since she’s fully booked. The number is 378-2828! (She’s already full for November anyway).

🙂

P.S. Just stay away from Dr. Konrad Nitezic. The guy can be incredibly rude—or "brutally honest," if you want to put it that way—when you ask him any specific questions!

But hey, you always have to keep in mind that all gynecologists are pretty bad, heheeeeeee... damn...
Hey, they say you learn from your mistakes, but sometimes those lessons hit way too 😉

I don't know how else to put this—even though I’ve dealt with similar situations over the years (some ended well, others... not so much), I finally had a massive realization:

As a woman, you basically have to be 200 times more careful than him. You have to be the one to say "no" if there isn't reliable contraception involved, regardless of whether you're in a committed relationship or just hooking up, and regardless of how much you actually want to do it..
It’s a harsh reality. For one fleeting moment of pleasure—kind of like a cheap gift card experience—we women end up stuck with days of anxiety and endless questioning, even when we're being careful with birth control.

Let me give you a personal example..
I ended up pregnant despite using a condom. Believe it or not.
The reason? We didn't keep it stored in a cool, dry place (so the material degraded!). Seriously... you have to watch every single little detail!
It's the same thing with the pill; so many women end up pregnant just because they missed their window by a few hours... it happens all the time...
Don't take my word for it, but when you find yourself in that tiny 0.3% margin, you realize you truly have to look out for yourself!!! Getting pregnant is terrifyingly easy if his swimmers are active..

Honestly, the sheer possibility of it all and how easily it can happen just totally broke me mentally 😉

General Chat & Info Board in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Hey everyone 🙂

So, I’m super stoked about martial arts—and I mean actual skills. To me, there’s a massive difference between just playing a sport and learning a real skill, and honestly, the competitive sports aspect doesn't interest me at all. That's why I stopped training Nanbudo back when I was a kid.
I'm 19, and I recently started Wing Chun on Saturdays. (By the way, Dragomir Horvat isn't running it anymore; it's two younger guys now who are really solid, hardworking, and super approachable...)
Since this is basically a student club and all that, we have way too many people for such a small space. Plus, we only train twice a week, so I'm looking to pick up something else as well.
I'm drawn to styles similar to Kung Fu, so I'm stuck between Shorinji Kempo and Hapkido. (Feel free to set me straight if I'm wrong about how much they resemble Kung Fu or if I misspelled anything!)
I'm asking you guys—anyone with experience in these styles—to give me a quick rundown of what they're like. Also, if you have any club recommendations, let me know.
For Kempo, I've been checking out these links:
http://www.white-lotus-martial-arts.com/ (but their schedule doesn't work for me since it clashes with my Wing Chun days)
http://www.shaolin-usa.com/
http://www.zenyoga.com/kempo/kempotraining.html
http://www.anan-do.com/images/_kempo.htm
As for Hapkido, I found:
http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/hapkido/First.htm
http://www.dangun-academy.com/pages/hapkido-techniques.htm

Also, if anyone has suggestions for other disciplines, I'm all ears.
Just so you know, I'm ready to put in the hard work and train consistently. Physical conditioning isn't an issue for me at all.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice! 🙏 (I'll buy a beer for the most helpful response 🙂 🙂)
Fear of my own thoughts in Psychology ·
I honestly think you might just be struggling with some deep-seated insecurities. It sounds like you’re terrified of being judged if you don't toe the line and agree with the crowd, but that’s a total trap. Honestly? You should stop giving a damn about what everyone else thinks and just embrace who you actually are. Aim to be unique; lean into what makes you different. If people can't handle that, then they’re just shallow idiots who lack any real backbone. But if they do accept you, then you’ve found your tribe. Either way, you have to face that fear head-on, go for it, and just live your life. I don't see any other way to do it.
Saddam Hussein: Hanging or firing squad? in Philosophy ·
oceanic said:

The sentence is death by hanging. Usually, that’s seen as a dishonorable way to go—reserved specifically for the most vile criminals.
Some people (especially military types) feel that being executed by firing squad is a much more honorable end.

Let's say Saddam Hussein has been proven guilty of countless atrocities and deserves the harshest punishment possible.

My question is this:

What does the American people in Iraq actually gain from hanging Saddam Hussein?

Or, what is truly in the best interest of the populace and that broken nation regarding the fate of their former leader?

Nothing. His execution doesn't solve anything. It won't bring any tangible benefit to the Iraqi people to see him hang. The Iraqi people didn't even get a say in their own destiny or the overthrow of their president; that was all handled through American military intervention and the occupation of the country, along with everything else we know followed.

There are massive interests at play here, and those interests have a long history. Anyone who knows the situation in that region even slightly well understands that everything happening in Iraq and around it isn't about democracy or the freedom of the Iraqi people liberated from the terror of the Saddam Hussein regime. It’s simply about pure self-interest—interests for which the price is once again paid by ordinary citizens with their lives.

In these circumstances—what does the Iraqi people get if Saddam Hussein is hanged?

From my perspective, they get nothing except perhaps some closure for those who suffered under his regime, which is symbolically satisfied by his demise. But his execution alone doesn't resolve the underlying issues that could just as easily be settled by sentencing him to life in prison. Saddam Hussein essentially lives on as an ideology, regardless of how he dies, and it will be the Iraqi people who eventually have to grapple with that ideology within themselves over the long haul.

Then again, isn't that a field of fruit that every nation must tend to on its own soil over time? They have to prepare it, grow it, and nurture it toward the direction they want, because only they know their own soil and what can thrive there. In that sense, I'm against any outside meddling disguised as "good intentions," which carry about as much weight as George W. Bush's version of democracy.

The only kind of help that would actually be welcome is genuine assistance—a hand that truly wants to help that struggling nation, which had already been suffering under American "benevolence" via years of sanctions long before the final actions were taken to "liberate" them. Any other hand is just holding a sword, and that sword of justice carries about as much weight as the price of crude oil weighed against human lives.

And I don't believe, generally speaking, that any conflict can be resolved without goodwill. Goodwill is the primary requirement if you want to talk about the success or failure of any action at all.
