Jose Brown57 said:And she calls herself a nurse... seriously? I mean, there's really nothing to it—though, given how much salt is being pumped in, she’s probably just trying to balance out all that potassium loss.
I have to wonder where this nurse went to school if she thinks replacing potassium with table salt is a good idea.
Jose Brown57 said:Alright, thanks! I’d also suggest just grabbing some basic bouillon—it's loaded with salt and you really need those fluids back in your system. Oh, and I totally blanked on mentioning the bananas.
I have no idea who suggested instant soup packets, but handing someone industrial concentrate when they’re already dealing with nausea and vomiting doesn't strike me as a brilliant move.
I’ve got a question regarding the PDF health guide, but since you're here... honestly, skip the feta or any heavy cheese when you're dealing with those first few days of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The golden rule is bland foods that won't trigger gas or more runs—think boiled potatoes, rice, cooked carrots, or some plain toast. Avoid anything fatty or dairy-heavy. You can have a bit of boiled lean meat if needed. If the diarrhea gets pretty bad, make sure to replenish your salt by sipping on fat-free broth. Every time you hit the restroom, you need to replace those fluids with broth or peppermint tea. It’s also a good idea to grab a banana or some boiled potato to get your potassium back up. If you're craving dairy, sticking to plain, unsweetened yogurt or kefir is fine because of the probiotics.

Please comfort me and tell me Dramamine is going to work.
Don't be dramatic—just go to the doctor. You probably need antibiotics and a tetanus shot (depending on when you last had one).

Take a look at this. Unfortunately, there isn't an American version, but the symptoms seem to match—losing your sense of taste, headaches, facial numbness, and things like that. It’s especially likely if you’ve been spending time outdoors and recently dealt with some ticks.
Just to be safe, how does your forehead feel? Any stiffness there?
quiettinker5 said:Anxiety is everywhere these days, which I guess means it’s been studied to death. There are incredibly effective ways to handle it, but honestly? I wouldn't bank on herbal remedies—that stuff you mentioned. Think about it: if anxiety kicks your sympathetic nervous system into overdrive, why not look into what actually triggers the parasympathetic side? You know, things like specific foods, drinks, or supplements that help relax your muscles and slow your heart rate down. But let’s be real—that’s just a temporary band-aid. Since you mentioned you haven't made it to a doctor yet due to certain circumstances, I really hope you make that appointment soon to get this sorted out. My advice? Ask for psychotherapy rather than anxiolytics. Meds come with a laundry list of side effects, whereas actual therapy gives you real-world coping strategies that stick with you for life.
I'm rooting for you, and I truly hope you make the smart choice for both your mind and your body. You deserve top-tier care, so please, give it to yourself 🙂
Really? Super effective?
There are good options, sure, but "super effective" is a stretch. If they were that great, people wouldn't be flooding this forum or any other specialized boards across the US.
Emily Patel70 said:I can't quite figure out which side you're actually taking in all of this.
He said he was looking for a photo, not that she could send one. "Asking for a picture" means he's the one requesting it. Since the original poster mentioned in her first post that advice is welcome via DM, it's easy to get the wires crossed.
If it’s that easy to get defensive, why is admitting a mistake such a massive struggle? ☕
Emily Patel70 said:You have zero connection to this, and I honestly can't figure out why you're even weighing in on this topic.
Sorry, but what exactly are you getting at here?
I haven't criticized anyone's moderation, whether it was in the wrong place or handled poorly. Choosing not to jump into every single thread is my call, and I don't feel like I owe anyone an explanation for how or when I decide to chime in. It’s my right to just lurk and only react when I feel like it. As long as I’m being civil, staying on topic, and avoiding insults, I shouldn't have to introduce myself or provide a backstory just so you can follow along.
boldwalker12 said:You think I'm going to apologize on command? steelskipper132 claimed she was doing fine just because he asked for a photo. If he was lying, then I am too; it definitely wasn't intentional, and that’s all I have to say about it.
.
You don't have to apologize on command, but it would be nice if you owned up to your mistake on that thread, especially since you went after the mods right after. The reality is, the woman wasn't offering photos, and steelskipper132 didn't say she was. He just said she seemed fine, and since her first post made it sound like she was putting herself out there, he added a little eye-roll and suggested she could send a photo to prove how "fine" she actually is.
It isn't easy to keep track of every single post, and not everything here is riveting reading, but after the way you handled things as a mod, a simple apology to the woman would be the decent thing to do. It won't bring world peace or end global hunger, but it might help your credibility when it comes to being objective.
I've been following this thread, and even though I have nothing to do with the appeal above, it’s pretty obvious you totally misread Ms. X and wrongly accused her of sliding into DMs with those photos. Honestly, I think you owe her an apology ☕
Michelle Sullivan87 said:Does anyone have any insight on what this might be? I’m definitely planning to see my doctor, but I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with something similar. What kind of tests should I expect?
What's your CBC looking like? (Since you suspect your oxygen levels might be off)
Go get checked out, but I honestly doubt there's anything physically wrong with you. First off, if they only gave you a sedative at the ER after that episode, they wouldn't have done that if your heart was actually failing—they would've treated you differently. Plus, you felt better once that pill kicked in; if you had an underlying organic issue, a little Xanax wouldn't just make it vanish. You're dealing with panic attacks ☕
boldlynx6 said:Hands down, my favorite show ever! 😁
I’ve got a specific question about season 3, episode 5: why does Fleischman find it funny at the end when he hears that the two guys who found him unconscious are from Topeka, Kansas? Does anyone know?
Because the whole episode is actually just a dream while he's unconscious—kind of like the search for the Wizard of Oz (where Dorothy loses consciousness in Kansas during a tornado and her only goal is getting back home).
Brian Thompson2 said:So, I’m looking for some advice here... I was walking through a coffee shop the other day—just minding my own business—when this little Pekingese sitting at a table with its owner and a few friends decides to nip at my sweatshirt. At first, I didn't even realize what happened; I just thought maybe I brushed against something because I didn't see any actual holes in my clothes. But then I went to the restroom and noticed this little surface mark, maybe about 4 mm long. It looks mostly like a scratch, though one tiny part might be slightly deeper. Honestly, I didn't say anything to the owner afterward—didn't ask if the dog was up to date on shots or anything... I just kind of froze up in the moment and didn't know how to react.
Anyway, after my family kept nudging me about it, I called my doctor. They told me there’s really no reason to freak out, but to just keep an eye on it—watch for itching, swelling, or any redness. It’s been three days now, and none of that has happened.
But, you know, some people are telling me I should probably head into the clinic and ask about a tetanus shot. I really don't want to be "that guy" who overreacts and rushes to the doctor for nothing, but still...?
If I remember correctly, the last time I got vaccinated was probably over ten years ago back when I was in college.
What do you guys think? Should I go get the shot or just let it be?
Getting a tetanus shot after a bite is pretty standard practice. There's no need to worry about rabies since it was just a house pet that stays up to date on its shots. Since it’s been more than three days since it happened, a tetanus shot might not even be worth the trip—if I recall right, you usually need to get it within 48 hours.
I’m not looking to complain—honestly, I don't have much to complain about since I usually just browse the expat section every once in a while... but today I saw a post that actually made me want to say a few words.
First off, can we please loosen up the moderation on the expat boards? It feels like the expat section is the only place where you aren't allowed even a tiny bit of casual chat. As soon as a conversation gets even slightly interesting, someone jumps in with a warning to get back to the topic. At the same time, Scott, take this as a friendly heads-up: you don't have any trouble chatting about food in the culinary threads where I see you posting. Personally, I don't mind; feel free to chat away, but the double standard is a bit much for me. Why is side-chatting in the food section totally fine, even when it barely touches the topic? For us expats, who are scattered all over the US by definition, we don't really have a space to talk—to vent about the tax hikes they slapped on us, or ask how things are going in other states, or mention spending all day in an ER and asking if others have had similar experiences, or why Australians can only chat with Australians and Italians with Italians, etc. Why do we have to stick so strictly and blindly to a specific topic without the right to start a thread to continue a conversation? It’s like people think we only know how to talk about politics and old historical grudges. Sure, we used to bicker about those things, but people bicker on other boards too, even on non-political, benign topics, and they don't get treated like a police state the way we do living outside the States.
I also want to appeal to the admins to lift Will's ban from the expat board. I saw his post before it was deleted, and I really don't want to read anyone saying a man is "dying without the diaspora and writing on the expat boards." Let me mention the food thread again, which also has its own regular who spams topics and types even when he has nothing to say, yet he's tolerated because he's older, lonely, and probably out of touch. I know Will is temperamental; sometimes he doesn't know how to control himself because he types before he thinks when he's called out, and he can be unpleasant. But he also gathered info for everyone looking for data on moving to Australia. He always came back to the expat board, whether he was being insulted, whether he was insulting others, or when he decided to leave... he always came back because the forum is his outlet, and it’s certainly more necessary for him than it is for most of us who packed up and moved...
Even in moments when Will didn't hold back his words against me, I never wished a ban on him, let alone a permanent one. He doesn't bother me; he never did. Sure, he occasionally typed like he was vaccinated against humor, and his crusade for "the truth" was sometimes bordering on absurd, but then again, there are enough handles on this forum that they’ll keep typing regardless of their bans.
Try to imagine life far from the country you emigrated from—balancing the books, weighing the pros and cons, dealing with illness, and finding a little distraction and joy in typing on a forum. Are you truly 100% sure the expat board became a better or more pleasant place just because Will isn't here? Do you really not mind reading that a 70-year-old man is dying without his hobby—typing on the expat boards?
Personally, I feel for him and I get it. We are generations apart and geographically distant, but if my father were still alive, he probably wouldn't act much differently from him, or from any of those old regulars in the food threads who simply think they're right because of their age and their lack of experience with new technology.
I remember someone once wrote that you shouldn't advocate for Will, and I accept the possibility of being banned myself... at the end of the day, this forum doesn't mean as much to me as it does to him. And honestly, is it worth being a member of a forum that treats its members living outside the US so rigidly, when all they want is to exchange a few words with people in the same boat, just on a different coast?
Thanks! ☕
Grace Diaz76 said:If we’re following Google’s logic, we might as well just shut down this diaspora forum—you can find everything you need on a search engine anyway.
Wasn't this diaspora forum originally meant for those of us living abroad to actually talk about our lives overseas and what's happening back home? I didn't move to the States just to act as an information desk for people looking to emigrate, and I don't do that now either. I just miss having actual conversations and swapping perspectives with people whose daily reality looks different from mine.
The goal was to clear out the political extremists on both sides and leave room for those of us who just wanted to "talk." Instead, it feels like we're being told we aren't smart enough to even show up... you shouldn't have said that ☕

Honestly, I think you just started this thread to troll. Between the username and having Gruden in your signature, it’s pretty obvious. It feels like a waste of time to debate the opinion of a psychiatrist who clearly hasn't kept up with modern standards.☕
silversailor said:Sorry if I went too far with the "that time of the month" comment; I know it's a sensitive topic.
But personally, I don't think there's any excuse for acting frustrated or being dramatic over nothing.
Yeah, you definitely crossed a line. When you run out of actual points to make, you reach for the worst possible sexist cliché. "That time of the month" isn't some taboo subject; women have periods, and it’s basic biology taught in middle school. The real issue is when older guys—who aren't necessarily more mature—try to dismiss a woman's argument by claiming she's just being emotional or hormonal.
That "sorry if I went too far" line doesn't actually sound like an apology. Not only did you lean into the whole "monthly cycle" trope, but now you're labeling it a "sensitive topic." Sensitive for whom? ☕
silversailor said:Admin, please step in.
Nobody needs to deal with this much drama and frustration (or maybe just one of those days), not even me.
Admin, seriously, get over here...
...I have no clue who this quoted mod is or how they actually handle things, but if their go-to move is making comments about "that time of the month," they shouldn't be moderating anything. If guys were asking the questions instead of women, I doubt he’d be telling them they’re just being moody because of some morning habit, making them look ridiculous. ☕
Hey there 😍
A friend of mine has a wedding to hit up in August. Since she just had a baby and life is a bit chaotic right now, she basically gave me homework: find her something nice she can order online to wear.
Sam Martin said:bella... thanks, I'll take a look... I was also thinking about checking out some stores at Target... I've managed to find a few decent tops and skirts there before...
kris79... so, something I could actually wear to work every day, maybe, or if we're going out to dinner or attending a wedding...
I don't want to just wear it once for my wedding and then shove it in the back of my closet forever...
Something along these lines, I guess:

God, it’s so frustrating seeing all these photos of gorgeous clothes made for curvy women when you can't even find anything like it in this damn country... 🙂
Why not just order it online? For example. Here. I don't have enough context to give you a proper response. It looks like you were cut off mid-sentence. What were you going to say about the clothing? $167I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that. Could you clarify what you meant? Here we go. They aren't overpriced, and honestly, they're also... Here.
